Hunter Thames CO Application

Post by NoahKirchner » 18 Apr 2017, 11:37

Byond ID: NoahKirchner

Player name you use the most: Hunter Thames

Make a list of links to all of your applications and (job)ban appeals, including whitelist and staff apps, within the last year. Also, provide "Ban reason; Verdict" beside each (job)ban link: Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines? Yes

Why should you be whitelisted?
I have had rather heavy experience with commander before the whitelist, and know the system of CM intimately. I love to lead as SL and XO and to roleplay as CL, and would like to be able to think that I am at least proficient at keeping men together, and trying to create an atmosphere of roleplay as opposed to silliness among the marines. I cannot assure you that I will not win every round as commander, because I am not the best, but I will take the job seriously every time I choose to play it, and attempt to create a memorable and fufilling round for all involved, human and xeno alike. (<---- Not ordering cheese tactics like calling up the rasputin with only half the aliens on it to meta-win).

(I cannot think of much else to address, but I feel as if the previous paragraph gets the point across for now, and anything else will be answered in questions.)

Yes. Noah can do this, I believe. He basically wrote the book on how to RP as the CL recently, and he's always been a fan of command roles, I don't think I've seen anyone complain about his work as a BO/XO.

Before I start, there's an error with your application, 1st appeal of your job ban isn't accepted. Although, it's denied by none other than Feweh. So, fix it, yeah?

Although, you are indeed not just a fine command officer as well as amazing bugger corporate liaison to my character once a while. You have my +1. For me, roleplay is a huge priority over everything. You have my recommendation to be a Commander.

For people voting, I have been stalking NoahKirchner. I can say that it is safe for you to to vote +1. Why? In OOC he may seem like a shitler baldie. But, in IC, he will take his gameplay more seriously and has improved better over three months.

+1, although you have resulted in many losses under your Command, you are dedicated to the role and do not put up with shittery. You are a great kid in bad need of a haircut, and deserve the spotlight in this role. You're a great Engineer who can fix the SM, and should the MTs be unable to get the SM online and it's about to delaminate, I'd be looking forward to having you fix it yourself.

Question 1: Marines are threatening to mutiny or downrightthe MPs and Bridge Staff because of the many losses created under your command, they are being reasonable and willing to let you step down with little harm, what do you do?

Question 2: You order the Marines to set up a FoB at Robotics to have more access to metal and to be closer to medbay, the Marines are arguing with this order by stating Nexus is bigger (this argument is meta), how do you handle this ICly and what will you do if this order is disobeyed?

Question 3: MPs are running around with lethals during a Green event, you have the option of detaining them with your disclipline tools, or simply letting it go.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Question 3: MPs are running around with lethals during a Green event, you have the option of detaining them with your disclipline tools, or simply letting it go.
Yes, I do sorely need a haircut.

Answer 1: I'd try to talk my way out of it. Bring up the fact that, if they mutiny, chances are that this is going to be declared a rogue ship by High Command, but also ensure them that I'm taking their criticisms into account and that I am doing everything I can to get the operation moving again. If they disagree, and wish to mutiny regardless of the chances of being declared rogue, I would then be faced with an interesting choice. Stopping them and maintaining control of the bridge using force would likely end in a weakened marine force, but if they have previously been too hostile and are planning on jailing the bridge crew (and assuming that they are not too numerous), I would likely try to jail them for a moment and address them when they don't have guns pointed at me.

If they are generally non-hostile and just want the best for the marines, I would try to come to an agreement with them (Which very well may involve relinquishing my command), and seeing if we can get something worked out that makes everybody work more effectively, because really, without respect between the marines and the command staff, nothing is going to get done. If I can show them that I am reasonable, we are more likely to come to a solution.

Question 2: I would probably not use robotics in the first place, because it is strategically unsound and tends to lead to metarushing the fog, but I digress. I would attempt to convince them that robotics is the superior FOB because this is, first and foremost, a recon mission. Furthermore, in the event that we have injured colonists, the pod is far better for medical evacuation. I would remind them that we do not know if there is a hostile presence planetside, and that the drop pod is far more reliable for quick incursions and quick evacuations, which will be useful when dropping into unknown territory. Robotics would then be the most reasonable FOB, because it is closest to LZ2.

