Basic Questions & StoryWhat do you think is the job of a Commander?
First of all i want to warn anyone who will read this application. I'm NOT English native speaker and some parts of this application was translated with Google help.
So, it can contain some grammar or lexical mistakes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    So lets start:

CO is the person that has a higher position in Almayer's chain of command, so that means he is responsible for operation progress and also for anything that happens on the shipside during operation. It means that he is personally responsible for that things.

CO is the face of the USCM forces and an example to follow for marines, so his manners and actions should be at a high standard.

CO sets the course for the entire marines round gameplay. One of CO’s important activities is to create some unique gameplay experience by involving marines in some interesting battle strategies or trying to create some memorable moments since he has the widest possibilities to do that.

Why do you want to be a Commanding Officer?
Because i want to try this role. I like challenge in games and CM COing giving a many various situations that will challenge you.

Provide a short story of your Commanding Officer.
I will try to write dossier for my character.

    Commander Chuck Bronson's dossier.

    Full Name: Chuck Lesley Bronson
    Rank: Commander

    Сitizenship: American
USCM branch of armed forces: Colonial Marine corps

    Autobiography:
Commander Chuck Lesley Bronson was born in Baltimore, MD. He enlisted into the Active Army in January 2172. He attended Basic Combat Training (BCT) at Fort Jackson, S.C and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana.

    Service record:
    - Passed military training in USCM corps trainee camp. Awarded the rank of private and transferred to an active military unit.

    - Served as Private from 2172 to 2175.
2173 Passed exams for medical assistant.
2174 Passed exams for engineer assistant.
Awarded with the rank of First Class Private and recommended to the Squad Leader position.

    - Chuck Bronson participated in operation “Jungle Storm”. During this operation USCM lost 99% of the manpower. Chuck Bronson’s squad lost communications in the first 30 minutes of operation. After it, there was no connection with squad for 2 weeks. Only one marine was recovered during rescue mission - it was Chuck Bronson. Rescue team found him all dirty and wild in a jungles of AO. In his report, he declared that his squad ran into a predator hunting ground which results in that tremendous losses. PFC Chuck Bronson diagnosed with post-traumatic disorder.

    - Promoted to Squad Leader and transferred to USS Almayer in 2175 . Served as Squad Leader in many operations and proved himself to be a competent leader. SL Chuck Bronson awarded the distinguished conduct medal during “Snow hell” operation. Recommended for promotion to Staff Officer.

    - Promoted to Staff Officer as part of crew USS Almayer. Served as competent and well trained Staff Officer. Recommended for promotion to Executive officer.

    - Promoted to Executive Officer. Leads USCM forces to glory in many battle operations against the xenos and CLF forces. Awarded the medal of valor during “Whiskey Bravo” conflict. Recommended for promotion to Captain rank.

    Service characteristic:
Chuck Lesley Bronson is the responsible officer who devotes himself to the case completely and without a trace. He is well educated to understand any activity on the ship and command them properly.

While serving as an executive officer during operation “Enrage”, he was noted for neglect of duty which results in his removal from the position of executive officer. After a detailed study of the reports on this case, it was revealed that Chuck Lesley Bronson at that moment was acted upon the heat of passion due to post-traumatic syndrome. After the course of the psychotherapy he was returned to service.

(P.S. i’m just trying to RP my jobban i’m understand that CO cannot behave as written in my jobban appeal. I learned my lesson and changed my mind about how to play CM at all. Also that’s why I want to try CO).

