    Katskan - Synthetic Application

    Synthetic Whitelist Application
    Personal InformationByond ID?
    Katskan

    Marine Name
    Fenn Nyx

    Other Whitelist Applications
    N/A

Character InformationName of the Synth Character you wish to play
    Daniel

What is your Synth’s quirk and personality?
Daniel was originally activated and performed as part of a synthetic emergency response unit for a wealthy designer colony. Unfortunately, he developed a personality quirk resulting very similar speech and attitude to human burn-out. He remains professional especially in emergencies but will sometimes come across as disdainful or harsh in a "tough love" sort of way. He will never outright insult anyone, but may make a comment such as "You really should be more careful, the more injuries you sustain the more work there is for me", or "Your training should have covered this, here let me show you"

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?
I think the RP aspect is cool, it's a character I enjoy and the robotic nature makes it a lot more believable I think. Also I feel like I'm capped by the human roles on the ship to an extent, there's a mechanical limit on how much you can do with things like a doctor with an engineering pamphlet, or purely specializing in something. I think it'd be fun to both have that multi-function role as well as give some RP experiences to players that differ from most synthetic personalities (at least that I've encountered)

    Synthetic Character Story
ExperienceHow familiar are you with Engineering?
Pretty solid on engineering roles. I've also paid a lot of attention to FOB construction for what works and doesn't, especially with personnel flow. Also am pretty good at fixing APCs and overall establishing power both on the ship and on the ground.

How familiar are you with Command?
Very proficient operating overwatch and OBs, I've got a handle on the departments as well to tell when they're struggling. Not so great at SL work but I can work it in a pinch if I get placed as aSL.

How familiar are you with Medical?
100% confident in my ability to handle almost anything. Even monkey cube consumption. Doctor is my main role I play, and likely will be where anyone who recognizes my marine name will know me from. I've also gotten pretty good at triaging, so nobody is getting caught in an LZ siege mid-surgery, and I've make and used kits with improvised tools to be familiar with their substitutes.

How familiar are you with Requisitions?
It's pretty automatic for me, I've got a rhythm that even the initial hell rush isn't that bad. Also pretty good at running communications to anticipate and order supplies for each drop.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.
Combat is a tool for performing another mission, as I see it. The mission might be securing a marine who's been ambushed in backline, I can use melee weapons to fight off an opponent until they either are unconscious or flee, then assist the marine. My objective is not to pursue or finish off the assailant, it's simply to secure the marine against further harm then assist them.

ConfirmationsAre you familiar with the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines?
    Yes

Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?
    Yes

Do you understand that you cannot advertise your application on any platform for votes. Do you also understand you may not edit this application 1 hour after it has been posted?
    Yes

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason? Do you have any active jobbans?
    No

Are you currently banned from our Discord, and if so, why?
    No

Other InformationDo you have anything else you would like to include about your application?
I wanted to thank the folk who helped me understand the quirk and personality, especially Staffer, Jakk and Optimisticdude, and Zane for his help with proofing my story. I also got some help from Ivan in lore as to detailing my back story. Thanks again for taking the time to read through everything.

I can vouch for this players medical expertise and competency, a very good field doctor to have around.

Can you get us some vouches for your ability in engineering and req roles? I've only seen you as a doctor and while I know that you play those very well now I've never seen you as a CT or a squad engi for example.
Literally who is this dude? Who does he play??

Can you write a dialogue of a marine insulting Daniel for being a synthetic? How would that conversation go? He seems unnecessarily aggressive, and my biggest concern (besides your lack of vouches) is that you would get into arguments or insult marines, which is against programming.

Also we already have a synth named Dan. Does this change your desire for the name Daniel at all?

Apologies, I didn't think to ctrl+f Dan, only looked for Daniel/Danny. Samuel (Sam) appear to be free, so that would work as a switch.

