Plasma Pistol: Its Place In The Hunt

Post by Steelpoint » 07 Jun 2018, 05:23

I've had conflicting opinions on this subject, so I'm bringing it here to hopefully clear the air.

The Plasma Pistol is a recent addition to the Predators arsenal, the value of the weapon is a separate issue. My main issue is the weapons validity in terms of when to use it. Is it honourable or dishonourable to use?

The initial thought would be for it to be dishonourable, as it is a plasma weapon. However taking the weapon into context, it lacks the raw ""lethality"" of the Plasmacaster in that the weapon only fires medium power rounds. Yet at the same time, the salt inducing and extraordinarily effective Spike Launcher is technically considered a honourable weapon to use, meaning you could exclusively use the Spike Launcher to hunt other prey. In comparison the Plasma Pistol seems more tame.

So my question is simple, is the Plasma Pistol a honourable or dishonourable weapon to use?

This will need an Elders word as final say on the matter so we may not get a response until one of us uses it and a player report is generated from it.

My own thoughts is that it falls under the catagory of dishonourable weaponry like the plasmacaster and rifle and can only be used on unworthy prey or in situations like a lodge defence.

Personally I am enjoying the use of my scims and haven't really picked it outside of one round to test it out. Seems quite good for taking down walls quickly. But I have no use for it at present

In terms of viability, its very effective as a deterrent against Xenos and Marines, a wall of rapid fire plasma shots will ward off many people. The weapon is also fantastic on maps like Prison where maneuverability is limited as the gun can rapidly destroy even reinforced walls. Granting you a great degree of movement.

On that note, are there any Elders at this point?

Oh yeah it looks really viable as it is useful. I just prefer the oomph of the scims right now so I can't take anything else. With the movement speed changes we've had I've stopped using the Heavy Armour because need for speed.

As for Elders? I guess Apop and Rahl still are counted. I -think- Jamie is an elder and then the previous elders who are all MIA

Would have to agree on it being a dishonorable weapon, to be consistent with all our other plasma weapons.

I feel this is one of those "fix the code to include rules for updates like this" situations, like, just outright stating ranges weaponry are dishonorable in honour duels, asides thrown weapons like spears of course.

When I suggested the idea for pistols (which may or may not be why we have them, I dunno), I imagined them as self defense weapons, not as hunting weapons.

Sure, they don't do a WHOLE lot of damage, but it wouldn't really be good sport to just backpeddle while spraying down plasma on your target. The best kills are done with a big melee weapon of your choice, drenching yourself in the blood of your prey.

So... No, self defense only, bad hunting weapon.

Official staff policy for this is to treat it like the other plasma based weapons, that's NGGJamie's exact wording. I forgot to post this in here, because y'know, it's his job to deal with this stuff, but uh I guess he's too busy ignoring the forums to do that.
