Sirlordington's Commander application - Help Luke Compton get a promotion

Byond ID: Sirlordington

Player name you use the most: Luke 'PewPew' Compton

Make a list of links to all of your applications and (job)ban appeals, including whitelist and staff apps, within the last year. Also, provide "Ban reason; Verdict" beside each (job)ban link:

Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines? Yes, I do.

Why should you be whitelisted?

In terms of gameplay experience, I think I have a good track record when it comes to command, having played SO extensively and having XO as my main role. I also know my way around the ground positions, with quite a few rounds as standard and squad lead and I dabble in combat engineer. While not excessively familiar with medical roles, I have played doctor a few times and know my way around the other shipside roles; I've played MP and CMP quite a bit, I've been in requisitions a bunch and I've played a few rounds as MT as well.

On the gameplay side, I think I am a relatively competent commander that can provide fun rounds for those involved. I'm not going to say I'm here to cause a meta revolution and make different and weird strategies every round, but I think my standard strategy provides fun for everyone on the ground and I do shake things up a bit every so often via the use of different firebases, deployments and so on, while making logical decisions to the best of my ability in the context my character finds themselves in.

When I've found myself in command, I have relied on delegating, as I believe role and rank is there for a reason. I like to give SLs general objectives and allow them autonomy to organise their squad as they see fit, and rely on my SOs and SLs to sort the details out while I focus on strategy. I don't think it's beneficial to have the commander micromanaging departments and squads, as there are already people in place to do that and the commander butting in repeatedly disrupts this and may even make it unfun for the person whose role it is to lead that squad/department. That said, I do monitor all channels and oversee the operation of all units as much as I can. I am not afraid to step in and appoint if things are not running smoothly. Nobody likes having a bumbling SL/SO/Head that cannot organise their own department and it is the commander's duty to ensure that does not happen, both IC (to win) and OOC (to ensure people are having fun).
On the topic of roleplay, I think I can provide good, sensible, logical RP. I regularly play on an HRP server, though I do tone it down in Colonial Marines in an attempt to find a compromise between the often hectic pace of the game and the slower, more methodical pace RP requires. It believe that whenever possible, they should complement each other. For example, while I will not HRP my way through requisitions, I will throw in greetings and phrases to make it more enjoyable. I would also converse with the colonists and would appoint someone to oversee the ground op if I felt the conversation grave enough to require undivided attention.

If you've seen me in game, you'll probably know the kind of character I play. Luke is a very strict person. He is greatly loyal to the USCM and therefore holds himself and those around him to high standards. He will not hesitate to punish people if he believes they are failing the USCM, and refuses to allow military personnel to evac. However, this very view of the USCM also means that he truly believes marines are capable of living up to those standards, often to the point of clear denial. This belief leads him to attempt to push himself and others to their limits, leading to an aggressive style that relies on constant pushes on the ground and brigging threats on the ship in order to inspire and spur the marines under his command into action.

If this sounds reasonable to you, vote Luke Compton for Commander. If not, feedback is always greatly appreciated. Please be sure to pose any questions that may occur to you and I will answer them to the best of my ability.
I used to play Luke Compton. Now I play Reginald Dempsey.

I have been under this guy's Guidance, and I can say he's a great tactician/Roleplayer.

I want see you with your shiny Mateba, pouring bullets in the brains of herectics and do very aggressive strategys that will end uo in 95% of the time on Dsalt and several reports!

In a serious note, solid player and Roleplayer. I belive he won't suck. +1 from me.

Cannot say I've had a bad experience with Luke, in fact last night was filled with dramatic rp and laughs coming from him.

I believe he'll do fine as commander, definitely worth giving a chance at the very, very least.

I'd feel safe having Luke in command of an operation, very reliable marine, and good when it comes to RP. I'd like to see you as a squad leader a bit more often, too. +1 from me.

I think it's only fair for everyone to know what you are referring to. My single note refers to this very situation. It refers to a three hour ban, also my only ban, given the 17th of September.

