Taken from a good round as a Carrier:

This is a reason why you want Carriers in your hive.

While I'm not gonna diss my boy Carrier, I need to say that the marines in the video, especially the ones at Cargo LV, are either really really shit (like seriously, 3 dudes getting caught by one easy to see not even hidden resin trap ?), or are in a state that you can just sit outside as a Carrier/drone with eggs and huggers and the hive can drag them back for you to infect.

The biggest weakness of Carrier, is that you don't have anything to deal with already infected marines running it down. Are you gonna drag your slow and squishy ass to them and try to slash which will cause so little damage that it's not even worth the click; or attempt a tackle that don't even have that high of a chance/duration in the first place ? If I can only have one Drone T2, I will have a decent Hivelord over a good Carrier without a doubt. Hivelord can make escape for the hive, can stall to ensure that escape, and can just nullify a flanking path for a long time with thick resin wall spam. Hivelord tunnels can also help with moving eggs and huggers to the front, and I'm willing to bet that a Hivelord + 1 drones with tunnels will out transport eggs vs a Carrier + 2 drones without a tunnel.

Yeah, Hivelord has great utility through the round (unless they are shit and just build crappy mazes that slow down xenos and get them killed). I'm all for getting both ASAP though - having at least one of each is more important to the hive than having any other T2 really.

Good video, but carries are in a pretty sorry state generally. I miss the days of a lone carrier being something super scary to my squad.

Also you should never ever be caught by a resin trap, super obvious and easy to run past

Apologies.

But I'm not seeing anything impressive in this video. It's just a regular Carrier doing regular Carrier stuff.

You had me thinking you were going to show a Carrier hugging like TEN MARINES after one Screech or something.

Maybe one day...

We definitely had a higher than average amount of people captured and huggered in that game, but yeah, nothing too fancy.

I remember once on ice there was a 1 tile wide corridor made of resin that the marines didn't break and started walking through. It was heaven, I got about 6 marines hugged in a row.

Tip as Carrier:

-Don't try to hugger combat too much, you're actually really squishy.
-Refill traps after people get caught, Marines are dumb and assume they're empty now
-Never use the throw ability, it's legitimately useless.
-Actually transport eggs to the frontline, it allows any combat caste to do a quick drag to an egg.
-Lay traps in well worn paths but also hidden, if you stick like 20 of them in some obscure building marines never walk through then it ain't gonna do much.

Hmm, I heard of probably the only good strategy for throwing huggers - tossing them over baricades under boiler gas. They might recover before the gas dissipates and there is slim chance some dumb marine will walk within a hugger pounce range before seeing it.

If you've overextended and marines are chasing you, just start throwing them out behind you as you run. They'll always stop to kill them, and sometimes FF each other in the process, and it can buy you time to get away.

I throw mine a tile out from cades when no one is manning them then run up and slash the cade. Marine runs up to defend as i retreat and gets hugged.

But biggest asset is early round being the big daddy egg ferry. Works well if the hivelord has their shit together with tunnels

Throwing is useless in almost every scenario except for some instances of area denial, otherwise hugger combat and TRAPS.

Carriers are nice but alot of carriers need to understand that throwing the facehuggers are USELESS. Its best when the queen screeches or a marine gets neuro'd. You walk in and slap a big boy facehugger on the marine and if the xenos are smart they'll drag that marine back

I wish throwing worked if it actually connected and hit a marine.

isn't that literally the only reason most carriers that try it think the throw ability's there? I mean, I know if they could do that Carriers would probably be the most dangerous thing on the battlefield since they can just empty their hugger reserve to incapacitate an entire squad long enough for them to be dragged off by the rest of the hive, but still.

I heard it used to be that you could throw huggers and they would stick. Heck, that's what the Ancient Carrier text refers to I believe.

Yeah back in the day you could throw a facehugger and it'd immediately latch onto a marine. Fun days.

Maybe bring it back but only if the hugger directly connects mid-air, and also give it a big long cooldown?

bargain basement knockoff carrier tactic to pull if youre stuck as a drone: pull xeno bodies around and plant eggs under them, the xeno corpse sprite goes over the egg sprite

I still think people underestimate just what a carrier can bring to the hive. They can transport several eggs at once. (Your not always going to have a tunnel to get from point A to B.) and they can greatly reduce the risk in capturing marines since they can infect while on the frontlines. Allowing their unconscious bodies to be easily killed brought back to a secure location with minimal risk to the Xenos or the host.
