Sandra - Synthetic Application

Post by Epic_Charger » 08 Oct 2018, 06:13

Byond ID: Epic_Charger

Marine Name (so we know who you are; if you play alien mostly, state that here): Linda Clark

Name/Designation of the Synth Character you’re requesting to use (Follows common naming rules, and requires a first name with no last name): Sandra
Examples of acceptable names: James, Mason, Xavier, Felix, Otto, Allan, Jessica
Examples of unacceptable names: Obama, Jesus, King, Dragon, Godly, Snyper, Circuits

Are you familiar with the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines (http://www.colonial-marines.com/viewtop ... 57&t=14417)?: Yes, and Marine Law, and I spent some time reading up on synthetics from the actual lore such as David8, Walter, Annalee Call, and a few others to get more of a feel on how synthetics act.

Synthetic Character Story (An ADEQUATE description and story of your Synthetics actions and involvement in a previous mission onboard the Almayer):
► Show Spoiler
How do you intend to play your Synth (as in, describe HOW you will act/play your Synth and what support roles you’ll mainly focus on, what is your synthetics quirk)?: I would like to roleplay her with an upbeat attitude. Morale goes a long way in war, and I intend to have her make the best out of the worst situations. I like medical, as it's a good way to keep people in the round. There's something satisfying about making a dying marine who would have died for sure able and ready for combat despite their previous state.

How familiar are you with support roles? (ie; Medical, MT, Science, SO):
Command: I have a very comfortable understanding of how to lead and command, not that a synthetic will be required to do such, but I know the builds at least due to experience as a CO, XO, SO, CE, CMO, and so on and so on.
Security: I've read marine law numerous times to ensure I've understood it completely. Just like as CO, I know that I am not authorized, nor should I ever act as a law force if I am not an MP or CMP. But I do have experience handling marine law situations in the past. (I admit quite a while ago as I do not really enjoy playing the security force.)
Medical: I've played medical as CMO, MD, researcher, and medic, with medic being the most common. I know how to make chemicals, do surgeries, operate the auto-doc, and generally keep someone stable without relying too heavily upon a stasis bag or cryo pod. I like to think I understand the proper prioritization for triage patients (Fun fact; I even worked at a hospital for a short time in the pharmacy department, it was interesting to see the difference of triage between the game, and the real world.)
Engineering: I've played CE and MT a bit more recently, and do have experience as a squad engineer as well. I admit squad engineer isn't my favorite task out there. I do however quite enjoy playing the ship-side engineering roles. I like it as it offers a chance to RP more after setting up power, fixing the tank, loading the OB, and assisting with other common tasks (Such as the dropship set-ups or hacking medical vendors if asked.) I know how to repair an APC like the back of my hand, or to make an entirely new one if needed. I tend to favor FOB designs that don't just look like a box but instead have dents in the corners to offer more firing lanes and to lessen the likelihood of friendly fire.
Requisitions: I've helped out with requisitions in the past as the CO as well as playing cargo techs in the past. I admit I don't recall having played requisitions officer but I know the job well enough. I've got experience with how to order supplies, handle the attachment lines, salvage and stock materials or ammunition, and how to handle supply drops (Though as cargo it is typically yelling at the SO until they deploy the crate on their squad's pad.)
Piloting/Driving: I've handled dropship deployment both from the console as a pilot officer in the past, and have handled it through the remote signaling through the consoles located on the ground, at CIC, and even the ones in the hanger. I know how to swap the mission modes as well as how to optimize flight paths. The key is knowing which attachments to load onto which ship. For example, loading a missile launcher for the transport ship would be a poor choice as it would never be used unless we suddenly cut off its transport runs. I know how to operate the mechs for both loading attachments onto the dropships, as well as loading the orbital cannon itself. Yes, they can be used for general moving of various items but typically these are the main functions. I also have experience as a tank driver, and I quite enjoy it. Knowing what you can and can't run over is good for the overall well being of the tank itself.
Roleplay Orientated Jobs: Jobs such as the corporate liaison, or the researchers when presented a proper opportunity, and even survivors when they manage to make it off the planet can be extraordinarily fun times if you get to roleplay with the right people. I admit not everyone enjoys it as much as others, but for me, roleplay is a key component that keeps me coming back to colonial marines. I especially enjoy it when each round has a unique, or new roleplay experience that helps make it a memorable round. I've had my fair share of moments where I've gotten a chance to indulge in such roleplays, and I really hope that as a synthetic, I'd be able to continue on that experience and help make a round less 'cookie-cutter' than others.

