New Marine Protocols

Post by VarisiaLote » 13 Apr 2018, 12:11

I've been playing WO quite a bit to work on RP as well as continually familiarize myself with Marine Law from top to bottom. From two specific incidents I've come to a couple of Conclusions.

The first, is most MPs fail to follow proper procedure when both arresting as well Brigging Marines. I'm am not faultless at this either I as have as well. Unfortunately, other then throwing MPs in for Neglect(which will result in a permanent lack of MPs each OP but maybe it has to) or faxing HC (which there may or may not be someone available to fax you back not to mention it takes time which you might not have)there isn't really an IC way to resolve the break in procedure. Personally, I suggest either the Prisoner gets a sentence reduction (not applicable for Execution or instantly Permanent Confinement crimes) or make it official that you are to Brig the MP for their Violations.

The second, is there are no proper Quarantine or Biohazard protocols in place. Not for Eggs, Larva (both in a host or free), or Zombies. My suggestion is that those protocols will take effect if the aCO OR CMO says to activate either protocol (as waiting for an agreement from both while you have a potentially highly infectious pathogen is moronic both IC as well as OOC). Protocols might entail the allowance of temporary detainment of any personnel in contact with potential pathogens (no permanent confinement just enough to clear or confirm), access for MPs to the morgue or Research (more for Zombies than Huggers), as well as maybe automatic 'Blue' Level for CIC, MPs, as well as doctors (Marines, MTs, CTs will still be on Green unless the Alert level gets elevated through the CIC). Finally, an announcement about the reason for the Quarantine protocol must be given after you enact them as soon as is possible.
Eh, they're probably fine. [ The Blueberries were in fact, not fine.]

Meh, MPs should be reworked in my opinion... It's absurd to see military police with just tasers and stun baton aboard a military vessel. The regulations are pretty vague, the marine law says the WO and MPs are not subordinate to command, but what you get is opposite because seems like command is allowed to rule over the marine law and issue orders to WO on who arrest and what charges. The riot equipment is something hilarious too. I mean, in short they're like the clowns in classic SS13 servers.

I think that Military Police have a great reason to be on the ship. They provide an IC reason to not break the rules, and I think that they do their job whenever they need to. Their role is mainly a preventative measure, just like the job I work in real life (IT), which means they're not always doing crazy stuff, but they will eventually have something crazy to do, such as mutiny or commander who breaks marine law, etc. etc.

The main thing to keep in mind, at least in my opinion, is that the Military Police are aboard the vessel which is commanded by the commander. That DOES in a sense put them under the command of the commander, but the MPs have jurisdiction to usurp his/her command if he/she breaks marine law.

To address what the OP said: I think that having actual protocol for these events is a wise idea, and makes sense. Hell, we have protocol for an alien invasion where I work. It's not too far-fetched for the marines to prepare for the worst.