If they disobeyed, I'd do what I normally do. After an incredible number of warnings and threats, I would offer all still loyal marines in whatever squad (charlie, for argument's sake), the chance to return to the Sulaco for an ID change to a different squad. When they arrived, I would give them a new ID, thank them for their loyalty, and send them on their way. Anybody actively refusing to change squads, I would arrest when they come up to the Sulaco, and forcefully change their ID to a new squad and replace their radio, to cut them off from their SL. I would then arrest the SL. (Note that I would ahelp beforehand to ensure that this is alright, but I've done it twice before and it has worked fine). If that was not possible, there is really not much I can do. I can't arrest an entire squad, but I can cut them off from resources until they agree to come around. I have previously (granted, in a round similar to this, where an FOB squad wanted to push the river instead), gotten the CE to turn off a specific squad channel so they cannot communicate, cut them off from supplies, and have declared them rogue until they come around and start listening to orders. If that does not work, then there is not anything else I can do.

If it's the entire marine force, I would be sure to report this to high command as best as possible, and keep trying to get any loyal troops I have to follow through, in hopes that people listen. But at that point, it's a losing game.

Question 3: (By green event I assume you mean an RP event where there's not really supposed to be shooting)

I would attempt to talk them down best I could, because weapons are rather threatening, and at least get them to put away the bigger weapons, and make sure that they have an M4a3 at most. If they refuse, I would then detain them.

Noah's a pretty competent Corporate Liason, I haven't had any "negative" experiences with them either. Though I haven't really seen them as a command role, it really doesn't matter, even if they're not a good commander doesn't mean their not fit for the role? Honestly I find it sometimes odd people care THAT much on what orders they give, as long as they roleplay properly and don't abuse their whitelist. +1.
Don't fuck this up Noah.

Ive always wondered who Hunter Thames was.

Great SL so +1 from me, since SL is even harder to Command as than any other role.

You certain changed a lot over the months I known you, starting off as a prankster and now growing up into a rather mature fellow.

I still remember when I was a fresh CO who spent time berating you for wasting military supplies on personal projects, all the while men were dying on the planet... Good times.

I assume you know how to properly prepare for a mission, yes? Why don't you enlighten me on your early round activities, yes?

My early round activities are pretty standard I would imagine. While I don't write anything down, I do think of a gimmick for the scouting squad before the round starts, and as I see the the general tone of the round, I plan for briefing in my head. If people are serious, I know that I can have a quick briefing with no nonsense, if they aren't, I know that I really have to try to establish some sort of positive connection with the marines through they drop. Either through dialogue or attempting to appear competent enough to lead them.

As I gauge this, I check the squad monitors. I keep an eye on how full the squads are, and keep in mind which squads have the most engineers for later planning an FOB. I then ask for which specialists took what, and choose which squad sets up the FOB. I then take the second most equipped squad and put them on telecomms or engineering, and I keep the other two for gimmick squads (most people use them to scout). (Unless it's ice, then I send one to topside engineering too :D.)

As I said earlier, gimmick squads which most people use as scouting squads. I'll give them a minor objective to do, like making contact with the colony's administrators on first drop, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the colonists, maybe recovering the manifests in research, the IA dome, and engineering. Really whatever's on the top of my head, and I do it to try to encourage some RP while giving the scouting team something more to do than walk around.

I treat briefing like public speaking. I love public speaking IRL, and I normally wing it with a rough outline of what I'm going to say in my head. It's essentially what I do here, and I try to keep it as dramatic and colonial marine-ey as possible. I make one last ditch effort to ensure a mutual respect between the command staff and the SLs, and then the round's started. Woo.

I'm not the best fan of winging it mid-speech, but if you are a fast typist, we shouldn't have too much issue.

Other than that, I believe I can trust you in a position of power. Mainly because you matured a lot, and in such a position, maturity is a MUST. We already seen what happens when you have manchildren in command of a whole platoon before... In fact, that sometimes still happens in CO-less rounds, where XOs take over the ship. It isn't pretty...

Just remember, if you can't win the war, lose with grace and dignity.

I know that a lot of people prefer that I write it down, but I am a rather fast typist (unfortunately my shift key broke recently, so I am not typing as fast as I can because I has to rebind caps lock to shift, and am now relying more on the right shift key), so speed isn't an issue. It is more of a personal preference, and whenever I write things down beforehand (I occasionally do it afterwards), I tend to mess up during briefing because I'll sometimes make decisions based on briefing behavior, rowdy marines, etc.

I honestly didn't know you were Hunter Thames. I came in here ready to say how this guy, whoever he was, was one of my favorite squad leads at the moment, because he's competent and not too assertive or memey. Well shit whaddaya know it's Noah

Anyway, like I said you're one of my favorite people to see in command roles already. You get an easy +1 from me.

Thank you kindly :D. I try to not be super drill sergeant whenever I lead as SL, and I plan on carrying that over to CO. Annoyingly strict COs just piss everyone off and get nothing done.
