Lodging materials.

Post by Nick123q23 » 03 Jan 2018, 08:11

This has been talked about before and I'm not sure whatever came of it, but we have a small problem,

Quite a few predators don't bother to lodge, and the ones that do lodge make basic accommodations and never use it ever again.

But, suppose the ship comes with stacks of lodging materials in it's storerooms, such as sandstone, wood, metal and plasteel much like how marine engineers start with metal on the Almayer, lodging might be encouraged, and better lodges might come out with more access to resources we don't have unless we cannibalize the colony for it.

While I certainly enjoy building a good lodge when I play predator, I'm sure I'm with the majority when I say on some maps its much more difficult than others. LV was for a long time the obvious standout in terms of lodging due to the easy access to wood, metal, sandstone and a wide array of tools. Though this was lessened slightly with the introduction of the fog wall, its still a great example.

Enter Ice and Big Red. Though they have a larger number of potential lodging sites, resources are generally much harder to come by. Which leads to predators lodging up in an area without really changing it. And if you don't put much effort into a lodge you're naturally less inclined to regroup there and/or defend it. I know this isn't a suggestion thread and we're not a democracy if it was, but I'd wholeheartedly support the addition of some (even basic) lodging materials to the hunting ship. There's certainly no shortage of places to put it, given that it has dedicated storage areas and I believe being able to make a lodge their own would encourage the yautja players to stick around and defend the place, rather than just bailing when X discovers it or Y happens.

I think it would be nice if we had some building supplies to start with, instead of having to rush storage buildings planetside for supplies before survivors or xenos get them.

I myself like to make a modest, homey lodge, a place to rest when I need to recharge. However, sitting at the lodge all day is boring, and we come down to hunt, not play house. So, oftentimes the lodge gets pretty quiet, with only the odd trip here and there when we are able to reach it without anything getting in the way (provided it is still intact and not melted by asshole xenos).

Honestly, it would be nice if there were a few other incentives to form a lodge other than as a simple resting place. Maybe some special field equipment that you could set up in there to assist in your hunting like sonar systen, recharge station or medical station or some shit like that would be nice. Give you more reason to value it and want to protect and hide it, you know? Because right now, it is just a little side activity to do while you wait for the xenos to mature into the good stuff.

Field equipment to set up in there would be nice along with some supplies to start off with.

Over the years, of the new maps, and even controversial Fog Effect, pre-built Xeno hives/Massive Hive lodgings. It has become tougher, being now at times if no humans xenos would with entire swarm come in and either tackle crazily and fuck your lodge up before round start (Depends if yer solo predo or which map might be on) at times sucks. I do still like salvaging part or aspect but for instance little history lesson for our new generation predators. Long time ago, distant colony....LV 624 use to be highly lodged colony. A time in which xenos didn't stand a chance and didn't realize their true potential or of some. Predators would break into the old Predator catacomb to either make that their lodge fending off the swarm and at most part victorious and bountiful from many stacks of sandstone. If all else failed, many predators lodged north eastern being not many notice or aware of that sector of times. Smaller lodge to massive gladiator wall was the grand times. North western near cargo dock area, back when predators were capable of mining were good times. Sandstone for me was the go to or the one item I'd go for. It be cool for red sandstone just a sayin for big red but yeah getting supplies is tough now a days. Ice Colony unless you know where they spawn and you are at round start you can make a smallish one but the common lodge there is south eastern the crashed yautja ship which due to xenoness or from memory was sealed off at some point. Marines can Meta all they want but what really is a real killer is the fact previous xenos or even ghosts waiting to become xeno use that knowledge to hunt em or find the lodge by following predator or ghost around until they find the lodge. With marine, once their dead they are dead however xeno can get back into the game easily if there is a larva but don't want dig to much in that. If we were given additional supplies that be nice, we use to get like a thing of wood or something previous ship, and it make that storage area due northern of the pred ship of use being the storage area feeling rather empty.

Honestly I just want stuff I can decorate/customise a lodge with. Most I do now is make a table w/ stool and a computer frame to make the lodge look 'lived in'

But there is a ton of more important stuff the devs could be doing so I can wait happily
Commander Joseph 'Goliath' Clancy, occaisonal Charlie SL. Widowed father of three. Sufferer of PTSD and extremely Australian.
Corpswoman Judith 'Mèrci' Clancy, quiet, caring daughter looking out for her siblings.
Warrant Officer Emile Clancy, Strict ex-police chief, now a tired CMP.
Xenomorph Queen 'Pandinus' ruler of the Alpha Hive. "I want more children!"
'R'ka Us'Tribi' Serpent Trapper, hateful predator.

A bit more a material update or rework probably be the case. Possibly making it more unique standpoint, specific material which can be due to skill system can be crafted by a Predator makin it sorta snowflakey, *COUGHS* I mean unique.

I mean we got skulls and stuff, dismembering marines sorta like makin it a horror scene such. Did at some point make a skull lodge/throne. But yeah, us predators aren't really of top priority sorta like on the list of list under optional page. Quite nice lately been updated quite a bit in a while. More substance, perhaps would be somethin maybe of re-sprites or reworks or additions. Lodge work such, makin it more defendable somehow mechanics perhaps for instance withstandin OB's/Marine rushes, constant acidic sieges from xenos, and etc. But that be up for another discussion later date. Do agree we could get more stuff be nice kinda comical which could be Predator only makes it kinda nicer and more bit more immersive.

We finally do have some building supplies in the ship. A sheet of sandstone, two sheets of metal, a sheet of plasteel, and an autolathe.

Though, I wish we had more sandstone, this is a great step forward