The note states that I threw a flashbang while the marines were fending off xenos, which got all marines killed. This did happen, and I do regret it. What happened was this: We were at the SD backroom, the one with the button. I had a perma prisoner I had been lugging around ever since the aliens hijacked the ship. He had been straightjacketed due to self harm and after being thrown into permanent confinement had repeatedly and openly talked about supporting the CLF. I remember having requested his execution, but it was denied and I had IC reasons so I had opted to keep him restrained and drag him around to ensure he would live to see the end of it.

Anyway, we were in the backroom of the SD, where I had been watching the prisoner while the rest of the marines defended the main room. I had repeatedly warned people who had tried to move or presumably free him to leave the prisoner alone, while he was urging them to kill me and free him. So, when I went out to help with the defense and then came back in to find two guys had taken him into the room with the button, welded the doors and were in the process of freeing him, I thought I had to neutralise them and since it would be at least three versus one and I had to climb I window I opted for the flashbang.
Unfortunately, just as I did it the SD outer room defense fell and the aliens came pouring in, killing us all.

I immediately regretted this decision, as one does when they get the rest of their team murdered. While I can say the decision was terrible and the ban was certainly deserved, I did learn from the experience. So, would I do it again? No. First off, because I simply wouldn't drag the prisoner around, instead, I would release them or leave them secure in permanent confinement if they were dangerous enough. And second, because stunning near combat is certifiably dumb and one should not do it ever.

This is of course, my side of the story, but it's the only one I can provide. So there you go, it was a terrible call and an honest mistake. Does it warrant a -1? You be the judges of that.

I'd recommend just ditching any flashbangs when aliens have been confirmed to have hijacked the ship.

Upon hearing this ban story though, I think I'm still going to say I hold to my +1 for now. The ban didn't involve some ridiculous shenanigans as a command role, and you tend to roleplay competently enough.

I'll take it that you learned and have moved on from this experience, and unless you do something absolutely obscene again, I'll support this Commander App.

Wrote like an ass there for a bit, sorry for that. You're great at command and rp more than most people on the server. We've played multiple times together and each time you never broke character. You have attitude too your character which in turn adds onto the rp; you've won multiple rounds for the marines that I've witnessed. I'll give you the +1, mostly because we need more competent commanders playing. Most of the commanders I've seen usually are silent or do the same old shit. Keep that mind set you have with your character as it will add to the rp during the round; I've seen you play cmp a lot, so you're well aware of marine laws.

You're going to get commander, and hopefully spice up this cycle that I've witnessed with commanders.

+1 good luck in the future, commander.

That's not bad policy, actually. Whatever the case, I appreciate the vote of confidence. As I said, I messed up and made a bad call, I paid for it, I learned from it and I unfucked myself and continued playing. So thank you for that.

I have noticed that recently a number of people have decided to either vote no or change their positive votes to negative ones without comment and frankly, it's almost frustrating because I just don't know why. I would like to humbly request that if you do decide to vote against or change your vote, you give your reasons so that I may understand what needs improvement. Of course, if it is in response to the above story, then there is nothing I can do, what is done is done. However, if it is something else then I would greatly appreciate the feedback so that I may improve in the areas people feel I am lacking in.

If the app doesn't go through then it doesn't go through, stuff happens. But I would at least like to have the opportunity to learn from the denial of the app, instead of getting to the other side of this not just empty handed, but without the ability to learn why and improve.

I've change what I've written above. To be honest the ban/note you have should not factor at all into you being a commander. You made a one time mistake as an mp and now you're known for that. The Luke Compton character adds flavor to the rounds each time I've see you play him; either it as an mp or command staff.

Just like my commander app that was made a few weeks ago it got denied; mostly it was my fault as I reached too far to early. You on the other hand are not a new person and have a face in the community. Keep up what you're doing and try different stuff each round; like if you see an admin, message the USCM more often. In turn you might end up getting a extremely bizarre round. At briefings try to not do the same old stuff that every XO or CO does. Yell at the marines, degrade the marines, excite the marines, or change up where you give the briefs.

Everything is built up from what I've seen on this server. So try and have the rounds that everyone will remember because in turn they'll remember you as that commander that did this or that.

Hope you get accepted as a commander. :)

I have seen you multiple times in game. You are a competent officer and actually RP with people, without having some dumb gimmick that gets you into trouble. You seem like you can handle the CO role without any issues IC or OOC. +1 from me.
