Patrick O'Farrel's Commander Whitelist Application

Player name you use the most: Patrick O'Farrel

Make a list of links to all of your applications and (job)ban appeals, including whitelist and staff apps, within the last year. Also, provide "Ban reason; Verdict" beside each (job)ban link:

N/A

Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines?

I do.

Why should you be whitelisted?

I have played mostly command roles for the past few days now and have gone to like it. I enjoy holding briefings, diplomacies with other factions, and meetings, especially if there is a noticeable outcome at the end of it. I understand that losing isn't always bad, and what matters is fun on both sides; if it's not fun, why bother? I believe (possibly) that I show excellent competence, after doing the CO's job as an XO, while the CO ran around fixing a problem that had to do with the researcher. I tuned in to squad's channels, talked to the squads, and gave orders based on their responses to the current situation. I wrote down the squad compositions after listening to my SO's, and formed a briefing plan based on it. (IE the squad with the most engineers was sent to FOB duty, most marines would be sent to scout, etc.) and the CO let me do my own briefing, which went fine, as the marines quickly did their objectives. Every time something went wrong, I told the marines to hold in and to help rescue our fellow captured marines, to increase morale, as a real leader should.

I enjoy constructive feedback and can keep my cool even in some stressful situations. I believe these are key components a commander should have, as it allows him to work well even while the marines are inevitably getting fucked up, and to listen when the CE/CL/CMO/CMP/whoever has some issues with how the commander is operating.

Well, I've literally never seen you on the server (What time zone are you in?) so I can't really attest to your character from a personal perspective, but in your application, in the "Why I should be whitelisted" part, your main argument seems to be "I did well once, so I should be whitelisted". I want you to give me an idea of what we could expect from you as a Commander. Here are some hypotheticals that I'd like you to resolve as your character:

1) You only have 2 SO's, an XO, and yourself, but one of your SO's went and got himself arrested on various charges. Your understaffed in the CIC now, and COC Planetside is falling apart. How do you fix it?

2) You've just come out of cryo, early round, and the first words your hear are from one of your SL's: "Fuck Command, don't listen to them, follow me instead." The XO is trying to perform his briefing, and the MP's are being outran around the briefing room by the SL. You've just arrived there, and it's absolute chaos. You...

My timezone is GMT-5, and I play a few rounds 4:00 PM UTC to 10:00 PM UTC each day.

As for the scenarios, here's my input.

1: Assign the XO to overwatch a squad, and I do the same. This way, we have 3 people assuming SO duties. Once the arrested SO comes back, I give him his spot back, and keep the XO working on the squad he's assigned.

2: Since the MP's can't catch him, I'll mark him for insubordination, and order MP's to arrest him when he's at the drop ship, since it's somewhat hard to run around in there. (And inform PO to not launch until I tell him the SL has been arrested, ofc.) Once he's arrested, charge him with attempted mutiny, insubordination, and resisting arrest, and execute him following proper procedure (Make announcement, get MP's/CMO to finish him off depending on execution method, and give him his last words) and in the announcement before I execute him, include a mini-speech saying that Commanders know what's going on in the battlefield more than the SL would, thus, the SL's should listen to the Commander/XO at the time. Suggest that if they have any complaints about the Commander/XO, becoming a secessionist is not a good way to handle it, and to instead talk to the CL about submitting a complaint. Thank them for going peacefully instead of blasting the XO, and move on with the operation.

I have now seen you, so there's that. For the scenarios, I like them both, but what if, in scenario 1, the SO managed to rack up enough time to be thrown in perma?

If the SO ended up in perma, I would have to make-do as taking his spot until another person late-joined as SO.

Fair enough. The responses feel a little bland, but I'll +1 you.

This Poll will end on November 2nd. I will make the final ruling at that time.

Sorry for this, but I've lost interest in SS13 for the time being. If you want to close this app, that'd be fine with me.
