Lodging on LV

Post by Symbiosis » 16 Nov 2017, 15:55

Question for you fellow Preds AND Elders.

The Lodges on LV are kind of limited. Either the southwest (which is common Marine knowledge) or risking it in the Hive (which has a bunch of bored Xenos with nothing else to do but try to fight you if they find you)...

So what's the answer?

Do we keep building them - and dealing with the resultant large impact we have on the round? Or do we let them go the way of Sulaco, at least where LV is considered.

Maybe the players will learn to stop rushing the Lodge... if we keep killing large amounts of them.

I personally do not believe they'll learn, heh. Thoughts?

As an oldie Predator, indeed. Now Lodges are severely limited strictly towards certain areas either lodge is southwestern mainly. At times, due to which is quite loved the "Fog" effect or wall sorta limits our capabilities surprisingly being if you were to head down either one side "Xeno Side" or "Marine Side". There usually is high activity of xenos on other side/Cave side of LV hard to actually make a lodge as well due to additional xeno structures spawned in, and activity in that area. The colony side, which is accessed via only few xenos but mainly marines; marines if they do have a scouting operation they must face and usually scout our Lodge Area.

Originally, the abandoned sand temple across from river was a popular hot spot for a lodge area though this was before the Fog/Pre-built Hives were a thing, aswell as making a effective Lodge due north eastern in that jungley area. Southwestern mainly nice spot being out of everyone's general area or fighting however Meta knowledge marines will always or even xenos check southwestern, in fact xenos a swell being if I recall there there's at least one or two possibly three in the area unfortunately. It being close to LZ2 aswell sorta encourages marines who's orders to scout check that area. Back then, it was interesting having to fight for your lodge or showing fear towards xenos or even marines. Now a days, "Lets raid their Lodge/Kill All predators", when time comes.

Xenos have been a pain in the ass, now days they yes abuse their abilities whether considered legit or non powergaming or "Its part of the system/feature" or even RNG. For instance, they like I made high remarks before xenos will cheese preds because they know they can and the predator can't do nothing about it really or realistically, due to them able to just practically respawn and cheese once more or get others to do additionally. They do know the benefit of killing or infecting such but do so just because they highly know "Tackle spamming the pred can't do nothing" "Pouncing off screen with dozens with high speeds" and another, "Is cloaked, still gets tackled, and slashed to death", and the one which now a days is a pred killer, "Crusher one tackle and one stomp".

To be fair xenos now a days have been real shitty, some sorta legit but there's reasoning why RP with is highly lessen due to that fact. Just prey in our mindset, can't really stop the Xeno Cheese even with our buffs, some nerfs or even the tackle *coughs* "RNG" . Xenos will always be like that, expect always anything or them doing such now a days. I personally prefer hunting Marines least with them they can get yah or you could counter it while as Xeno it differs but rather not get too depth with that.

I agree with all of shyguys point to be honest. Southwest would be pretty dope, and decent if marines didn't just meta rush it.

I think the best course of action is to get a fresh verdict on whether lodging is an obligation, and if so, if it MUST come before the hunt. The only post that says this is in the General Information for Predators thread, made by /N in mid-2016 (so extremely outdated and pre-fog).
Besides that, we can probably avoid lodging until the fog is down or make a mobile lodge, moving it as we hunt in new areas (unfortunately mobile lodges are kind of lame as far as style and decorations since they have to be, well, mobile).

On LV, most of the logical camp sites seem to be more westwards than east. Many predators tend to build in the southwest jungle temple, but it is very uncommon for them to exploit the nearby jungle pocket that is connected to said temple.

I find it a very good spot to set up due to the vines that block the view of marines, and in the event of a lodge attack, the bottleneck makes it impossible for marines to effectively surround it to attack. All you need is a single plasteel and metal barricade at the least and it'll be quite secure for the most part.

There is also the nearby jungle as well, full of little pockets that are covered up by vines. It wouldn't make the best lodging, but I bet they wouldn't be as explored as commonly as the temple itself is. And if you have a lot of excess resources, you could always just build a temple from scratch and go up to the furthest corner of the west along the fog and build somethin there. Rarely would marines ever go there, and if there is a xeno tunnel, just blow it up so they can't sneak inside easily.

Another spot that I myself discovered is the old shack near LZ2 as well. Like the jungle pocket near the southwest temple, it doesn't take a lot to set up defenses. A single plasteel gate and some barricades to replace the wooden barricades near the windows and you have a secure little spot. Most marines won't check it in my experience, at least not until the late game when the fog falls (unless they are really dedicated to their recon and scout every inch of the map).

But... Here is the thing. If you are going to build a lodge, you need to be SUBTLE about it. Whenever I see a bunch of strange constructions near the southwest temple or wherever the lodge is set up, it is a very clear giveaway that something lives there, and marines are going to check it regardless if there are predators or not (could be survivors for all they know). DON'T make it obvious, and you'll reduce the chances of sudden marine raids.

It also helps to, you know, not roar at them mindlessly when they get near the lodge. Sometimes, the best defense is silence and stealth.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

Somewhere I believe Apop clarified at some point lodges were required and should be established. Can't recall, as previous Staff Member and Long Time Predator...somewhere or might be in a thread somewhere where in comments make sure to make a lodge somewhere.

Personally, I hate lodges. Its a waste of time in my opinion that you’re required to do, and are required to defend it, which usually leads to killing a ton of marines. It wouldn’t be an issue if we had more spots to lodge and would add something nicer to it, but its just become a nasty requirement.

Get a pickaxe or something to mine and head to the top NW corner of the map, strike the Earth and create a cavern-like lodge which can be modified at your will and it will be 90% of the times out of combat and intruders.. marines do not go that far and neither xenos because it's a dead-end hive-wise and will not encounter any tall hosta around.

All the times I've been in LV I did this and got no issues.

A pair of traps here and there, some dead ends hallways, some sandstone doors and you're done.
