I was thinking of getting DMC: Devil may Cry, is it that different from the first game?

The definitive edition is 'okay', but the tone story and general artstyle are so far removed from the aesthetic and tone that it may as well not be DMC at all. I personally recommend avoiding it.

It looks good, it has old donte and the little gameplay they showed looked pretty good.
