Monoo's CO App

Player name you use the most:

Jools Kirby

Make a list of links to all of your applications and (job)ban appeals, including whitelist and staff apps, within the last year. Also, provide "Ban reason; Verdict" beside each (job)ban link:

viewtopic.php?f=127&t=7158 - First pred app; denied.

viewtopic.php?f=125&t=9412 - Second pred app; approved.

viewtopic.php?f=87&t=8150 - Jobban; forced to log out at the beginning of the round instead of cryo. (Made sure this won't happen again)

Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines?

Yes

Why should you be whitelisted?

The marines are my favorite part of the server, and leadership is my favorite aspect of playing as a marine. I play SL and XO frequently, but I've also enjoyed Commander quite a bit in the past.

My main goal as a Commander is to let the marines know I'm one of them. I'm approachable. I try to always stay tuned in to the various squad frequencies and get to know the various marines in each squad, and I'm usually available to communicate with them if they need something their BO can't provide. I believe that this strategy of being very open with my underlings also opens the door for more possibilities for RP. I RP a ton as Commander, making sure to go down to the hangar before assaults to wish the marines good luck and encouraging anyone that's been traumatized. It's very fun and builds up a ton of good IC and OOC relations.

Others have said it, but I also don't believe in retreating over every little thing. I like to assess the strengths of different squads, and always have one of the strongest setting up a fallback point for assaults. If the assault goes bad, I encourage them to dig in rather than retreat, and let the xenos break themselves on the defenses. There was a recent round where I stepped in ~25 minutes into the round to find no bridge staff save for one BO. The operation on the ground was seriously fucked up, but once I stepped in and we got more command staff the situation quickly became organized. That's the effect I always hope to have on the marines - to be a source of reassurance rather than confusion.

I Like commanders that actually get involved and wander about to keep moral up on the ship, not just sitting on their arse.

But...

The Saluco has been invaded by bald men, only having armed pulse rifles, and marine underwear. What do you do?

So, business as usual? /s

The very first thing I would do is notify the RO that anyone who goes through their line in underwear is not to be given attachments.

Now, knowing the temperament of said bald men, this will probably be cause enough for a mutiny.

But! My job as commander is to de-escalate these situations. After contacting the RO, I'll make a quick announcement telling people to suit up properly, give the bridge to the XO, or a BO if necessary, and go to the prep rooms myself to address the situation. If things turn bad, I'll request the MPs to give me a hand, but again I don't want to escalate the situation, so I'll ask them to refrain from stuns unless absolutely necessary.

As a commander who has very limited LZs, it is always better to REGROUP than it is to RETREAT, and knowing when the fall back and when to push is vital.

I had many rounds as a marine where an attack failed, and the commander's response is "OH FUCK RETREAT" and the marines just up and run from the planet. Many people are deluded into thinking that the best chance for marine wins is holding the Sulico, but sadly most of the time this fails due to poor planning and overconfidence.

It is far better to fight to the death over an LZ and still have a path to funnel manpower than it is to surrender such vital positions in favor of just camping the warship and thinking that grenade spam into the Rasp will solve your problems.

With that said, how brave are you as a leader Monoo? Are you willing to stand and fight with nothing but 5 bullets and a bootknife, or at you the kinda guy who retreats from the last LZ with 15 perfectly good, heavily armed fighting marines?

Either way ends in failure, but only one shows duty and honor in the face of death.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

Stand and fight!

Any commander that calls a sloppy, disorganized retreat in the middle of a battle for the contested FOB doesn't know their shit. Even if you lose the FOB, you have to bruise the enemy well enough that a fight on the Sulaco will be fought on YOUR terms, with prep time AND the tactical advantage.

When it boils down to saving 3, maybe 4 of those 15 perfectly good marines and having the rest hugged and nested, or having them all die and killing the queen, I'd take the latter, and use my remaining troops to stage a counterattack or defend the hangar while the xenos are still licking their wounds. And I will personally ASSIST, making sure my men know I won't make them do what I wouldn't do myself. Morale, in these situations, is almost more important than manpower.

That's a good enough reply for my vote.

Again, as a marine grunt, I had experienced so many retreats gone horribly wrong due to marines cowering in the drop pod or shuttle, only for a gas attack to happen and kill a number of them, or a queen or crusher to barge in and stun probably 4-7 marines before quickly infecting them and providing them with more alien hatchlings as a result. When a marine exposes their back, it only makes them easier to kill, and if more marines knew this, they'd probably have more marine Majors, or at least more alien minors as the marines keep the aliens at bay while the real non-combatants (doctors, survivors, MT, etc) escape on the pods.

Agreed... not enough people know that retreats actually kill more marines than they save. I really hope this whitelist fixes some of this retreat-happy behavior we've had the misfortune of seeing.