ExperienceHow familiar are you with command positions?
I think i'm competent SO, since i know about all activities of this role and activities of other departments so i can deputize if needed (req, field medic, etc). As OW i'm always trying to give my squad the most important and fresh information about OP progress and the situation around them. I'm always trying callout that some marine is wounded and recoverable during battle and trying to encourage people to save him. I’m think the most important objective of OW it’s to help marines communicate between themselves and be like a communication relay CIC <- ->Your Squad (which also applies to XO, but it is a little more difficult there since you have to serve 4 squads)

I'm good enough in XOing. Sometimes i manning CIC alone as XO and OP going quite successful (even on midpop). Like i’m reloading OB by myself. Manning the req line if req department is empty and etc. I’m not going to say that I'm always trying to do all things by myself, but I can maintain some side activities even if I'm alone in CIC.

And i played enough time on the Head of all departments, to know possibly all game mechanics in CM (but i'm not sure is it really "all" )

Approximately how many hours do you have as Executive Officer (XO) at the time of writing this application?
    Executive Officer 33.7 HOURS

    Other positions:
    Squad Leader 55.3 HOURS
    Squad Marine 35.5 HOURS
    Squad Specialist 22.9 HOURS
    Staff Officer 20 HOURS
    Researcher 16.3 HOURS
    Squad RT Operator 15.4 HOURS
    Squad Smartgunner 13.1 HOURS
    Vehicle Crewman 7.7 HOURS
    Pilot Officer 6.8 HOURS
    Maintenance Technician 5.4 HOURS
    Military Police 4.2 HOURS
    Squad Medic 4.1 HOURS
    Ordnance Technician 3.9 HOURS
    Chief Engineer 3.8 HOURS
    Survivor 3.1 HOURS
    Chief Medical Officer 2.5 HOURS
    Doctor 2.3 HOURS
    Squad Engineer 1.5 HOURS
    Mess Sergeant 1.2 HOURS
    Cargo Technician 0.6 HOURS

But it's not all because i played in 2020 before timelocks were merged to prod.

How familiar are you with Department Head positions?
Good enough to understand the work of each department and deputize any position that is not filled with active players. After the timelock was introduced i’m not playing on head of departments positions a lot, nowadays I just checked it for any new features. I played it mostly in 2020. After all my CM experience I just like playing command roles (XO mostly).

    Medbay:
I played as CMO/doctor in 2020 many times, so i'm know how to do medicine and surgery, chems, etc.
I played researcher nowadays to actualize my knowledge about new features and it seems I got acquainted with all the innovations (except making corrupted hive, some moderator said that this feature is broken for real. I still don't get it. Is it works or not?)

    Requisitions:
I didn't play that much, but enough to understand the department game mechanics and its purpose and importance. I can be a competent RO or CT. I played it mostly in 2020, when there was a wave of new players and sometimes i was really angry about not operable req or incompetent personnel in it, so i was trying to change this. Nowadays req works fine and I have no such desire, since req gameplay is kinda boring for me.

    Engineering:
I'm not a big fun of builder gameplay (except droning ), but i know how to build general constructions, fix APC and other main things in engineering (and I always can use wiki to refresh my knowledge). Also, just in comparison to SS13 I’d like to say that engineering in CM is kinda low on game mechanics. Which causes that more often CE’s are trying to play their gimmicks or just deploying to help FOB instead of ruling their department and trying to service the ship.

    Military police:
This is the department where I spent the least time. And that’s why:
Police concept in SS13 literally forces players to become a repressor. Since most players don't want or just cant to HRP or even MRP, they always doing dumb shit and the police is forced to react on it. Over a long period of time, this leads to the fact that a player who often plays MP just gets tired of the dumb behavior of the players and ceases to be a "liberal". Which results in perma brig for breaking window or such things. I've seen it many times and I don't want to be part of this show.

In fairness, I must say that on CM the situation is different because the local moder or admin staff is overwatching any controversial situations and also CM rules provide an appeal option for a prisoner (which is not so useful in my opinion, but this opportunity exists anyway and this is good practice from my point of view).

The above does not mean that I don’t know the marine law, because I rarely played MP roles. I know it in general terms, not word by word, but good enough to make a decision in a current situation.

In general, I would say that I can be a quite good CMP or MP, but I have no such desire.

