Yautja Character Story The Yautja and the Twine
Coy'otl is a Yautja of the Boytill Clan first conceived in the year 2175 born under the light of a thousand stars on the far eastern quadrant of Yautja prime. At an early age, Coy'otl was left on his own to hone the craft of hunting by the clan elders once Coy'otl was old enough to craft his first spear. Although the Yautja grew to enormous sizes weighing 500 pounds and up to the height of 8 feet, Coy'otl only grew to 5’8” tall and weighed only 325 pounds well below the average. To say that the elders had little faith in the runt of the pack would be an understatement constantly reminding the adolescent yautja that should he fail his hunting rites the stone pillar of shame would once again run with the blood of a yautja. Prior to being sent to complete the rites of the hunter, Coy'otl mother would bestow onto him a portion of twine with the inscription of the Bo’ytill clan and a note.
The relic twine was passed down by generations of hunters in P'l-Jon’s family who were rumored to have walked the same paths as Matean-O during the founding of the Bo'ytill many years ago. P'l-Jon's mother told the young yautja that the twine was once a mighty rope utilized by the yautja in rituals to hang the trophies they procured at the end of every hunt. Over the years the rope diminished in length as the family and clan grew in size yielding greater and larger trophies after every hunt. The family decided to retire the rope and distribute a small portion of it too every young yautja so that it may hang their very first trophy in the halls of the lodge. With the portion of twine at hand, spear in the other and the kiss of his mother Coy'otl set about his maiden journey into the unknown environment.
Coy'otl had only been taught the fundamentals of the hunt as a youngling, always being told by the elders that a hunter can always learn to make a bow, craft a spear, and prepare stew from others but they will never learn how to hunt unless they do it alone. Being the runt of the family, Coy'otl couldn't capitalize on the massive physical advantage his fellow yautja inherited in years past. Coy'otl wanting to bring back a trophy worthy of praise and recognition decided that he would not settle for the smallest prey focusing much of his attention on the XX-122 lifeforms which inhabited the region. Coy'otl stalked day night roaming hives of XX-122s attempting to learn from his prey the culture, movement patterns, and even dietary needs to gain every advantage he could muster.
Unfortunately for Coy'otl the XX-122 proved to be far more cunning and physically stronger than Coy'otl could ever hope to achieve. The runner quickly on its feet could outrun Coy'otl in the thick jungle forests of Yautja prime as it scouted the area for potential danger. The drone rarely left the safety of the hive, only parting ways for moments at a time to hunt for small prey while protected by a defender. The defender with its mighty crest broke arrows, spears, and even glanced hits of the ceremonial dagger which was famed for its razor-sharp edge and intricate designs. If Coy'otl wanted any chance to bring home a trophy to the clan lodge then he would have to hunt efficiently. Coy'otl from his many observations discovered that in order to catch the prey the hunter must bring the familiar into the unfamiliar and slay it in the midst of confusion and isolation.
Instead of fighting the runner in thick jungles, Coy'otl lured the creature to the swamping marshes of Yautja prime allowing the creature to become exhausted and bogged down in the mud striking a fatal blow when the creature was at its weakest. The remains of the runner were used to lure the unsuspecting drone to the thick forest where Coy'otl hung it from the trees of the great jungles as it screamed roars of an incomprehensible nature. The noise drew the attention of the defender who attempted to free the drone to no avail striking the great tree with its crest to the point at which it began to crack and slowly bleed. As the crest of the defender slowly broke away, Coy'otl leaped at the creature from high above in the trees, piercing the weakened crest of the defender and ending its life. The drone having served its purpose was lowered onto the forest floor and butchered alongside its Xeno sisters to fashion pelts and weaponry to be later engraved with imagery of the great first hunt.
