Description of the incident

I rolled spec and chose the grenadier kit and had opted to not take the M92 (the grenade launcher that comes with the kit) and had instead opted to take a MK1 pulse rifle which has the same grenade capacity and can follow up on grenade stuns.

I told my squad what I was doing and it was met with mixed messages.

Note: I took the rest of my kit the armour, gloves and grenade belts/satchels

No punishment but I would like the note removed.

I was part of the squad that had Piett as GL.

Initially Piett received negative feedback from squad, but he clarified that he took Mk1, not Mk2. If I remember correctly, on the dropship Piett even asked for help groundside to check Mk1 UGL for its IFF capabilities (shooting through marines), so that should be indicative of Piett not having malicious intents. Apart from that, I can confirm that he had Spec loadout.

I'm also part of this round and given that I may or may not be a little more qualified to talk about the grenade launcher (given that I have 30 hours in spec and is a mentor)
I don't think piett did anything wrong here as it's not uncommon for specialists to not take their primary weapon if they can do better as their role with a different weapon or to use their primary weapon less than their secondary weapon

We had a discussion about it in msay, and I considered it in line with the ruling that specs have to take their kits now, especially as when I asked why you abandoned the GL you said your answer was experimenting, rather than following up on a grenade stun. In retrospect I feel that forwarding it to rule clarifcation for a more concrete ruling from managment may have been a better course of action.

Okay, so this report sat longer than I'd like due to discussions and also me forgetting. The official ruling going forward is this: Specialists must be performing their role, but the equipment they use to perform that role doesn't matter. With that said, it really only applies to the grenade specalist as the sniper can't snipe without their sniper (no, the L42 does not count), the SADAR can't fire rockets without their SADAR, and so forth.

So, in this specific case, your actions were acceptable provided you were still primarily laying down grenade fire.

With that said, I find no wrongdoing with Schalkguy, as the ruling was unclear. The note will be removed though.
