Bling's Ancient Book of Tips

Post by blingx3 » 14 Sep 2018, 06:11

Hello everyone, I'm blingx3. I've been playing CM for around the year now and have been drowning myself in the xeno side even if the xeno side has no available slots I just ghost and wait to be a larva. That means I have spent many many hours observing the battlefield and I thought I'd share my observations and tips. You're completely justified to disagree with me, and I'd love to read your thoughts and read your tips as well.

drones:
1- always ask for leader star at game start with recovery pheromones, beg if you have to.
2- Never double door, which seems like an obvious thing, but sadly still done.
3- Never put secure nests near the queen, Never ever ever.
4- talk to the other drones, drones should always coordinate, one should be a hive drone, one should be at front line, one should evolve.
5- Coordinate pheromones at the front lines. ancient and elders should emitter pheromones and younger ones shouldn't, and should use there plasma for weeds and other buildings purposes.
5- Put eggs near the front lines, this is extremely important yet ignored very much.
6- you're not a combat cast.
7- you're not a combat cast.
8- you're not a combat cast.
9- don't body block combat casts.

Hunters:
1-Do not hunt alone, pairs have higher chance of killing and maiming marines. also higher livability chance.
2- Do not hunt as a young hunter, you're guaranteed to die at the hands of a smug marine with Buck shots.
3- Always ask for a star from the queen and gather runners and hunters in a pack to become a pheromones beacon. Pack hunting is rarely used but highly effective.
4- Don't get greedy.
5- Don't go against shotgun wielders, and if you do eliminate them first.
6- As ancient you're capable of taking on 4-5 marines at a time, if you're mobile enough and skilled enough, yet do not let this fool you, ancients die, so will your dreams.
7- Hit marines back lines, and look for medics dragging wounded alone.
8- Use your cloaking ability, it's very underrated.
9- if you're coming against multiple marines the chance that you'll kill them is slim, so aim for limbs as you'd be at a higher chance for DE-limb.
10- hit dat groin for the da memes. ( no ERP intended)

Runners:
1-The tasks that a runner should do are as follows, Scouting (keep tight communications with the queen and leaders about marine locations, you're the hives eyes and ears). Back line supply cutter, make brave lone wolf marines regret there choices (cut off there limbs and watch the tears and salt). run between marine groups shoot each other (ultimate satisfaction). Move hugged hosts back to secure nests.
2- Shotguns are your eternal enemies, never face a host with a shotgun, they will one shot kill you, and if you must, kill those first.
3- you're spongy af, so don't be a front line combat because you can't take much brass, and if you want to be a front line combat runner, try to shove and drag marines between the charges and acid clouds.
4- you're USELESS as a young and mature runner, you don't have the speed nor the defense, when you reach elder or ancient at least you'll be fast, reaching elder usually takes 15 minutes or so, don't be impatient.
5-Use your speed to your advantage, one runner can attack from so many sides at one minute, confuse them and make them shoot each other in the confusion.
6-be racist towards warriors and tell them they're lazy.

More to come soon.....

I beg to differ on points 6, 7 and 8, at least in a way.

A combathugging drone can be a massive help, doubly so if there's no carrier, since you get guaranteed long stun if you connect. Sure, risky move, but it's very worth if you pull it off, and just dropping the hugger will make ungas re-think their target.

Hello !
thank you for puting some feedback. as I've seen ancient drones seem to have the most success doing this as they tend to be faster and have more health, combat hugging usually happens when an offensive is happening AKA queen screech which, I'd not recommend it if the drones were younger.

Lurker packs work pretty well but I think that the leadership should probably go to T3s that are stronger such as a rav or a crusher.

More tips for Drones and Drone-castes:

- Prioritise weeding the colony - you have 25+ minutes where you own the map, make the most of it. Weed everything, slash all the apcs, break all the lights. Then retreat and do the same in caves or wherever. Marines will be too bored to clear all weeds, and your lurkers and runners will love you for the patches of weeds left everywhere.
- If there is a Carrier, pocket transfuse them. A Carrier fed by Drone plasma can lay a tonne of traps and turn the map into a minefield. Never not do it
- On Big Red, Hivelords should prioritise building tunnels between the three labs. Virology is essentially inaccessible once the Marines land since you have to go through the colony to get to it. Prioritise getting that tunel up first, then make more.

DISGUSTING.

You can jump from a bridge and fly for two seconds before hitting the floor and dying, but we wouldn't call you a bird, a drone can combat hug and kill marines, but that's not what drones are for and it's a waste of a drones potential.

Drones are arguably one of the best combat classes going.

If you're saying that a caste should specifically play in a single role or its a waste of time, you're really limiting your tactics.

Hell we won a game with 12 drones just yesterday, outright stomped the marines so hard they didn't even cross the river.

Drone life is the best life. There is no other T1 with such utility, flexibility and upgrade progression.

I can go from destroying squads on front lines, to building a hive in the click of a finger. No other caste can do that.

Apparently it was Reno, so it didn't count. Everyone knows Reno is unrobust.
