Phoenix Point

While I haven't backed the game, I'm feeling both hyped and concerned it.
The pre-alpha looks good and I like the blend of old x-com action points with Firaxis XCOM "two action" movement. However when reading articles about the overworld/geoscape and the alien evolution system with all the faction stuff going on, I get concerned that maybe the game is a tad overly ambitious.
I mean Julian Gollop sounds like he's on the ball and gives good community feedback, but I find myself extremely cautious of "big name old guard dev" on projects now. What with how Mighty No.9 turned out awful, yooka lay-lee was average all the way and Star Citizen will likely be out sometime in the year 2235 (I know it's apples and oranges as the genres are different).

tl;dr I really like what I see and the concepts sound really good and well thought out but I feel the game's development may nose dive due to over ambition.

Anyone else thinking the same?