Why should we whitelist you?: I've been a player on CM for quite some time. I dont think I've really built up any note history for the time I've been playing. That hopefully would indicate that I can follow rules decently well! I know how to do the support roles, so it'd allow me to actually do more than just one at once. Since I sometimes play during low-pop hours, this would help when there's so few people to fullfill vital roles.

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason (we will check, and lies may result in immediate denial)?: I have not; I did get a warning not too long ago about the use of Ultrazine; as I did not know the side effects it had when I was using it, and as such ended up misusing it. Now that I am aware I am positive that I won't repeat such an action.

Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why?: Not that I am aware of.

Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?: Yes, and in all honesty, I believe this is a valid and useful safeguard in case someone ends up abusing the powers they get through their whitelisting.

The quirk has been done before, but yours has a unique take on it - at least, what I was able to gleam from your short story. It isn't 'I'm so upbeat and yelling and ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~' that others may do - application is formatted oddly but I personally don't care.

For the story, it isn't on the Almayer. However, I won't take any points away for that - it's a needless rule that no one should have to follow. It's a short story, BUT it does the job. It's a simple premise, but it quite simply just shows how your character acts, it shows your understanding of the emotion aspect. It's unique enough, too, as I've not seen anyone making one of their creation.

For competency, yeah, you aight you aight you aight. No complaints, you just suck as a marine. lrn2play

For roleplay, yeah, I've seen you roleplay a lot. I have no concerns about that in anyway shape or form.

I'll toss you my +1.

Sleepy summed up all my points quite well. I like short and succint stories-- and yours fills all my checkboxes.

Quirk is okay, been done before but it's alright. I don't expect everyone to come up with some cool unique shit every time they apply.

I'll toss you a +1 considering I've also seen you roleplay well.

Listen, I got one question chief.

If I order you to get on a Overwatch Console, and cover it for me while I have to do something quick, what do?

OW is an important role, I'd happily take over on it while you did what ya needed to. I would relay orders given by the commanding officer, and ensure that the squad keeps an acting SL. I'd try to relay any important information to the squad I am assigned. As that would be my primary focus at the time.

I think Sleepy made some pretty good points, however there is ONE THING I'd like to address.

I don't think you are THAT bad as a marine.

Linda clark is a good egg and epic can roleplay. Story was short, so I could ding you on that, but your application pretty much is relying on your reputation for RPing at this point, and I've seen you in a variety of roles.

Haven't seen a story written in the first person in a bit, looks weird but it's cool.

Would you mind creating a dialogue between Sandra and some other people so I can gauge what their quirk is easier?

Here's a small addition to Jakkk (because I'm cool and great and he's not because he's not cool and great)

You're told that your speech is 'gay' by the CO and to cut it off. In addition to whatever you write above, I'd like to see you write something with this as well. Either same situation or a different one.

Right! So I'll start with Jakkk's idea first.

Speaking to marine after an arm replacement surgery: "Well, on the bright side, you'll be great at arm wrestling now. I would recommend avoiding other, common acts with that arm, however."

Returning to a FOB after being shot up badly from stray bullets: "Do you think I'll still look pretty for the end of operation photo?"

CO calling synthetic speech pattern gay: "Well sir, I always did kind of find an odd attraction to toasters." Stating the saying with a slight smirk in an attempt to humor the CO.

I dig this application. The story shows off your quirk even if it isn't super original you still have some visible personality to your synth. Working in support makes it a good place to roleplay with a quirk like that. The section on role familiarity was really fleshed out, and had a lot of effort put into it. While I can't remember you ingame, with a response like that I'm sure you know how to play any role needed. Everything else about your app is solid, good job. +1

Gonna stay neutral for now, this synthetic's humor just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. You could argue that it has programmed joke responses, but some of these are just trying too hard or too creative for a bunch of programs in a walking, talking body.

Fair enough! I figure I'll at least try to create a smaller story to give you a better idea of how I intend this synthetic's personality.
MAYDAY LV-328 was by all definitions a shit hole; it came to no one's surprise when even the colonists decided that was the case as well. A desert planet with hardly any necessary resources for survival. But thanks to its rich deposits of ores, it was advertised as a desert dream by W-Y officials. When the colony ended up barely scraping by enough imported resources to survive, the colonists took a turn for the worst. Reports of hostile colonist terrorist attacks grew every day in the outer rim colonies, some even managed to band together under the title of the CLF. By now, it standard security on these colonies could no longer handle it all, and W-Y resorted to its friends within the USCM. Being a heavy supporter of the USCM in both weaponry and supplies meant that the corporation had a lot of strings to pull. And pull those strings they did...

