    Rework PFC/CL/Researcher/Specialist/ Mission Subops.

This might be a longer post, I have a bit to say, it might be really dumb but here goes.

A significant part of CM mechanics is based around pretending to be either an alien or some spacefaring jarhead. Part of the issue, innate to this, is that you are pretending. And as we well know, pretending does very little, after the hundred hour mark or so, most people just want to win, they do not care about roleplay, unless they are a shipside role or some memer on the planet. This win at all costs type gameplay is quite obvious, from the shotgun bandits unloading nine shells of fletchette in .1 seconds to dancers/warriors instantly performing combos with what appears to be complete precision, to marines that manage to throw and pick up throwing knives faster than the eye can see. This style of sweaty gameplay come, it would seem, from the metaknowledge that the marines will be fighting xenos, they do not have to worry about things like having bullets come back at them. This is less impactful for xenos, as, I mean, they are supposed to be a terrifying, fast predator, not some bumkin that learned how to juggle m37s from a clown and apparently can fire them with a single hand in seconds.

So, what is the solution to the constant, boring metagaming that is ever present on the battlefield? My proposal, would be a rework of the current win condition, and a broad rework of most of the current ingame interactions. To start this semi-psychotic post, I would like to emphasize that most of the ingame features that this would utilize would already exist, and that this would simply be repurposing them to spice up the server, and create new opportunities for everyone.

    1. Remove specialists from current squads, instead, slightly buff SG, and add a second one to each squad.

    2. Turn Echo in to a BlackOps group, this group will then have between 4-10 members, all specialists. However, a caveat exists. The Blackops group, hidden on the alamyer, is not a tradition search and destroy team, like the other four. Instead, they act as an antagonistic force, they have a job that directly opposes the marines in one way or another...

But what...how can this be? They are marines, they are supposed to be our friends, our big guns, or team. Yes, perhaps. But to fit the concept of shaking up the game, and also to serve what comes next, it is necessary.

So, how Echo squad/BlackOps would work, is that they would get a roundstart objective IE recover sensitive WY documents, hijack a UPP signaling device, destroy a CLF weapons cache, subdue a xeno beacon that is calling in a larger hive to wipe out the planet...simply put, shit that would make WY or the SM freak the fuck out and send strategic nuclear missiles at the Falling Falcons and anyone else in the system. The antagonist part comes in here, the FF know that Echo exists, even though they have to deny it, but the CL/RSR gives each SL a small pointer, to four different locations. One of these locations will be the location that the BlackOps team has to complete their objective, the other three are not.

Following so far, good. The next stage is rather simple. The spec/superpowered squad then fights the normal marines, if the Spec squad wins, the marines will get something of significant value(WY ERT for WY docs, Tank for UPP signaler, MarSoc for CLF, WY XRT for xeno beacon) however, if they fail, a similarly round changing affect will occur, ( Hostile WY ERT, UPP commandos, Privateers/ CLF raid, rogue hive landing on ship). So, then you might ask, why in the FLYING FUCK, would marines ever want to stop the Black Ops from giving them a tank...simple. Black Ops will be a whitelisted role. Not white listed through gushy /me and what have you. Whitelisted through killing BlackOps. Every round, the squad that gets the correct location of the high value target, can get one point towards whitelisting, by securing the site. At three points acquired, the player will then get the chance to role for BlackOps. Once on the the team, the player will loose one point every round, but can win one point every round by capturing the point. Thus, we have create conflict, a unique, dynamic world for, not only the PFC, but also the xeno, and the shipside staff, and the MPs. Everyone, really, gets shaken up.

    3. "But hold on, asshole." you say "What about all the fucking PFCS, what about actually fighting beans even if you do succeed. Squads are going to have no fire power now, and half of the marines are just going to get slaughtered fighting for some random objective anyway."
Yes, squads would be heavily nerfed, which is why I propose a significant bump in PFC power, or atleast, tactical customization. I propose that PFCs should be given some of the old options from the tech trees, as compensation. Perhaps allow them to choose two or three of the old options. IE Let them get night vision, a ceramic plate, and a dose of neurostims. This, in my incredibly humble opinion, would both widen the randomness of encounters, and would also create much more potential for every PFC, as they would have lots of new routes to cover the weaknesses humans have, especially in the new paradigm of squad sized groups, compared to yee olde ungaball.

I am tired, it is midnight, or close to it. I will be posting this up. I intend to theorize uses for the researcher and liaison in such a world in the morning. I would like to see any criticism. This post was mostly just a harebrained theory craft, although, with some adjustments to xeno power, having the surface be something along the lines of a 3-4 different parties battling it out for survival might be quite interesting, or even having MPs have to quell human, and not so human invaders on the ship might be a nice change of pace.

    1. Remove specialists from current squads, instead, slightly buff SG, and add a second one to each squad.

"Sounds good, doesn't work" - Trump or I don't know

You assume 8 buffed SGs will support their squad and usual. In reality they will group up and make a wall of IFF mass that will decimate any xenos as has literally no counter. Slap them in a 2x4 formation with auto fire, now you essentially have a wall of moving sentries that will literally kill a Prae in 3 seconds from full HP. And you want to buff it even? What about that 50 other marines on planet? They can just sit in canteen while 8 marines kill 40 xenos.

