Kennard Davis - Commander Application

Post by LittleBlast » 17 Jun 2018, 00:01

Byond ID:LittleBlast

Player name you use the most: Kennard Davis

Make a list of links to all of your applications and (job)ban appeals, including whitelist and staff apps, within the last year. Also, provide "Ban reason; Verdict" beside each (job)ban link:
None

Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines?
Yes, Money should never overtake rules in terms of priorities.

Do you understand how the Battlefield Execution functions?
Yes, It may be used by a commander to remove somebody who is a direct threat to the success of the operation at hand. Marines in MP Custody, or protected by Marine law are immune to this. Military Police Staff are also not allowed to be executed this way.

Do you understand you are not above Marine law, or allowed to enforce it yourself?
Yes, I am subject to marine law, and it is the Military Polices job to enforce it.

What do you think is the job of a Commander?
The Job of the Commander is to lead the Corps to victory through planning and communication with those under them. They are not a marine meant to be fighting in the front line, and while they CAN go down and lead from the field, much of their strength comes from communication and organization.

If a member of your staff is disobeying orders, how would you handle it?
It Depends on what they are doing. If they are disobeying orders because they knew something I didn't, Then i would be fine with it. For example, A squad leader retreating without orders to is fine if they have a valid reason to, such as being slaughtered by aliens. Other cases such as simply not hearing or understanding my orders, I would reprimand them and tell them to pay more attention next time, only escalating if it a repeated issue. If it is blatantly disobeying orders, there are two options I see. The first is Informing the MPs and letting them deal with it. The second would be a Battlefield Execution, however this is reserved for Blatant Disobedience, which will directly and drastically affect the outcome of the Operation. An example of this is me informing a squad repeatedly to move to assist another squad, and instead they tell me to fuck off they are playing cards and then the other squad is wiped. It is to be held for the most extreme of cases of disobedience.
In all, I understand that mistakes happen, and understand that not everything will go exactly as planned. Having experience as SL, I understand that at times, in order to keep your squad alive and to not get wiped, you occasionally have to disobey orders. I hope to bring this understanding to the role of CO.

Why should you be whitelisted?
I believe I have a strong understanding and ability of leadership, with my ability to listen in to every radio channel and not get overwhelmed. I have played SO many times, and on one occasion being the sole overwatch officer for all four squads. Besides this, I feel that I can bring a unique personality to the Commander Role, along with many creative strategies to improve the experience of everybody involved. I have played CM for a few months by now, and very quickly began to play more and more important roles, such as SL, SO, XO, and the Alien Queen, which I thrived as. I also have a strong grasp of RP, and how to best utilize it to improve the experience of everyone involved.

Thank You, and I hope you consider me as a Viable Commander candidate. Feedback, Comments, or Suggestions are all welcome and appreciated. Thanks!
Kennard Davis

I haven't seen you as XO much, so I'm neutral for now. You say you've played SL a few times, but XO is a different beast to take on.

hrm. I've seen you as SL one time. But never as XO or anything. Actually the SL round is the only time I've seen you.

Gonna keep neutral until more feedback comes in..

I haven’t seen you in the game too often myself as any leadership roles, which could be a problem, however It’s not like i’m on 24/7 like When I first started playing, or at the most normal of times. Seeing you on though aside, based on your application and the few times I have seen you, I believe you know your stuff when it comes to Marine law, the role itself and being a fair CO, and that definetely is a good thing. Pair that with being able to stay calm and focused when multiple people on multiple comms are calling out for your head and I think you’d make a good, “by the book” kind of CO. You got a +1 from me.

I have played SO/XO quite a few times, a lot more recently, however I would say from my experience, SL is a lot more similar to XO than you may think. As A SL, your job is to lead your marines to victory. You are in charge of making sure your squad works as a cohesive unit, and keeping your soldiers alive. That is the exact same thing as XO, just replacing individual marines with the 4 squads. Now I'm not saying they are the exact same by any means, however, personally, I believe that most of the essential skills are the same.

I've seen you a good bit and you've definitely had a crack at playing command staff but you've definitely been playing ingame. App looks good overall I'll give you a +1.

