Battletech (Or how to be completely incompetent behind a 50 ton war-machine)

Post by Focks » 08 Oct 2016, 04:57

A lot of people are familiar with the Mechwarrior series, either through Mechwarrior: Online, Mechwarrior: Living Legends, or older numbered iterations of the series. But fewer people are aware of the series that actually spawned it. Enter Battletech "The Game of Armored Combat"; Battletech is a series that's been running for about 30 years in total, it's a table-top that involves those giant mecha that everyone loves from MW, but it also includes a lot more: spacecraft, tanks, helicopters, infantry, ect. It even has an RPG based in it's universe called, unsurprisingly, Mechwarrior. It takes place in the early 31st Century, humanity has colonized about 600 light-years in every direction around Earth, called the Inner Sphere. The Inner Sphere is made up of a handful of major factions, called Great Houses, and smaller factions either splintered off, in separate circumstance, or in the space beyond, known as the Periphery. Later on an outside force known as The Clans is introduced along with a bevy of new tech to play with along side them. There's over 50 novels, and dozens of sourcebooks and lorebooks about it, so I won't go into detail, but I'll leave a link to the wiki below if it sounds interesting to you.

I've been playing the game for a long time, but haven't actually been able to get a game together for quite a while now, so I figured I'd post here, see who knows about it, who might be interested, and who wants to shit-talk about it. There's been a digital release of the game made in java called MegaMek, it's not an official release, but it's got all the basic rules, and most of the advanced ones built into it as options(I'll leave a link below). It also streamlines a lot of the process, speeding up the game, it calculates all of your rolls and to-hit numbers for you, taking most of the pain associated with playing a traditional table-top out of the equation. If anyone's interested in learning how to play or has any questions about it, feel free to shoot me a message on here, or if people want to organize a pick-up game, or a campaign, or any of that jazz, this be the thread to do so.

See you on the battlefield.

Will do, what timezone are you in, by chance? Like I said in the MWLL thread, I'm GMT -9, so working around that can be a bit of a pain. Got a preferred rule level or era?

Gmt, great Britannia.
I used to play in a merc unit taking jobs and such with a persistent team, was pretty cool.
I handled infantry whilst one handled mechanized and the other battlemechs themselves.
