AVagrant's CO Application

Post by AVagrant » 18 Feb 2018, 00:06

Byond ID: AVagrant

Player name you use the most: Matthias Greene

Make a list of links to all of your applications and (job)ban appeals, including whitelist and staff apps, within the last year. Also, provide "Ban reason; Verdict" beside each (job)ban link: None

Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines?
Yes

Do you understand how the Battlefield Execution functions?
Yes, I also understand that I have the authority to do it at any time, but I should reserve it for very problematic staff. I have also read the procedure and the bits about MPs and their right to fax High Command should they find it questionable.

Do you understand you are not above Marine law, or allowed to enforce it yourself?
Yes, I am not above the law, and CMPs/MPs should be the one to enact Marine Law.

What do you think is the job of a Commander?
To effectively help the marines and other staff execute the mission. To listen to all intel, information, and opinions, then judge for the best course of action based on them. To act as the final arbiter on the matter of how the corps should act.

If a member of your staff is disobeying orders, how would you handle it?
Depending on how often they disobey, scale punishment based on Marine Law. I don't like taking players out from the round, but if they should be actively hindering other players and the mission they should be removed as marine law calls for. If it gets bad enough, either BE or adminhelps should suffice.

Why should you be whitelisted?
I've been a long time player of CM, and want to provide CM with a level headed CO who aims to help the corps and not their ego. I played a few CO, XO and SO rounds on the Sulaco, so I'm not entirely new to command.

Your time here supports your time here, however posts are extremely low
I have not seen you in my days here much
Have not seen you in trouble with MPs
Can not quote on your ability to lead

As I usually am, I am just pointing these out first, and keeping neutral til I get other players responses. Changing to 1- as to be any high RP role or whitelist status, you must CONSTANTLY be on the forums and at least giving a post a day in my opinion. One more thing, SO and XO are completely different things, so you definitely need more time as it.

While you might be a 'veteran' player, judging from your time spent on CM, it doesn't automatically make you qualified for the role of Commander. Your answers are very good however what worries me the most is the last part where you said you aren't new to command roles which is good but when you said on the Sulaco as well... that has been a very long time and things have certainly changed a bit. For now, I'm going to be giving this a -1 as I never have interacted with your character (I believe) and I have never seen your character in the command staff (In this year at least).

It's funny you say that, as I played a round of BO last night and honestly the new updates make being a BO so much easier. The ability to designate a new SL and jump to marines on cam is so nice. Gone are the days where I'd have to write my squad in the notes section.

A LOT has changed from the time of the Sulaco... if you haven't gottan used to calling it SO instead of BO, you really need to play more and get used to the new updates.

You're gonna need a lot more than a few XO rounds too, you want to have played XO more times than you can count to be honest.

-1 for now.

Please beef up your responses maybe a little bit. Feels a bit bare. I'd also like you to spend more time in the XO or SO roles so that other players can also gauge your ability on to command.

I'm a bit new here to really state opinion pieces, so officially I'll give a neutral here.

That said, a lot has changed since I got here several months back, let alone since the SADAR and (apparently) BO days with Sulaco. You might want to feel the new flow of the game more, especially with the new comms, mortars, and the like; marine laws in particular I'm sure have changed.

EDIT: Seems to have adapted well. Still feel too new to give a vote, but it seems relatively positive from a few others.

I would like to point out I just had a round as a lone SO leading the marines, while significantly drunk, which ended in a marine major!

Edit: Was taking a little bit of the credit from all the marines who followed orders and effectively moved as a unit.

I don’t mind the short responses as they’re easier to read and get meaning from, and well, look at my app. As the late join Commander of this round, it appeared that you did good and were doing good, and well, you were way more helpful than the XO who fell SSD soon after he hopped out of cryo.

Get some more command rounds in, you made a fantastic SO who actually communicated with the squads and fellow command staff, up your forum activity if you can. I’m sure you found that BO and SO are pretty different than each other now as well.

I’m dropping my +1 here because you have the qualities I’d like to see more commanders have, good luck.

Edit: I’d like to note that every role in command feels and has different duties. While the XO can sub in for a SO and whatever, being an XO is way more different than being a CO, I for one dislike being a XO but enjoy being a CO for multiple reasons. In short, I feel like you dont need to go XO a ton to be an effective CO/whatnot except to get a feel for announcements.

I read this guy's answers to the questions and he was spot on. Expected some praise and one of the first replies is a leaning towards -1 because he doesn't make a random post once a day?
I will drop my feedback.

"and want to provide CM with a level headed CO who aims to help the corps and not their ego." It's a damn shame i can't +1 more than once.
- If this dude actually applies his answers here to his command rounds then he already outperforms most of the active COs we have now.
- His last sentence makes him seem like he never played command on the almayer but that's shut down when he decides to pay SO a visit and proceeds to, by himself, lead the marines into a major while drunk.

Heavily leaning on a +1 but i just want to see you play first. Last time i +1d a dude for having good answers, they were made CO and had a reputation for killing a dozen marines every round as CO by inverting OBs, not saying you are as retarded as some of the "commanders" we have whitelisted but i just want to see with my own eyes first.
Why not play an XO round, record and upload it so everyone here can see?

I can't take all credit for that now that I'm sober. Ghostdex thankfully came on about... an hour and thirty/forty into the OP and helped significantly, and the marines that round listened so well and worked together! Until Ghostdex though, I was alone handling all four squads and announcements.

Having you been my SO numerous times I can say confidently you understand how to overwatch and lead a squad, however I havent seen you much as XO at all and cant really gauge how you react with large scale OPs, Its saturday night rn, I urge you to take a few rounds on Sunday and play as XO. For now I am going to leave a +1, but I hope you go XO more.

I've seen you a few times in game, and you're a good leader overall, I'm pretty sure you're goin to be a good Commander too, if you get the chance.

That is not the point, if he played a round every day in-game, and posted once every month, that just puts butterflies in my stomach.

I am not trying to be mean, and I have seen you around some, but having 2 posts in 4 months is not fair for the other players who are on the forums every day just so they can have a chance at being whitelisted. And the daily post was just a suggestion, sorry for putting that out there. I am also not counting the lack of XO and being drunk on the job (again, I am not trying to be rude).

Last time I checked, the CO whitelist is supposed to filter baldies. It is not supposed to be something as hard as the Pred whitelist. I can understand if this was on a Pred whitelist post, but this is a CO whitelist application. Some COs dont have alot of posts on the forums, like Alky.

As far as I recall I haven't seen you in the bridge at all whilst I've been playing. I play quite the bit and my main roles are Command staff/CL. The fact that I can't say I've seen you is bad because I can't give feedback apart from the fact that I don't think you play command roles enough.

-1 My advice is to play command a little more just so people can recognise you and give actual feedback to your style. Whilst the Commander whitelist is not as intense as the Pred one. It is still necessary to have Command experience and some public knowledge of your char and your behaviours and competency.

I haven't played Colonial Marines since mid-2017, so I have no idea who you are. All I really have to judge you by is the responses of those above, and the quality of your application. In both cases, they seem a bit poor.

Ideally, you should have tried to prove your potential competence at the role by filling out your application as much as possible, but I suppose it's too late for that now.

Neutral, but if feedback continues to tip towards your favor, I'll give you my support.
