it's just. he's a suppressing fire role with extremely limited ammo and utility. compared to HPR

Hah jokes on you, I don't go on reddit! At first, I was just going to name it something like "M39 sucks and here's why" but after I realized how long it was, I figured why not add a snarky title. Also, this was intended to go on the last post about the M39 but it was locked so I had to make a new post to continue discussion, but whatever, everyone's a critic.

well the M39 is in a weird place since it's the smaller brother to the pulse rifle and the distant cousin of the shotgun, it does not excel in CQC nor medium-long range, shotgun slugs stun at range and buckshot shreds AND stun in PB range. the pulse rifle has better accuracy and range capabilities.

So i guess to balance it out it should have a higher rate of fire and decreased recoil? like BeardedWall said, maybe using it one handed could be viable? it already can be carried in a holster so it has potential to be a sidearm. Or change the stock HV ammo for hollow points, since as far as im concerned t1's have barely any armor. making it a good weapon to chase injured xenos again. we all know landing the second shot in a fleeing runner can be difficult.

Overall it has a lot of potential to be a combo weapon that right now has meager stats and completely pales in comparison. Only seen it wielded by baldies.

To be honest, the main goals of a SMG realistically is to make it was lightweight and as compact as possible to what the M39s description matches. Light Infantry, Medics, Specialists, etc. This makes the weapon more suitable as a backup weapon rather than a frontline weapon, depending on the play style people are running it.

The M39 is in no way supposed to be superior to the MK1/2 or the M37 due to the different cartridges, seeing how the M39 runs a pistol cartridge rather than a rifle cartridge or shotgun shell. But by no means it's not terrible at CQC, seeing how you can PB aliens and humans alike with it's 5-round Burst. I tried it out several times in WO, and the weapon rocks in defense once you land a devastating wave of AP rounds on a Defender or Warrior. Those will melt them despite the nerfs.

I don't like it's current state as well, and it's falloff and firerate could be increased back to where they were, while the ammunition damage could stay in the same place it is? Still, the gun isn't unplayable. The only problems I see with it is that people see it is the innacurate burst it has and how much people shit on the thing.

Whatever role M39 fullfills, Mod88 fullfills it better.

Need a compact sidearm? Mod88 is your pal, fits in satchels, or in sidearm pouches for that fast shift+e draw.
Need a chase weapon? Mod88 has no recoil and lower scatter.
Need a beno killer? Mod88 deals more damage to anything that has any armor.
All of that for less ammo in mag and slower firerate, unless we go dual-wielding, then latter is the opposite and the former is only 12 bullets short. And this still fits in satchels.

Instead of fighting over M39, pick shotgun with buckshot and mod88.

M39 is literally just an average pistol that doesn't fit in satchels, nothing more, nothing less.