It's somewhat difficult to explain the attitude/perspective is tempered by program/professionalism, if it helps at all his design is very much similar to my real self, I work on an emergent response ambulance and in the same way the adherence to professional standards is there even if a situation is heated or frankly stupid. As an example, if a marine were to escalate to an argument or be antagonistic the intent is to assist, so as long as nothing is violent (in which case escape is preferred, or disarming and then escaping) then I'd offer assistance and then disengage if continual provocation occurred. Think of it as the concept of informed consent, which would be congruous with the unit's original role wherein he will help as much as able, but not sugar coat things and if assistance is refused (vehemently or argumentatively included), he will disengage rather than persist in engaging someone who does not want assistance.

    Example 1:
Marine: Hey synth why are you so creepy and weird
Samuel: You have the right to think of me that way

    Example 2:
Samuel: There seems to be a problem here, may I assist in optimizing your efforts?
Marine: Nah I got this, you can buzz off
Samuel: I'll be here if you need me.
(Will stay nearby if a true problem is observed, assuming one is then legitimate advice may be offered, such as "be careful with your dosing" or "perhaps moving these barricades would offer superior fields of fire)

    Example 3:
Marine: Hey they said I have lung damage can you help me or am I dying?
Samuel: That is incorrect, your heart has been damaged. Right now you're dying but I can fix it, just give me a few moments.
    Marine: Oh thanks
Samuel: Do try to avoid repeat injuries, I have other tasks to assist with
Marine: Are we not important to you?
Samuel: You are my top priority, thus my desire for you to avoid repeat injury. Hold still, moving makes this harder.

During prep or dropship transit, something like, "be careful of friendly fire, I'd like to minimize the number of friendly slugs I pull out of marines", or "remember to announce explosive use according to SOP, it's hard to piece your friends together after they get blown up". I'm not sure how exactly to better explain it, other than to say it's quite literally the same restrictions on not being antagonistic or aggressive that you'd expect from a real-world medic. Part of what I wanted to do was tread an area I think people avoid because of the skepticism on how to do it right, and I think my own experience is perhaps uniquely suited to doing so.

This is nice dialogue, but I believe Jakkkk is specifically looking for a marine insulting Dan/Sam directly, and seeing how they would react to that. If your synthetic speaks in a harsher, but not insulting way, how would you respond to someone saying something derogatory to you based on you being a synthetic? A dialogue could be a back and forth conversation between your synthetic, and the marine for about 5-6 sentences, or a page if you really want. However, your dialogue here isn't bad, it's just not what is being looked for, at least how I see it.

I agree with Fort here. While you elaborated on people telling you to "go away" and "you're weird", reality in CM isn't often so tame. What Jakkkk is asking for, I believe, is something more vulgar and direct.

How would your synth react if a Marine told them to "go fuck yourself, tin can" or "watch your step or you might eat a face full of buck, toaster"?

Ah I gotcha. As stated I'd either be tending towards simply disengaging, "Scene safety requirements dictate staging until hostiles are pacified" and then running off, and using MPs or battlefield confusion as a shield if necessary would probably be my favorite. Others might include-
"That sounds like a bad idea. Has there been a malfunction in your cryo wake program?"
"Maybe this isn't the safest of work environments. I'll have to make a note with the SEA."
"Damaging the unit's esprit de corps will negatively impact our mission."
"Friendly fire incidents may indicate the need for additional combat drills."

    Marine: "Fuck you toaster"
Samuel: "No, thank you. Also, use my name if you please, or my designation as unit synthetic or synth"
Marine: "I hear you bleed, that true? Maybe we should test it"
Samuel: "Repairs would be difficult, so we shouldn't. I can give you my word it's true."
Marine: "Maybe you're lying, fuckface. Maybe I need to ventilate your skull and see for sure?"
Samuel: "Please refrain from endangering the scene. I need to stay active to assist with future emergencies. Detaining me will require intervention, let me leave."
Marine: "Or what, you'll attack me?"
Samuel: "No, but I cannot make promises for MPs, or your friends' survival should they need my help while I'm detained."

I'm wicked sorry but Samuel is the name of a major synth from the game Alien: Isolation. It's like naming your synth Bishop.

Any other names you can think of?
