Dirty Marine tricks

Post by ThePiachu » 05 May 2018, 10:25

So, what are some dirty Marine tricks that you've seen?

Simplest one I've seen is putting explosive traps on tunnels. It's pretty easy to miss those and detonate them with one's face. Luckily most of the times you don't have Marines waiting for you, so you don't die.

Using dropships as a trap is pretty standard almost. Either by calling it up if a Queen doesn't lock it, or better yet - manually flying it up or down after a handful of xenos board it. I've seen it on surface, as well as after the Alamo assault has started - some pilot tried to bait a few xenos onto the ship to drop them off at the planet.

The most clever trick I've seen was marines dropping a barricade to let a Crusher run in, then putting it back up before it could run away. Instant murder cage.

What other dirty Marine tricks have you seen?
Gaius Caelus

Often playing Researcher, Doctor, or many other ship-side roles
Amadeus the synth
Zig’Reth (The Player of Games)
Mostly droning as Xeno, OFTEN TALKING IN CAPS.

Also, I'm recording!

Locking xenos in the CIC with the blastdoors never gets old, especially when it works.

They are actually very balanced. The difference is ya get marines who think they can rambo a xeno and when they die, they get all salty about it.Mizari 10/12/2018, Xeno mutators

Standing ontop of a mine waiting for a pounce. Xeno pounces on person, stuns both of them, second marine crits the xeno before stun wears off.

Apparently not against any rules as well.

Sounds more stupid than anything, moreso if you end up breaking a bone.

I know as a predator, I could be at full health, be walking around, BOOM, suddenly I broke my foot and now I have to fiddle with splints. Now imagine being a human and having a mine blow up RIGHT UNDER YOU? That sounds painful.

I don't know why ANYONE would want to do that on purpose. Probably more just bad positioning than anything.

Hiding claymores under expended flare packs. Many xenos don't know this trick.

Killing anything above a young/mature runner is more worth it to the success of marines overall than a measly few broken bones, or even an entire PFC lost.

Getting a charging crusher to run into an open plasteel barricade and locking them inside.
Crusher might stomp and slash a few folks but they're still fucked.

If marines thought as a unit, sure. But nobody does. If you do that it means you get broken bones (splints make you way slower) and possibly IB, getting forced to waste time in medical, your robust game cut short.

EDIT: In fact, I've seen this used by Hunters, since it will fuck up the marine and let the xeno kill it if there are no others around to finish him.

Face up, wield your shotgun in two hands so it can't be seen. Bait xenos by opening the chat box so a chat bubble appears. Feed them buckshot at point-blank when they run up to slash you.

This only works against runners/hunters who don't want to outright pounce you. For best results, do this at a corner so you can't be pounced or with someone watching your back to discourage them.

Letting a marine get pounced while you have a shotgun behind them.

Blast them, then your other buddy behind you blasts them.

Works everytime.

Depends if you're lucky or not. I've pounced on someone on a mine with no one near him and he killed me before his own stun went off because 'byond ticks lol'

Early round send one-two people out of your squad to scout out the colony alone. Tell them to not be afraid of death. Its amazing how many solo xenos they can kill if they're robust and have uncompromising aggression. Works well up to T2. If you run into a T3 combat cast, it might very well be the end of the round for them.

Honestly, dropping lasers behind xenos in general is a good tactic.

Putting lasers on top of xenos just makes it easier to run away from the laser. Blocking off a retreat with bombs tends to increase the chance of hitting targets, moreso if they don't see the laser yet as they run away.

This same logic is how I work with OBs, since xenos will always bugger off from an OB the moment it beeps. Anticipating their movements yelds a higher chance of hitting something, or at least blocking off their retreat with a wall of flames.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

I don't play marine but I've had this used against me. Steal predator snares and hold an armed one in your hand. When a runner or a hunter boi pounces on you, you drop and they get snared. They're forced to walking speed and stunned. Pick up your gun and kill them at your leisure.

As a SL get your whole squad to rest on one tile, then tell them all to get up and face the same direction without moving.

You could potentially have 20 marines standing on one tile, and the xenos won't know.
