Xander's Changelog

Post by XanderDox » 16 Aug 2015, 19:17

Okay, so now that I have an account because I found the Register button, I've made some changes and probably will continue to do so. Below shall be my changelog.

August 16th
Major Changes
  • -Filled out the empty Corporate Liaison guide/page
    -Created a CMO guide/page
    -Remade the Sulaco Doctor page
    -Remade the Researcher page
Minor Changes
  • -Changed the Medical Staff Guide section to a red/pink colour coding. Corresponding guides are also red/pink colour coded now.
August 17th
Major Changes
  • -Added a changelog that copies the servers to the wiki. Found at: wiki/Changelog
August 18th, 2015
Major Changes
  • -Fleshed out/revamped the Survivor Guide.
Minor Changes
  • -Move Corporate Liaison's job listing into Non-USCM category. (Reasoning being they aren't actually USCM workers, hopefully will let Liaison's know they can't yell out orders)
    -Updated Server's Changelog page

Yeah, but that wouldn't be easily accessible for people!

Saw the thing that someone requested a changelog be added to the wiki, since staff didn't want to do it which was understandable, I added one, it'd be nice if it could be added to the front wiki page, I'll keep it updated.

I appreciate your tenacity, but the work:usefulness ratio on having a duplicate changelog on the wiki is abysmal.

For the moment, only I have access to the front page, and I plan on keeping it that way indefinitely. You can keep the changelog updated if you really want to, but I won't be adding a link to it to the front page. It will undoubtedly become outdated as you or others forget to update it/real life happens/get busy with something/lose interest, and I know none of our Devs have any interest in keeping it current, so the in-game Changelog will always be the most accurate version anyway.

Alright, I don't have much of a life if you knew me and I'm always at my computer, but that's fine I guess.

I'm quite fond of wiki-upkeep and such and have worked on the wiki for every community I've been a part of.

Can we get a link to the Changelog on the front page? It servers as a additional place to keep track of changes to the game and a more effective way to quickly view historical changes in a quick to view format, I've also been updating the changelog as well.

I tried to suggest this, Rahz said no because of the chance it wouldn't be updated enough, however we have plenty of other outofdate links on our front page so I don't actually see an issue >_>

And that "plenty" large list of three pages is out of date because...?

I'll give you "History". That was a mistake. Slang and Lore have nothing out of date that I can see. At least, nothing that's not easily editable by anyone who has a registered account.

I swapped History with Changelog. Looks like you guys are keeping it up to date. I still don't see a significant point for having it, but I suppose a few people might be smart enough to Watch the page so they can get email notifications when it changes.

I'd like to point out that only the Server Administration can really do anything with the Lore Page, as they are the ones that dictate the Server's lore/canon.

.. Eh, if this is true then i wasn't aware.

We are pretty much an alternate/custom version of the alien universe we recognize from the movies and comics and such i believe. But very little has been defined or been cleared up so i haven't tried editing it more.. I'm not sure what Apop is planning, though i do think we will need a lore team eventually

There are key differences in the lore, such as the fact that Weyland-Yutani is not the sole funder and basic owner of the US Marines in our lore, while they are in Alien lore. Also the different alien castes roles, in the series its said the the Praetorian is the one that turns into the Queen in her absence, not the drone. Praetorians also don't ever leave the Queen's side, which is not what we see in game obviously. Then the castes that aren't in the real Alien lore, such as Spitters, Ravagers and Crushers.

We exist before Alien 1, or the Liaison would know about the Aliens due to Ripley having existed and the like, as would the Marines.

Theres also the fact that Weyland-Yutani established an Archaeology Colony, this isn't lorebacked at all as they had no interest in Archaeology. While I know this is meant to be a cover up for them looking for aliens, its a bad one, because any smart person would slowly draw conclusions as to why a Weapon and Colonization company is making an Archaeology Camp in deep space.

The weapons need materials, don't they?

Archaeologists don't specialize in mining metals. They specialize in digging up ruins.

And what would a company that loves money want with alien ruins?
