Xur's Commander App

Post by Xurphorus » 11 Dec 2016, 18:33

Byond ID: Xurphorus

Player name you use the most: Xur 'Ghost' Dergens

Make a list of links to all of your applications and (job)ban appeals, including whitelist and staff apps, within the last year. Also, provide "Ban reason; Verdict" beside each (job)ban link:
viewtopic.php?f=125&t=8983 (Pred App: Accepted)

viewtopic.php?f=127&t=6609 (Pred App: Denied)

I cannot remember any other apps made or appeals for bans.
Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines?

Yes I understand.

Why should you be whitelisted?

Hmm, I believe I should be whitelist because I know the role, I know what it takes to be a good commander. From my experience, and noting that I am one of the few with the most age under my belt with playing CM has lead a good number of Marine related victories. I'm a competent player, and the good number of the CM population knows my OC, respected or not. I am openly honest with staff and players with how I feel about things, and I know that may rub some people the wrong way but at least I'm real about it. Even though I don't play the CO role as much, but I would like to have the Option to play as the role when it calls for it. I can't really say much more for the reason why I should be accepted but I hope I get the votes?

A mutiny is brewing, the aliens are coming up, AND the iron bears are here. What do you do?

Edit: You forgot the yes/no poll

Call for all my loyalists, do not permit the Iron Bears to enter the bridge, explain the situation, and attempt the quell the mutineers with either an Iron fist, or appeal to their fellow patriotism and hate for the Xenos, or Iron Bears if they prove to be hostile.

Honestly, I'd just robust through them all, and await my coming death from the Xenos.

MPs are doing their job and the XO is calling for a select few to stay out of the Bridge for very minor comments, what do you do?
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

As an underling, he makes good command decisions and RPs well. As a commander of Xur, he follows orders and co-ordinates with command well.

Isn't Xur usually considered the CO when he plays a standard anyway?

You know Xur, if you are going to get my vote, I'm going to need to ensure that you are the commander I hope you are, and not the commander I had the displeasure of serving under for so long.

So, lets say your FoB (next to a vital LZ) is under heavy attack. Things are looking pretty bleak, and the marines holding it are suffering from morale shock, some of them begging for a shuttle to be launched to save them. You still have a good number of fighting men holding the swarm back though, and you have more troops waking up and getting their kits put together.

What would your actions be in such a situation?

They keep holding, even if the sitution seems bleak, I will keep the rasp on the ground for an emergency as long as someone doesnt fuck with the controls, and send the newly awaking marines down on the pod for a flank move. Its either make or break with situations like these. If I had an XO I'd lead the flank myself or if the XO is competent I will let him or her do it.

You'll always have my vote, man. Even if you are a bit rash at times, you're dependable. We need plenty of that in this whitelist.

decent, but a bit flawed due to one element: If marines see a source of salvation, they will hide in it.

A dropship on the ground ready to save them? Some marines may break off and hide in it, hoping to get a ride home and leaving their friends to die.

An evac shuttle on the sully during a losing battle? Way, WAY too often do marines end up abandoning their battle brothers to hide in these things, only to end up dying horribly due to a crusher or queen barging in, or worse... A gas attack.

I'm not one to judge how other people lead, but I'm not afraid to express how I feel about their tactics, and having observed the psychology of CM marines, I know how easy it is to assume that one tactic might seem like a good idea on paper until it is put into action... Provided everything goes to plan to begin with, which trust me, shit will hit the fan one way or another, OOCly or ICly.

Still, I suppose I'll give you my vote, since people do respect you and having someone that has the reputation you have in charge may make marines fight harder to impress you and get attention from their "senpai".

Xur is a fantastic SL, when things are looking bleak he takes initiative and tries to unfuck things planetside.
He's pleasant to be around and RP with, however he can get pretty salty if someone screws up.

I haven't seen him as a commander or XO though.

I'll make you a deal: never order FOB at Nexus, ever, and make doping your marines on performance enhancing drugs part of your SOP and you have my vote.

Well we have never been in the same squad more than a few times, and everyone has their off days.

I've been in his squad more than a few times under a myriad of names, and while some days ya he can be more fight than talk, more than three quarters of those times he DOES fight, but encourages his men to move up with him and gets them the supplies they need etc. I can only attest to him a squad leader though, I haven't seen him many times as a CO.

That is true, and I myself was going to comment on that.

Sometimes I think you get so distracted during heavy combat that you forget vital assets like supplies, or get too stuck in during combat and die when you should be leading.

I do view you as a good leader and have looked up to you, and may have even been inspired by you to be a good SL myself. But like all people, we do tend to make mistakes. However, a good leader tries to improve himself and learn from his mistakes.

Are you able to do that Xur? Not just as a Commander, but as a squad leader too?
