Mechwarrior Living Legends

Post by Whistle » 07 Jul 2016, 19:04

So in my app I originally said I was part of another community, a long time free game by the name of Mechwarrior Living Legends.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXBuoJcWAF8

this vid showcases a very old version, not what we run anymore, but shows a great mix of combined arms, from fighting on a rotating asteroid with day night cycles that alter the environment, mech play, tank play and low grav exciting Infantry combat.

First of all, it's free, runs of the old Cry engine and im one of the Drop commanders.

What that means is we do organized events every weekend, we pit two teams against each other, usually with hand chosen assets fit for the style of combat and map we are playing. (of which there are over a hundred)
Assets range from hovercraft, tanks, infantry, mechs, Aerospace and Vtol with a massive artillery piece thrown in for good measure.
All of these have multiple variations, some with different electronic suites for further range, radar ECM, increased visual optics, tagging equipment to guide missile far indirectly and indeed speed/armour.

You will find weapons from large ballistic shotguns, to Gauss cannons, to Autocannons, to lasers of varying strength size and utility, Tag lasers, missiles from Short range to Extreme long range to Arrows, which are about the size of a tank and hit just as hard.
I personally play BA (infantry) and I can assure you, there is nothing more satisfying than sticking explosive charges onto a 90 ton mech in the middle of a brawl and watching it's engines go ablaze.

In short, this is combined arms done right, this is a Mechwarrior game done right and while it's development halted some time ago, there is a community whom cannot find a replacement anywhere and are always eager to fight.

Here's some of my vids.

And here is the install guide which has been updated in response to this thread.

Note: We do use Teamspeak, it's needed for the organized drops to coordinate, mics however are not needed, just preferred.

We're also mainly on during the weekends, but you can always keep an eye via: stats.spikx.net/mwll.html

Not to be boastful, however we see alot of MWO players coming our way, fans of the series, yet disappointed with the current iteration.

Small maps, money grabbing, mech vs mech, no sense of scale.

Wasn't there a £500 option to get a gold plated mech?

What im trying to say is, it's worth a shot compared to the grind of MWO.

Yeah there was some iffy choices. The maps get repetitive after a while. However i don't mind the mech vs mech thing because honesty its kind of the symbol of the franchise. Its not too bad, but a good number of the good maps are kind of barred off in the pseudo campaign.

The real question is, can i still meme about as a Jenner or Locust. Because despite the massive faults of light mechs in MWO, they're god damn so much fun to use.

Can't use em myself worth shit though.

Infantry and mediums are where my heart lies, my team run BlackLanner from time to time, massive maps, cutting through teams like cav.

Good game, spent most of my time in Tanks cause Tanks are cool and underrepresented in Battletech video games.

Games are hard to get and are usually in 300+ ping for me.
This is war, survival is your responsibility.

300 ping? jesus where are you? We alternate between American servers, German servers mainly, should be able to set you up sometime, get in touch with me.

As for tips? Just remember, you're gonna die, you can put that off by ejecting.
Coordinate with your team mates, a lone mech is a dead mech.

Weekend matches are the main life blood of the game, that's when we play. (I won't be there this week sadly, work work work.)

Wait when did they bring back MW:LL?! I was a part of this community before MWO was available, and there was a big long post about how MW:LL was dead on their forums.

This game was far superior to MWO. I loved running around in an elemental and fucking up mech cockpits while his buddies shot him to pieces trying to swat me off.

It's what I do too, BA all the way.
It's actually becoming more and more popular, active throughout the week and overloaded organized matches, JOIN US.

I've been with MW:LL since the beginning, left after development halted, and with how they left a loooot of half-finished systems and redesigns (Like that new hud and internals). Ran with CJW most of the time I was there, but I might reinstall everything if there's enough people on, unfortunately time and location sort of play against my favor in this case GMT -9 is not a very active timezone... How active are we talking as of late?