Maybe because I served in the military in real life and I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT MP IS ABOUT.

How familiar are you with Marine Law and Standard Operating Procedure?
I know ML well enough. Dunno what i can say more there. Better ask me some tricky questions

I know SOP well enough. Same thing as for ML case.

ScenariosWhen do you believe a Battlefield Execution should be used?
I think it should be used when you directly see a some player griefing or doing some things that vitally affects round gameplay or players gameplay and you have no opportunity to RP it via game mechanics.

    Examples for BE:
    - Marine thrown M15 into the req window and started shooting people around
    - SO trying to kill XO in the name of Satan and chasing him with a knife

And the other things such like that.

Also i'm think SOMETIMES, it always depends on situation, but BE can be used to some newbie that did a great stupid shit that results in some significant problems to OP progress or some players gameplay. In my intention, this punishment will lead a newbie player to read the guidelines and some wiki at all (if he has not done this before start playing) and play more smart next time. At least that's how it turned out for me, when I was a rookie. Long time ago I played drone on Solaris Ridge. I melted ETA podlocks without permission and I was banished for that with the accompaniment of the chat like "RAT! BANISH THE RAT!", because I didn’t admit that I did it (in fact I just didn't realize that I melted the ETA podlocks because I just don't know what they are and why they were important for real). Fun thing that xenos won that round because they flanked marines through melted ETA podlocks and at the end of the round they blessed and glorified the rat like “LET’S KILL TALLS IN THE NAME OF THE RAT!” pretty epic

Fun thing that is on the next day, I saw a burrower with nickname RAT and he played CM with that nickname for a long time, serving as a reminder for me Dunno for real is his nickname related to my case. Will be fun if this burrower is still here and he can clarify it.

Under what circumstances do you believe it is legal to pardon a prisoner?
I think pardon is legal when a prisoner wants to atone for his guilt AND if his crime was not caused by griefer motives AND it was a crime that's not affects any players gameplay or round gameplay at all.

All the circumstances must be clarified during the investigation.

I'm NOT English native speaker and some parts of this application was translated with Google help.
While yes, nobody is required to be a native speaker to attain the CO Whitelist (I'm German, for my part), a higher level of English **is** required to get the whitelist.

Using Google translate, or other programs to check your grammar for this application is only acceptable in the scope of ensuring good presentation, i.e. tidying up the last few errors there might be due to simple human error. You, however, do not possess a grasp of English sufficient enough to be representing the CO WL in any way.

I'm speaking this harshly because this, I believe, is the best way to communicate this so that you can improve: you simply don't speak English well enough to get this Whitelist, or any whitelist, and need to study in the foreseeable future before reapplying. This app contains many errors and mistakes, which also makes me think that you didn't even bother asking anyone, Council, Whitelisted Captains or even just Community Members in general, for help and proofreading prior to submitting this application. This is a lack of enthusiasm to me, and by extension a lack of will to cooperate with others. It's fairly common knowledge that it does you literally no harm to show a application draft to others in Discord DMs prior to submitting, but you still did not. This is linked to you not having a Discord at all, obviously, which to me again shows that you aren't very interested in interacting with the Community and people within it, which presumably translates somewhat into your gameplay style in-game, if the XO ban is anything to go by.

Furthermore, I've literally never seen or heard of you.

In summary: You're a no-name, you literally had a XO Jobban until recently and you lack the English skills required to communicate with others on a level required for a Commanding Officer. Frankly this is a -1 from me.

I think you have the right spirit but I'm thinking that something may happen and be lost in translation and funny shit happens due to it. I like the spirit of your story and adding shit of what actually happened to you, but it can be added upon. I've never heard of you but time zones ect. so I won't hold that against you. Get on the discord and become more involved in the community, it will probably help your learning of English, as well as not making you a no name player. Also the XO job ban is not a promising feature. -1 from me, good luck in the future

Thanks for feedback LilPenpusher, i have a word to say.

