Yautja Character Story A black circle stood alone in front of an otherwise equally dark background. The silhouette of the planet looked like a hole in the otherwise empty space around it. Green lights flashed upwards in the cockpit. The vessel was warning it’s pilot. D’Aaiyez glanced down at his console. His mandibles clicked together as he cocked his head to it’s side. Green lines reflected from his eyes as they moved across the readout. His jaw clicked one final time and he stood up.
Encircled by pinpoints of light, D’Aaiyez G’naugt-Ess would be a fearsome sight to a normal human observer. However, to other Yautja, he would not be anything outside of “normal.” He boasted no special scars, markings, or physical intonations. The dreads hanging from his head draped down his back, clasped together with brass colored rings. His tan skin shimmered in the green light. His size, stature, and structure were altogether as far as yautja considered, unremarkable. He did what was expected, and offered what was expected.
His feet clicked across the deck as the machinery and systems whirred and hissed. An abrupt snort and huff stopped him. He sighed heavily and half turned his head. Amongst the rapid clicks and clacks of his mandibles he uttered “Sei-i Yeyinde, dtai'kai'-dte.”
The green-scaled doglike creature barked and leapt up from its resting place. As it galloped to its master a trail of drool and bits of food from its mouth dribbled occasionally on the floor of the ship. D’Aaiyez nodded as he walked and glanced down as the creature came to heel and matched his pace. The creature’s collar was made of what most humans would describe as red leather, as wide as a hand and as thick as a thumb. He regarded the creature with curiosity and respect. It had been at his side for some time now.
He turned and opened a cabinet to retrieve his equipment. Intelligently the beast barked again, and became even more visibly excited as it observed the gear that D’Aiyez selected. He turned again to the beast and his mandibles clicked once. “Sei-i, Kiande Amedha.” His eyes flashed and opened wide to embellish the point to the creature.
The giant creature barked and leapt again, obviously excited at the prospect of another hunt. With each piece of gear the hound became more and more excited. Spittle flung around as it continued to whip itself up into more excitement. As suddenly as lt started, it stopped. D’Aiyez picked up the mask and turned to the hound. Yeyinde stood completely still, his usually gaping mouth shut tight as a trap and still, save for a singular stream of drool slowly listing to the ground, and the slightly wheezing breath escaping it’s nostrils. His eyes, large black orbs, glanced up at D’Aiyez and to the mask. D’Aiyez turned down to the hound and nodded.
He rotated the mask and put it on. They were going to enjoy the day. As he stepped through the door he clicked his jaws a couple times. He cocked his head and held his hand up with a singular digit. The hound stopped immediately and stared intently, if it had a tail, it would have wagged.
“Lou-dte Kale-” Before he could finish, the hound immediately huffed and rolled its eyes, now obviously far less interested. D’Aiyez lowered the digit and pointed directly at Yeyinde. Obviously irritated at the animal and it’s disrespect.
“M-DI! The two stared at one another for a moment, neither moving. The hound, sensing that it may not get to participate if it held out much longer, lowered it’s head and walked in through the door. Yeyinde turned and sat next to the standing D’Aiyez. The hound adjusted and shook his head a bit. It appeared more like a stone gargoyle than a living beast now.
D’Aiyez nodded, clicked his mandibles once, and slowly stood upright. He flipped up the readout on his forearm and punched in a couple coordinates. As it whirred he adjusted his shoulders and stood erect. He grabbed his dreads and shifted them slightly, breathing deeply in the rhythmic fashion he was taught to prepare himself for hunts.
Yeyinde glanced up, noticing D’Aiyez taking extra time to adjust his appearance. He huffed loudly and looked forward again.
D’aiyez stared straight ahead. “Ell-osde' pauk” His mandibles clicked as the light flashed and teleported them both to the planet’s surface.
