Synthetic application: Rob

Post by NicoDeimos » 23 Sep 2018, 06:48

Byond ID: NicoDeimos

Marine Name: Reina Saito

Name/Designation of the Synth Character you’re requesting to use: Rob

Are you familiar with the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines (viewtopic.php?f=57&t=14417)?
I read over it a few times to make sure I can fully appreciate the limitations it imposes. I've also made sure to familiarize myself with marine law.

Synthetic Character Story (An ADEQUATE description and story of your Synthetics actions and involvement in a previous mission onboard the Almayer):

Description:
Rob stands at about 5'8"/172cm, average build, with a light olive complexion and a thick head of brushed dark brown hair.

Story:
► Show Spoiler
How do you intend to play your Synth (as in, describe HOW you will act/play your Synth and what support roles you’ll mainly focus on, what is your synthetics quirk)?
I intend to play Rob somewhat as a cheeky salesman speaking informally and loose, often using layman's terms to keep conversations concise and simple, and making occasional use of (perhaps dated) slang and colloquialisms to be able to conform with and put at ease the people he would be assisting in a hopefully amusing way. Think the Chairmen from Fallout: New Vegas, except with less "Baby"s and "Ring-a-ding"s. Unless you wanted, that is.

How familiar are you with support roles? (ie; Medical, MT, Science, SO)
I have played each role at least a handful of times to get a decent grasp of the role's duties and how each role impacts the round. I am particularly fond of playing medical and engineering both shipside and groundside, and enjoy occasionally working overwatch. I would be interested in exploring the coming research elements as well.

Why should we whitelist you?
My favorite aspects of the game are the roleplay opportunities and working as a team. I am not particularly robust at combat, but I thoroughly enjoy trying to be as helpful as I can in areas I would like to believe I am most adequate which tend to be support roles. It would be an honor and a pleasure to have the flexibility and responsibilities of the synthetic role that I may be able to help make other players' rounds as enjoyable as possible.

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason (we will check, and lies may result in immediate denial)?
I have not been banned in the last month.

Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why?
I am not currently banned from any other server.

Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?
I understand and agree with these terms.

The story is weird. On one hand, I do like it - I like the quirk, for sure. The story, It's sort of like, you just answering what to do in certain situations. I dunno, there could've been more substance, oomph to it - but I like it enough, it does the job of showing off your quirk. I'm sure someone like Jakkkk will find you to be 'too human', but imo, this strikes well with me.

Quirk, as I said before, it's good. I like it. It's something different, and something I could definitely jibe wit'. I think it would go perfectly if you use it sparsely with command, and relied on it more heavily with enlisted personnel.

For your competency, yeah, I've seen you as a doctor, had you as a doctor - you're good in that book. OW, I haven't had you yet, I've seen you as an engineer. I think you've got all of it under your belt, so I can trust you there.

I'll hit you up with my +1, I'd be happy to see you 'round.

The scout specialist and a PFC that repaired you earlier are both in crit, which one do you heal first?

Thank you, looking back I feel I did mishandle the story and could have added more activity to make it interesting.
Of course around the big-wigs it'll be strictly business.
I'll play SO a bit more often to hopefully demonstrate my familiarity with the role to anyone else I haven't had a chance to overwatch for yet. Cycling through each squad regularly might help.

Taking into consideration the higher rank and better equipment I would have to tend to the specialist first regardless of any OOC feelings for the helpful PFC. As Rob may put it "baby treats me right, but the guy with the fancier suit and bigger gun gets attention." ;)
Should there be no medics around to attend to the PFC I would try to assist them after patching up the specialist, unless the spec needs an escort for immediate evac or I'm ordered to deal with something else of higher priority.

Personally I think that these kinds of quirk imply too much humanity, like Defaultio said, but that's a simple personal preference.

You're a good doctor, engineer, and I've seen you as a pilot once or twice if I recall correctly. While I think your forum posts are low, that shouldn't be a reason to ignore this application entirely.

+1 chief.

Your story has a lot of character to it, and I enjoyed it. It also looks like you have a good mentality for being a synthetic player. I think your quirk is fine, however I believe that as a synthetic you should address command with some formality. The only thing I would want you to remember as a synthetic would be to rely on human crew for orders. If there was any requisitions staff they should be making the decisions on ordering items unless you've been instructed to make the decision. Besides that pretty good application. +1

I've seen your character around and you're a pretty good roleplayer. I've also seen you be an engineer, doctor, PO - not sure about SO but I think you've got that nailed down anyways.

The story is okay, it does the job at showing me who your synth is and what they act like, that's what I search for in the story mainly. The quirk is interesting and I want to see how it goes.

I'll toss you a +1, why not.

I actually really like the quirk. Jakkkk might not be too fond of overly human synths, but I've come round from near his way of thinking to more the opposite; I'm falling out of favour with it after seeing all the overly robotic and emotionless synths. On top of that, I'm really interested to see how your synth and its speech pattern would play out in game.

The only thing I'd be curious about is that since the quirk is quite heavy -- how would you react to a CO/XO/other command member either asking you or outright ordering you to either tone it down or outright stop it? Would you be happy to rein it in if someone else thought it was distracting or a bit OTT?

Have my +1 already, although I'm interested to see your reply to that question.

Besides cutting it out due to a commanding officer's order it wouldn't affect me too much. I'd hope the quirk would be fun for others, but if it gets in the way of someone else's fun or ruins immersion for anyone I wouldn't mind toning it down to preserve the round.

Ha! That was actually part of my inspiration for the quirk.
Funnily enough I was considering a scene in my story where Rob would smack the top of one of the engines to demonstrate its toughness, only to have it fall apart immediately. I decided against it because I thought it would be too on the nose and improper to include a meme.

Overall you understand how to actually display the quirk and there aren't other issues from it other than the quirk itself. I would say with it synths emotions being limited you might be well served by keeping in mind what array of emotes the personality would do and avoiding others, such as giving thumbs up or not crying.
Another note would be that your quirk can seem human but can actually achieve the opposite as well, meeting grief with the sales man attitude could be rather disjarring and highlight the inhumanity of the synth as well as making for interesting scenes.
As defaultio said probably best not used too much with command who you should be recieving order from or relaying information to. I'll give this a +1, no issues with the app and the quirk can be well done but is best served with keeping things in mind about it.

I've had a lot of interactions with Saito in recent days, and I know she can do medical things pretty well. The quirk itself seems pretty interesting, but there's nothing I really can say that hasn't been said either way.

+1, good luck on your application chief.

As others have said the story feels like it’s just listing things synthetics do and know, but none the less it’s still shows your quirk and is mostly interesting. The quirk is funny in my opinion and I already was able to give it a voice in my head while reading it.

You earned it +1
