Fallout 13 - First Impressions

Post by completelynewguy » 15 Aug 2016, 12:37

Well I played on the Fallout 13 server.

It's got a lot of potential and despite its rough edges I think the server will act as a second competitor to CM, given that the staff recruit the right people.

A number of the sprites look pretty good and faithful to the source material, my only complaint about the art are the cycled items from /tg/station.

Weaponry so far is limited and ammunition significantly scarce, to the point of giving up the moment you see a gun on the ground. If the staff manage to get a forum set up and clear up their methods and principles of balancing for the server, I think it'll help clear up any potential long-lasting salt. And oh yeah, you have to flick the safety off your guns. Don't ask why and it's ALT+CLICK to flick it on or off.

Loot in the surrounding area isn't anything worth writing home to, but I think that placing a safe or two in the burnt out buildings would be great.

Combat's iffy, and fighting NPC mobs is just annoying as they have 100% aim... with shotguns... in /tg/ code. And don't get me started on how fast they fucking become when they bash you with their shotgun.

Jobs are limited as a latejoin - late joining forces you to play as a settler, regulator, raider, scavenger, or wasteland medic; Players that readied up get the enjoyment of playing as a Vault Dweller, NCR Ranger, mercenary, or as a soldier of Caesar's Legion! A big problem with joining is the lack of a clearer job description, since I saw a handful of players ask on what regulators do (they're essentially the cowboys of the Mojave or wherever the server is set in.).

OOC, a gripe that I have is the server's reddit page being primarily filled with Cyrillic.

Seems like a wasted opportunity if they do not include playable ghouls and super mutants

Super mutant is just rad immune hulk, ghoul is nucleation

Ghouls are a race, SMs are NPCs. Well, technically speaking it's just one hostile mob.

Oh yeah, you can QnA me about some of the details in-server.

It's fun, but it's sort of bare in terms of features at the moment. You either get bored in the vault or just thunderdome it out in the wastelands. But I really like the concept and the art direction, and am looking forward to the continued development of it.

I've never been following them but I think it were the Russians who made it, point is? It was the same thing on the Russian one, thunderdome and now it's on every server, got bored fast.

I myself heard of this recently.. I look forward to giving it a go once they refine it some more.

It is good to visit other servers every now and then to prevent SS13 from getting stale. Seeing a wasteland RP server based on fallout sounds like a neato time if you ask me.. Provided the murderbone is kept in check. Otherwise it'll turn out the same way as any other online survival game: Deluded Deathmatch based on luck and popularity.

Server would be great if the same thing didn't happen every round. That being the oversser doesn't let anyone leave or come in and the vault riots as wastelanders brake in.

yeah, it is a fun server but the same things usually happen. It gets boring after a while. Then again i have been exclusively playing raiders and legion army.

I've played Security in the Vault, and I've had more fun than just out in the wasteland. That may be attributed to regularly stealing the Tesla gun to murderise the attackers, but still.

Sidenote:its super easy to hide from vault security.I hid from them all by pretending to be dead.No one even checked if I was dead(even you bolt...shabby security)

One slight problem is the combination of rules that discourage KoS but NPCs that charge to you and assault immediately. I had quite a fun time as a ghoul scavenger convincing a raider to not only not kill me, but to act as my bodyguard but then we got wiped out by turret fire from off screen.

the NPCs are way to strong. I once was critted after 5 punches from a RAIDER NPC. The RP is sub par at best but it has its moments. I once held up a group of 4 people as a wasteland medic because I needed a rad suit. It was fun until a random raider came in and shot and killed everyone but me.

My image of it has improved a bit after a small bit of fun during one round. Firstly I played as a child of Atom and was enslaved by the legionnaires. I spent the entire time being dragged by a guy on a motorcycle but preaching the will of Atom. Once the motorcycle driver deserted and released me, I found my way to the vault and preached the will of Atom on the intercom until they shot a Regulator that entered. In response, I declared an unending crusade on the heathens of the vault but then died of something (I can't remember what exactly).

My second character was a ghoul raider who was searching the ruins west of the vault. I'd taken some hits from a radscorpion but was still up when me and my companion found the xenomorph egg. I fell unconscious so, instead of healing me, my companion decided to throw me at the egg and then into a sealed room until I burst. That was a good death at least, unlike getting randomly gunned down.

I became friends with a squad that took over the store and made it their vault, traders came in and out and we even got a plasma rifle from the trade!
Then the round has ended with us going on the train. TBH this game needs ALOT of rework, not just for the graphics or the weapons, but also for the NPCs.
The code also needs to change, it doesn't really meet the requirements of survivng. TG code is for mass griefing or allahu akbar fanatics.

P.S: If you see a Gunner or a deathclaw, RUN! DON'T LOOK BACK! DON'T ATTACK HIM WITH BULLETS CUZ HE HAS A TON OF HEALTH!

I remember when I was a Medic with a group of random Settlers with Pretty high tech weapons then 2 Deathclaws and a gunner on our flank appeared................I barely survived and at least 5 people died.

I wonder if they added rules in yet?

Last I played, it was a battlefield, with people killing each other non-stop. I do wish to check it out again in due time, but until they have some rules in place to keep deathmatching under control, I'm not gonna bother.

I ditched the Vault and raided the armory, then opened up a market stall in a Legion Fort. Over all, very fun experience.

I believe there's two servers. Memes never change has some rules that are poorly enforced due to admins dealing with broken code whereas Fallout USA is what are you describe.

Update since that was midround.

Some asshole came into my stall and stole one of my armor pieces. I chased him down and he beat me to death. RIP Mojave Salesman

When I'm a trader, I find that recruiting the first raider I find normally works as a way to get a bodyguard. I explained to them how I'd be more useful in the long run and they decided to work with me. They provided some protection until we were destroyed by turrets.