Red warning lights flashed through the cabin of the standard issue dropship. An anti-air round had just pierced through the right engine core leaving it completely disabled. At any other time, the focus would be on where simple colonists were acquiring such weaponry. But right now, at least for those within the dropship, they had other matters to attend to. With a shocking calm demeanor, the pilot of the doomed ship tugged to the right to counter the spinning of their ship. With only one engine operational the spiral effect was simply slowed. This caused the plummeting dropship to crash into the sand dunes on its damaged side. It slid a few yards before coming to a stop. The passengers were thrown about during the collision, but thankfully the positioning avoided anything worse than that.

A steady stream of smoke floated above the forsaken ship; almost like an indicator to anyone around that whatever treasures it held were free for the taking. The pilot of this ship figured they'd use that to their advantage. With a few dials turned and coordinate inputs, the pilot sent out a beacon back to the warship just over-head to indicate where they had crashed. The pilot stood up, seemingly unphased by the crash. The shocking part was that a portion of the window's supports had given in and smashed into the shoulder of the pilot during the crash. They simply rolled their shoulders before digging into their vest. A simple crowbar, often undervalued until times like this proved it's worth today as it forced open the busted door to the crew portion of the ship.

"OI! What the fuck kinda pilot are you!" The first words rang out from a rather displeased PFC, who had just finally convinced their seat locks to release. The battered man fell to the ground and coughed a bit before pushing himself up and stomping his way over towards the pilot. The pilot in turn simply tugged off their head, revealing the content face of the Synthetic Sandra. She spoke calmly in response to the angered man, "Well, I imagine your first flight wasn't all you had hoped for?" The marine didn't appreciate this response and instead delivered a solid punch to the side of the Synthetic's head. Sandra barely recoiled from the hit, before looking back to the man who was now holding his aching hand, "Gah! Damn fuckin' metal synths!" Sandra shakes her head softly, "Well when you're done messing around, I do believe we have some work to do!" She spoke in a cheery mood that clashed heavily with the situation. By now, the squad leader of the group had stepped up to inquire, "And what do you believe we're to do now, hrm? I'd love to hear it given we're stuck in a bucket of bolts now." Sandra lightly rubbed at her chin, "Well, as a professional bucket of bolts, I'd suggest we fortify to the best of our ability, Staff Sargeant. Unless of course, you're eager to be caught by some rather displeased colonists with your pants down." The squad leader scoffed softly in response to the comment, but gave a soft nod, "I suppose that's the most 'rational' thing to do in your programming?" By now Sandra was rugging at a portion of the broken door, ripping a panel of metal free from it, "Nah, that's just the first idea that came to mind." She wasted no time heading to the rear exit of the dropship. "On the bright side, I did manage to bolt our side entrances at the point of crash, meaning, we only have one exit we need to worry about covering." She dusts off the dented panel she held in her hands. "I'd suggest breaking open our supplies for to salvage what we can. Using the wood from the crates for firewood might be a good idea. I usually wouldn't suggest such, but our smoking ship is already rather obvious, and it's not like we can walk back to our home, no?" Sandra stepped outside of the crashed ship to peer at the sky, "Looks like it's getting late. I'm sure you can use your beauty sleep. Hope you packed extra blankets, deserts are known for being rather warm during the day, but... they're far from it at night." As she spoke, the last glimmer of the sunlight peaking over the sand dunes vanished, leaving the scene to be enveloped by darkness...

I wasn't expecting another wonderful application from a wonderful player and friend. But here we are once more. An excellent story by Charger and a very familiar quirk that I'm quite used too from her personality. There should be no question with her previous high quality application to CO. She'll make quite the good humorous synthetic.

Weak story -- it flows weirdly and could use some grammar & spelling touchups, and it's kinda short for my liking. It works, though, and like Sleepy said nobody really cares if the story is set on the Almayer or not.

I find myself kinda split between giving a +1 because it's good enough or siding with Jakkkk on the whole strange quirk thing. Call me cynical, but I've never been a fan of overly casual synth styles -- these are synths on a military vessel, and at least I think they'd be expected to maintain some level of professionalism. Having a joke up your sleeve seems like the kind of thing that will get old very quickly, and I'm also curious if you think you'll be able to consistently keep it up without repeating the same old material round after round.

It's pretty close to a +1 but I'm going with Jakkkk and staying neutral.