I've seen him plenty as SO, think he's ready to do XO/CO as well. Knows what he is doing command wise, and he's been a good subordinate when I've played with him as XO or a fellow SO

My experience with you boils down to the following:

Two seperate rounds where your orders have lead directly to my death as a medic. And in one of those you blamed me for following them.
One round where you took over the OW spot and did an adequate job considering you had other things to think about.
You do talk a lot over comms, but you need to make way more use of squad message, which is a thing a lot of overwatches forget about, although I've been seeing it more often recently.

I recommend you spend a lot of time as SL and other important ground based roles before trying Staff Officer and higher command roles.

Before I began playing SO/XO, My main roles were Medic/SL. Both of these roles carry a LOT of responsibility for the success of the squad, albeit in different ways.

I feel like squad message, atleast before they increased the size, was kind of useless unless comma were down. I'll need to test it now though since the size is apparently increased.

As for you dying due to orders - Things fuck up, things go wrong. Sometimes people don't hear an update on an order, or don't hear the fallback order. It is very hard to tell the difference between that and people running off into the middle of bumfuck nowhere because they saw a runner, and then they died. People die, I have accepted that, and so should you.

I've had the exact same experience on dying to your orders. You were a deployed XO and we were the only squad stationed in front of Lambda. They had Boilers and Crushers. It was one of those classic murderholes. You were along with us and in our squad comms, playing cowboy with your machete. Everyone kept telling you this was a terrible idea: the SO, the SL and the squad members. You got gassed a few times but kept at it. I play a lawful character and am very familiar to dying alone in pushes people fail to join in. So I did as you ordered: I pushed, along a fair number of others. The result was what we had been predicting all along, we got slaughtered. Me? I got captured and could hear as command issued the retreat to bar.

This is not a -1, because everyone makes mistakes sometimes. I'll try to keep an eye on you to better comment on the application. I hope you listen to the feedback of your troops and fellow command members, though. And play deployed commander as a leader, not as a machete-wielding unga memeing in the frontlines.

To be fair I only grabbed a machete after like the 5th or 6th queen that we were hunting down.

As to the Rest of your points, I agree that I need to get better when it comes to considering the words of my troops and fellow command staff, however at the same time I feel that if you listen to Everything that they say you are basically not going to be able to play the round, because 9 times out of 10 they are telling you that it is hopeless and to Evacuate when we have 200 marines versus a young Runner. Exaggeration of course but you get the point there. The Troops on the ground are often pessimistic naysayers. It can be hard to figure out what the actual status is at times.

Good Commander needs balance. I've seen you around but nothing notable, no annoying gimmicks that I can remember - neutral.

Start taking XO and asking the Commander (if there is one) to let you run Briefing and the Annoucements.

Make yourself more known.

Needs more feedback as it seems everyone is a bit split on this appliaction but a good few are leaning on the positive side, also haven't seen your name in-game.
I say play more XO/SL to get more known in the community.

I don't think I've seen you at least once, you have a carte blanche in my books. Play more often, prove yourself as a leader. Squad leader and SO/XO are the good roles if you're seeking some more fame.
A failure, also called a semi-competent medic sometimes.

I know your name, don't know how well you roleplay. Though the app is a bit barebones overall I will say I'm neutral for now until I get more people who can vouch for your roleplay and command time.
I'm not crazy, you're crazy.

Size aside, they are useful because of how different they look. Immediately noticeable in chat regardless of what is going on. They also show up even when someone is deaf, which is useful because there's a lot of reasons marine might be deaf. Basically, anytime you have important information for the squad, use a squad message. SL and a couple PFCs go down in hydro? Squad Message. Filtration plant is no longer the rendezvous point because it's too hazardous? Squad message (or order update).

Yeah, Recently I have begun to appreciate the Usefulness of the tool. I never realized it before, but if you send something in Squad Message, people actually LISTEN to you and its great! I try to use it a lot more now that I know what a good tool it is.

To everyone who said they would keep it Neutral - Now that I have played a LOT more (I probably made the APP way to early) and fleshed out my character and playstyle, has your opinion changed? Any advice would be appreciated.
