Only thing I hate about DF is that after a certain amount of time and unit's on screen, my game slows to a crawl.

Yeah Snype happens at a certain point even with God Tier PC's, when that happens the best you can do is to start killing off all the animals in the fort and create an 'atom' smasher. So you either destroy shit with magma or a drawbridge to lighten the load.

It is super odd how it works for my take though, it is both the amount on screen and depends on the save. If I do a 7 hour session ( lazy day ) and only save at the end of the session, the FPS is mostly constant. Only after I return to the save is when I experience major slow down.

Df needs multithreading if we're ever going to see forts past x# of dwarves before fps death occurs. Generally, I'm able to keep my fort population under control through the majority of the male dwarves being conscripted into the military or"militia" in some forts. Fully trained and equipped soldiers are destructive. I had a group of 20 dwarves fight off 120 goblins as they climbed the ramparts, made for a good show as they began climbing on the side of the wall and hacking the goblins off as they reached them. Only pictured gimil smacking orcs off the ladders. I'll generally have 70-100 active soldiers in my fort.

If you're curious to why I don't use females, I rather not have baby meatshields and the males going berserk inside causing a spiral or loyalty cascade

You can A: find what they are attempting to store that is out of their reach and build a path if need be. B: ignore it and not look at the blinky light at the bottom.

Are they working on implementing Multithreading? Thats pretty much the only cap to the game, the FPS that is.

As far as we know, and as I'd Kill for multithreading no word on that yet. Toady would have to set aside probably two-three years to re work the code and make sure everything works properly. What is to be released soon is expeditions, where you can send dwarves out into the world to reclaim artifacts so that stolen crown designed masterfully with wheels of cheese engraved on it shall be returned, secret identities and something to do with artifacts more to come when the release is finally here. Soon™

I feel like at this point, the more he adds, the more he will have to work with when and if he tries multithreading. Thus the mountain of work and time grows.

Yeah.. Though I still like the thought of pillaging elven colonies of their relics and burning them upon attack.

Edit: DF updated a few days ago.

Anyone know how to deal with the magma layer and tell the fire imps to fuck off?

Or just like, deal with fire in general?

Firey dwarves, fires, fire enemies, etc?

well, how do you want to deal with them? Depends on how dwarfy you wanna go. A simple way is to seal off those areas and make a pump stack to a more prefered area. Do seal off the pump stack with a wall once you're done with it.

if you don't spawn in as an adventure mode character and proceed to slaughter the entire town to vent off your salt from having your fort destroyed, you're not okay.

No amount of slaughter beats wrestling a chicken for 10 minutes to become a legendary wrestler

Slaughter is still fun though. until you pause for a second to question if you're a psychopath.

Especially if you cut their limbs off and watch them try to crawl away...

The real question is what is more fun? Catching a chicken and breaking its neck when you're done or watching a town attempt to take you down as you backpedal and slowly erase everything they've ever known and loved. :creepy:

Then let rise the devil chicken as you pluck the eyes out of anyone who stumbles upon your turf and learn necromancy.

Is it bad to say that I wouldn't be surprised if DF's insane modders have already made a mod that does this?

Modders? Maybe the chicken part but you can learn necromancy in the game already from what I remember reading.

Yeah, I know.
Just saying, the modders of DF are something else.

Once the Dwarf Fortress Developer gets to the point where he feels the game is finished, I'm pretty sure there'll be some cult-following sort of group who'll create multithreading, especially since it'll be seen as one of the most technologically advanced simulators of the 21st century in the future. That might be in 50, or 100 years time, but you know, we'll eventually get there.
