Haven't tried the new ones but I prefer the bigger teams to the small squads. Also the art style... Some things just look so strange in that "realistic" style.

Get the PirateZ mod for OpenX-Com; it's fucking baller: http://ufopaedia.org/index.php/Piratez

Basically it's set hundreds of years in the future in an alternate continuity after the Ethereals won where the world has predictably transformed into a crapsack dystopia (no, it's not cribbing its story from X-Com 2; PirateZ came out well before that game was released) and you lead a band of mutant amazons in their piracy adventures.

I saw that before, looks really high quality. Story's not my kind of thing though. How have your experiences been with it?

Great; easily the best use of Open X-Com thus far, and lots of fun. The lore is pretty good too, though you must go in knowing much of it is predicated on tongue in cheek and gallows humour.