This is linked to you not having a Discord at all, obviously, which to me again shows that you aren't very interested in interacting with the Community and people within it, which presumably translates somewhat into your gameplay style in-game
I want to say that I'm not agree with you on that point.
I have no Discord because I'm playing from my workstation (of course not during working hours), i just haven't PC at home. And since it's a workstation, i have no opportunity to install a lot of software that I didn't use in worktime. Byond is actually the only one exception.
I always try to communicate, playing any role in which it is necessary and I can explain myself clearly enough to be understood by other players. But on the other hand, i agreed that my speeches can sound kinda weird due to my English skills.
But I'm always have a opportunity to pre-create any templates of briefings and etc before the round start to make it sound better. And I hope playing as a CO can inspire me to improve my English skills since I'm fascinated by the CM gameplay (in my case it works like, I'm really learning faster when I'm already need something rather that I'm thinking that would be great to have this skill in the future).

Furthermore, I've literally never seen or heard of you.
I think this is because i have returned to the CM not so long time ago (2-3 month I think). Chuck Bronson appears like a 1.5 month ago.

Or maybe we didn’t see each other because of the time zone difference.

Play more, read marine law more. Your pardon answer is incomplete. The story itself seems cool and in-depth, but I can't say I have ever seen you as an XO. I don't care about your jobban really, we all do stupid stuff. However, I suggest you leave this up for a bit, get some advice, then withdraw it. You can get Discord on your phone and communicate with the community that way, it's very important to have discord in any whitelist due to the constant changes to rules and regulations. I bet you can do good, but I can't say you're ready yet.

While I love to see another member of the dying breed of SL mains, and you seem to have a good enough experience in a variety of roles, there are still a few fundamental issues.

    1. Most important, you gotta be able to speak English fluently, no amount of hours and experience with the rest of CM will overcome being a CO that needs to google translate every announcement. I don't mean to demean you, and Im sure this comes off as dick-ish, but it really is essential.

    2. Don't know about your ML ability, don't really care to be honest. If Fort says you should get more, I'd listen.

    3. And honestly this is what it comes down to for me after the English, I just don't know you. Now it could be timezones, it could be schedules, it could just be plain bad luck. But I haven't seen you in any memorable way as XO, or more importantly to me, SL.

I'll make sure to keep an eye out for you, and I highly advise getting advice from other COs on Discord, but for now, it'll be a -1 from me. I think you've got the drive and the passion to get CO, and just keep pushing on that, and I promise you'll get there eventually.

CO that needs to google translate every announcement
Not so bad, I'm definitely not using Google Translate while playing CM. I used it mostly to write Story of my character in this application, since I never tried to write a story in English. And I don't think that I'm good at writing at all. I was surprised that someone appreciated my story.

But it's right that I can't speak gracefully with a lot of epithets and truly HRP things (let's be real, which is really rare now, as i see). I can talk, in general, but it may sounds like kinda weird sometimes.

I've seen you a few times as XO, you do a decent job but I can really tell you google translate with the delay on some of your announcements. I'm a Russian minor so I understand learning a language that's retarded like English isn't easy, but I'd really recommend you just play the game for a bit longer and try really hard to interreact with people as much as possible to improve your English. You don't need to be able to write Shakespeare, but you also shouldn't have to premake templates on briefings and announcements, they should be spontaneous and fitting to the situation/plan.

After a discussion with the CO Council we have, unfortunately, decided to deny this application due to your recent XO jobban (even if it was lifted) as well as a lack of confidence from the Council in terms of your abilities as well as your appearances -- we haven't seen you enough yet to vouch for you.

I recommend taking the advice of everyone on this thread as well as asking for advice around from the people who see you as XO.

Please note that CO applicants need to be on Discord to be eligible for the whitelist.

Application denied. You may reapply in 1 month on 7 September if you wish.
