Scorpii's CO Whitelist App

Post by Scorpii » 15 Aug 2017, 19:38

Byond ID: Scorpii

Player name you use the most: Christian Mooris

Make a list of links to all of your applications and (job)ban appeals, including whitelist and staff apps, within the last year. Also, provide "Ban reason; Verdict" beside each (job)ban link:
  • NONE
Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines?
  • Of course.
Why should you be whitelisted?

The primary reason is that I'm pretty good at making sure I get what my men need, as an SO, as a PO, or any other role that I take. If I don't know OOC how to do something, I always figure it out on my own because I know my incompetence will devalue everyone else's experience. On that point, I'm not one to powergame. I'm not one to abuse a meta. I will send men out on LZ2 drops, or deny attachments, or something that breaks the flow of a standard match, knowing that Marines might or will probably lose, but hell at least we go out with a bang. Thats my OOC defense, although nobody cares about that because I can say whatever I want but at the end of the day, its all for you guys to decide.

Now, onto my IC explanation. I want to go with something unique, something I don't see COs do. For that, I've come to the conclusion of a groundside CO. I'll go on the ground with the Marines on the first drop and personally advise my command staff based on what I see on the ground. I will NOT go out and fight with the Marines, my job is to dictate that work, but I feel me being groundside will provide a morale boost to my men. I would adivse LZ FOB construction and make sure my men's supplies actually get to where they're needed. If not, I'll go back to the ship and handle it. This means that this would put pressure on my XO and SOs since I'm not there to personally communicate with them, but I feel that would make their roles more exciting. If I die on the ground, even better! More chaos = more F U N.

I know that I've only been around for a month and that me being on the ground might be a liability for you guys' fun. I know that if we have a skeleton crew for a command staff, we're fucked. Which is why I'd do my groundside schtick during high-pop and mid-pop times. During low-pop, I'd try to keep more to a traditional CO, or maybe I'll go groundside occasionally. Depends on how I feel.

tldr; I'm flexible, unpredictable and looking to make a name for myself in the community

Not Carson levels of memery though

One of the best SOs I've seen so far. You should play XO, as I've not seen you in that position like ever, but I'm fairly sure you could do it, so you get my vote.

I like your application a lot, I am curious what would you do if there is no XO? Will you just play traditional until one pops on?
Character: Chris Minder

Roles: XO, Staff Officer

Yeah. The rules state that the CO can't leave without an XO present on the ship. But if I stay on the ship and an XO does show up, it would be out of character to just leave the ship and tell the XO basically "yeah, I'm going to go have fun, you're the captain now." If I'm going to commit to a playstyle or character at the start of the round, I believe you have to use that til round finish

0 information whatsoever was provided on how you'll actually ROLEPLAY, and "I'll go down to the planet" is maybe half of a GAMEPLAY gimmick.

Provide an example of how or why your character would do what he does. Being a field commander isn't really something your character does, it's something his role does.

Also

>If I'm going to commit to a playstyle or character at the start of the round, I believe you have to use that til round finish

>If I die on the ground, even better! More chaos = more F U N.

Throwing yourself into dangerous situations without minimal roleplay reasons for it is just going to get people pissed at you. I wouldn't, but a lot of people will.

I do want to say your criticism is valid and you're right that I should've added more role play development and character development. So I'll defend that when I get to my desktop

So here's the general background story of my CO that I've been developing for a few days since I got the idea for the app. I should've put it in the OP but I was waiting for someone to ask me about background or the actual character. I'm hoping his background can give a bit of a personality and character generalization. I hope it answers your question but if you need exact specifics, please let me know

BACKGROUND:

Christian Mooris has been a part of the Corps since he joined the Marines at the age of 18. He was there during the initial skirmishes with CLF rebels in the Dust Raiders as a Sergeant. His time in the Tychon Rift sector provided Mooris with a sense of dedication to the Corps and the men and women he serves with.

Mooris was promoted to a Lieutenant in the Dust Raiders, proving himself as a Staff Officer. Although he is prone to overly-defensive tactics in order to preserve the lives of his men. Some instances he is known to fight alongside his Marines, never forgetting his time as a Sergeant.

He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander after a valiant defense of a loyal colony during a CLF counterattack. Many Marines were lost but because of their sacrifices, the rest of Mooris' men held the line. This has left Mooris scarred as he will retreat or give up vital positions to preserve his mens' lives without thinking of the bigger strategy. His actions through the rest of the CLF campaign proved he had great leadership and inspirational abilities, although his past makes him somewhat of a liability. His combat skill is average at best but knows how to deligate work amongst his subordinates, although he's not afraid to step in and get things sorted personally.

When the USS Almayer was assigned to patrol back into the Tychon Rift, Mooris was offered a command of the Falling Falcons due to his previous experience in the sector. Mooris agreed and although he is new to the Marines of the Falling Falcons, he regards any Marine a life to protect and provide for

I've had you as an SO when I was in command multiple times, you get the job done and can keep the squad intact. Also, application is nice, I like the background. +1

Very comfortable in the command role, and good leader. Would like to see a bit further development of a commander persona. How does his interactions with marines or command make him stand out from others in a command position?

Well, for one thing, Mooris is very close to the standard grunt and NCOs more so then the command staff on occasion. He's one to put their safety and supply above all else, even though this will lead to clashes with the command staff or even the High Command. His persistence with "leading from the ground" also makes Mooris greatly exposed but he believes this allows him to form trust with his men and is important for him to gage a situation for himself.

I hope that this makes Marine players have more inspiration to listen to my orders so they don't end up getting killed as fast or to breed competency through my leadership style

I don't like Christian Morris, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and vote "yes" just because. Also the poll ends tommorow and you might as well have the reward you deserve for being a good leader.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Is there a specific reason? Just looking for criticisms

No, there isn't. I had limited interaction with you, and you are very eager to play Commander, so I'm just helping you get it.

You ramboed from the start of the OP leaving most of your squad clueless and just telling them "FOLLOW MUH BECON IF YOU LOST" then stood next to uranium walls and got quite a bit of radiation poisoning, then after like 15 minutes you died.
It was generally an awful experience for me, but at least it didn't ruin my round.