    2. OP as fuck. Takes no effort for a marine to break in CIC with breacher M41 and drop an OT. Imagine what a scout can do. Scout can melee while remaining invisi or PB than instantly back to invisi. It's really incredible how many kills a good scout can get that has the patience to wait for a xeno to rest with 10% HP while just a little bit away from the others. That 2 sec that you de-cloak they have no chance for marines or xenos to find you.

This game would be like whiskey where you need infinite marines as a few guys will get 20-30 kills each.

100% agree on the no RP meta abusing part. But devs dont care that some people abuse weapons. Yesterday 1 guy had 8 kills during a medium long round. If 10 guys shoots the xeno and the one finishing off gets a kill on paper, sure. But I watched this guy as ghost. He literally used ALL meta abusing power gaming tactics in the book. Gets the kills? Yes. Fun for other marines or xenos? Definitely not. Devs care? Nope, they encourage low RP and power gaming. So as they say, cope. No fun allowed. No RP needed. Just kill while abusing the game.

It should be just some other force replacing benos once in a while without marine knowledge if anything, not some black-ops whatever bs.

Just on some rounds (without marine knowlede) remove benos, add CLF/UPP/Mercenaries, adjust stuff and here you go.

I'm sure most of the metagaming/powergaming comes from fucking boredom. Oh, yeah, another beno round, how incredeble. Imagine normal SS13 round, but every shift is a blob. Even the highest RP servers will crumble naturally over time. Quite easy to see. Even I dropped slugs after years of playing them. Not just because the nerfs, I just got bored from constantly fighting benos and constantly dying with this sub-optimal/garbage loadout.
And goodbye RPing, shit gets boring the same, barerly have enough patience and willpower to even label my gear each round, or to press macro to yell some Nod quote after killing a beno, or before a suicide charge.
Event round where I sat in a UPP cell for two hours as CIA agent was more interesting than 100 CM rounds.
Can't blame "shotgun jugglers" and other for being sweaty too much, there is no variety, everything is stale as fuck, or stupid.

imagine thinking removing one of the more RP intensive roles to add more roles that are unironically more brain dead than PFCs would fix anything. im sorry SG mains but your brain is smaller than most of the plat PFCs

    1) You assume everyone is going to want to be in the same location, yeah if people just want to meme they can, but there will likely be one group that doesn't follow along. Also, oppressor prae exists, and we already have walls of IFF with HPR L42, M56 tripod, and it is annoying for beans, yes, but it isnt the three second kill you are saying it is.

    2) I am not sure where you are getting this marines breaking in to CIC, the goal is surface side, they are still "marines" still held to ML when on ship, just with the added requirements of not letting it be obvious that they are on ship in the first place. And yeah, perhaps it would be strong, but they would have to survive both xeno kidnapping attempts, and marine sieges to capture the objective, neither of which would be easy, considering xenos also can be invisible, and marines would likely order cas and mortar on them. It would not be walk in to CiC, and murder everyone, and again, if the BO players just focus down xenos, they won't be BO players for long.

RP intensive? Sniper=Sit behind and shift click xenos, yell at marines to break walls
    Scout=Sneaky lazer boi
RPG-Try and break your model as much as possible to bait xenos in to walking out and catching a rocket
    Pyro-Mobile marine roasting service
    GL-Mobile marine blending service.
I rarely see any spec RP, I dont even really know what you are talking about, and specs would not be gone, they would just be moved to a different unit and gave a different job. But you would know that if you would read what I posted.

Im not saying its alot but you usually have to talk to HC as scout. Have req order more explosives as SADAR and GL. Pyro < get yelled at by marines when you flame them off : ). As SG though? Nah you dont even have to bother req most of the time unless the round is ultra long. The definition of an NPC because you dont even have to bitch about FF either lol

I skimmed a lot of it.. but it feels like the same old thing.

For whatever reason the devs seem to want to turn the game into Natural Selection 2. Nobody wants it. No one in charge seems to give a shit.

The players fought and bitched about permanesting forever.. it went in anyways.

We pushed back against "expected contact".. it's the norm and everyone sprints to hive. Metarush rules were scrapped.

We fought against techwebs.. and they went in and floundered for a year+. Now we have no defcon or webs or devs.

Your solution requires many changes.. that no one will do. The devs don't seem to have a vision outside of "you think you do but dont" and just like EA or Blizzard it's THEIR game.. you just play it.

They don't read the forums for ideas.

Then lower the amount of round start ammo, make IFF something marines have to turn on themselves so when PFC numbnuts walks infront of the firing line they have some SG holes in their head. Saying that FF is the reason RP exists is somewhat silly, or rework SG ammo, remove the AP/Accuracy ammo toggle, make them have to manually load the proper type of ammo they want, this could even give them more options, give them demolition ammo for fighting through resin walls, fire ammo for fighting in fields against t1/t2, AP ammo for fighting t3, and accuracy ammo for fighting boilers and the like. Now you still have SG RP, and you also opened up the pathways to more impactful SG gameplay beyond (see beno, shoot beno)

Awesome just what we need, the protagonist squad to supersede the protagonist role and they get to legally grief.
