Should we just rehaul the FUCK outta xenos?

You know, since Disney and Fox are getting on our asses about copyright, one has to wonder why we still try to keep with the original idea of the Xenos here.

Like, since we can't really have the aliens we know and love on here persay, why not just completely replace them with a new alien pest for marines to fight? Maybe even get rid of huggers and make way for a new way for xenos to supply their numbers, considering that the process of infecting marines is boring and annoying. It is more fun to kill shit, after all.

I hate to bring it up, but Mercdonalds has a very interesting concept where, instead of creating more xenos via infections, xenos build structures and are generated from within certain structures, meaning building proper hives is all the more important. Why can't we just do it that way? Then we can have the zerg rushing, squishy xenos that marines clamor for that can respawn really quickly (or not, up to you, really).

What are your thoughts on the creative freedom we might now have, since we can't use ALIENS lore anymore?

Something "Starship troopers-like" in terms of gameplay and mix of Aliens and Starship Troopers lore. All that is needed is to change sprites for something original, or mixed and change description of everything. Replace facehuggers with new caste "cerebro" that can probe alive marines and take knowledge from them at random. Maybe replace facehuggers with bugs like cortical borer (just imagine something like that on combat server... Neat and great way to entertain dead players).

Only lore is problem? Rest is fine?

IMO I would love a species that uses dead marine corpses to generate new aliens, like necromorphs, but it uses corpses able to be defibbed only, maybe increase defib timer as it benefits both sides, that way you are allowed to have fun and kill stuff.

I would absolutely love this. Capturing is boring, guarding hosts is boring, being in pain crit while captured is boring, nest delay after breaking out is annoying, vored while stunned and then infected is just frustrating. I'd rather we scrape the whole host shit and let xeno kill stuff.

Corperate Mercs use Xeno-sprites bug refer to them as 'zerganids' and said benos use combinations of both of those factions in gameplay

I myself had a similar idea involving the collection of biomass, where dead bodies can be recycled into marital to spawn more aliens.

So instead of having to worry about capturing, infesting and then GUARDING hosts, you just have to focus on collecting the dead and bringing it back to a recycler to top off your stockpile of biomass

Basically CorpMercs idea, but the corpses can also be devoured by high acid xeno to add its biomass into the hive as well. I fucking love playing xeno there.

I think if we're already being bugged over the copyrights we might as well just use this as an oppurtunity to completely do away with all the shit that the vast majority of players despise and have a good time. Collection of biomass sounds like a great idea.

Maybe do away with the Queen in her current incarnation since most people find her agonizing to fight and kill and incompetant players are an ever present problem.

Interesting ideas, but its more likely someone would make a new server with this kind of theme over a already established one changing its whole format.

A fresh take on CM would be nice but I don't think it's viable at this moment. So much can be done to improve current CM.

The life cycle of the xenomorph is more interesting and has more drama potential than the the arachnids.

True, but since we can't QUITE call them xenomorphs anymore, why not take advantage of that to go off lore and make them more...

it seems like the community's concerns are just dismissed whenever we try to discuss a xenos overhaul. It's fine to tell us that "changes are coming" but I think it would be best if we're told what those changes are, and what the expected due date for them are.

I think it would be interesting to see xenos spawned from buildings. Marines dying to spawn in an alien is an interesting dynamic, but the result for gameplay is that it takes players out of the game... Resulting in a significant part of your time on the server being spent watching other people play. (Yes, skill can reduce how frequently you die. No, it isn't JUST based on skill, and you will inevitably have the odd round where something takes you down early)

It's a nice idea and certainly refreshing but would a complete rehaul involving many new sprites and mechanics be worth it instead of just switching names to make the game more copyright-friendly?

Have some random bullshit name for them that the Preds use that fits their language. Let the Marines either come up with a species name during the OP or have WY give them an official noncanon designation, like "Species PX-597" or something that the Marines can discover during the OP or by raiding the WY CL's office. Introduce or change around castes to make the game fun and interesting while being Alien-like.

We could use something similar to Starcraft 2 you know the Zerg that genetically modifys creatures and maybe turns them against their original race using again a base like building the contains a pool that the aliens can throw captured marines into that will convert them sound good?

tbh making a alien race akin to the necromorphs would be fucking BEAST. Like, instead of having facehuggers, you can have a caste / mob that goes through a process on dead bodies to infect and resurrect the dead into the swarm. The queen idea can still remain, but instead of a physical entity you fight you could make it more akin to someone playing a Starcraft game. The "queen" is now a purely psychic entity and they see the map purely through their own swarm or such, and the mechanic around gathering biomass can be used by the "queen" to use special abilities, like healing, instant infection of a corpse, hulking out a fellow swarm-mate, or piling biomass together to make beefier and stronker castes. The possibilities are immeasurable and it'd be a breath of fresh fuckin' air.
