Synth App - Tyumi

Post by SolubleWhenWet » 25 Nov 2018, 22:35

Byond ID:
SolubleWhenWet

Marine Name (so we know who you are; if you play alien mostly, state that here):
Jason Hakim

Name/Designation of the Synth Character you’re requesting to use (Follows common naming rules, and requires a first name with no last name):
Tyumi

Are you familiar with the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines (viewtopic.php?f=57&t=18978)?
Yes, and I've asked on discord for clarification on anything I might have missed.

Synthetic Character Story (An ADEQUATE description and story of your Synthetics actions and involvement in a previous mission onboard the Almayer):
► Show Spoiler
How do you intend to play your Synth (as in, describe HOW you will act/play your Synth and what support roles you’ll mainly focus on, what is your synthetics quirk)?
I want to play Tyumi as a helpful go-getter, innocent, and desiring the affirmation of the humans he reflects as a latest generation synthetic. The support roles I intend to focus are medical, since I find that the most fun and rewarding to get marines back into the round, and command, since I usually see an overwatch deficient of an LT.

How familiar are you with support roles? (ie; Medical, MT, Science, SO)
I've memorized the surgeries like the back of my hand, and I'm familiar with goonchemistry. I've played SS13 for years, so 'YEAH APC DESTROYED MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" is something pretty easy to fix for me as well. Playing command is something I also enjoy, since you're eyes in the sky and can get information across all over.

Why should we whitelist you?
I don't care about winning or anything, I just want to fill any necessary role needed, and have a good time roleplaying.

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason (we will check, and lies may result in immediate denial)?
Not yet, and I don't plan on it!
Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why?
Not banned from any server I know of.
Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?
Yes, I understand anyone can have their whitelist revoked by breaking the rules and guidelines.

Seen you on the discord a lot, and a few times in-game in medical or at the Req line, nothing too bald there. Not seen much in the way of engineering work, but engineering roles tend to be a bit more behind the scenes anyway.

I'm trying to discern whether you want to play Gen1 or Gen2, as your story points to a Gen1, but your description says, "latest generation"

Holding off on my +/- for now.

Damn, theres the first mistake I failed to notice while proofreading. I meant BAYCHEM, since you can make citalopram, and paroxetine though they're not listed in the wiki. I've familiarized myself with the CM chemistry mechanics, I know the cute tricks like bottle vending/restocking, and the various OD rates.

A part of it is that I value teamplay and cooperation, but I largely want to be a synth because they're cool.

I intend on Tyumi being a colorfully uncanny pseudobeing. His name reflects the Yutani portion of W-Y, with him as an idealized asian caricature of a human. As such, he's a gen 2 model synthetic.

Why'd you choose a Japanese ethnic synthetic? Just because it's cool or something else?

I'm a big fan of the cyberpunk genre, which is typically set in a future ruled by corporations, technology replacing life, and Japan superceding everything else; you've no doubt known about it from William Gibson's Neuromancer and R. Talsonian Games' tabletop RPG Cyberpunk 2020. The genre was defined in the 1980s and prominently features Japanese influences, like Alien, and that was a period of time when everybody thought Japan would be the next world leader, before their economy tragically plateaued.

Its a future that never happened that I think is very interesting, and that's why I'd like to portray a synthetic character that parallels this future, albeit more western. Yes, I think its cool.

"W-w-what the f-fuck are you doing robot! S-save the doctor!" "No can do, Mr. Dangerfield. As Commander Wulfe stated, he spilled the beans and was given his punishment."

Nice.

I'm not entirely sure about Soluble's engineering skill (I have seen him as MT however) but he performs well in Command, Medbay, and Requisitions. The quirk is a step above the average "cheery" synth in my eyes as Soluble gives the synth a very clear objective, being that he wishes to overachieve and strives towards excellence to earn the approval of humans. It's a good quirk and is one I can see people easily role-playing with and being entertained by. The synth story adequately expresses the quirk and I fail to see any major red flags that signify an incorrect understanding of synth protocol.

As a player, he's very laidback. He isn't somebody you'd catch salting in deadchat about anything. He puts more effort into roleplaying than most other marines I've seen around, casually chatting me and fellow personnel up when he has the opportunity, all of which are signs to me that he'd be a great synth.

Aside from the weird Japanese "ethnicity" his app is solid and the player is trustworthy. Any flaws the app possess are ones that I can easily overlook.

+1 from me. Hope to see you soon, rustbucket.

This is great! I can show the Chief Engineer just how useful I am!

Just above in the CIC, the Commander hunches over the map table, realizing something. "Scheisse, who installed the cannon loading protocols in the synth?"

BOOM
What just went on here? Is Tyumi saying "This is great! I can show the Chief Engineer how useful I am!" outloud, thinking it, or something else?

And does the BOOM imply that the ship got attacked or the synth fucked up and blew up a part of the Almayer?

It's just like one of my Japanese animes!

""You mind giving us back our defib, Tyumi? The Commander needs you to load the Air to Air cannons!"
Is the CMO saying this? Loading cannons goes under the authority of the CE or actual command officers, since it's something done by MT's usually.

Its just a cute ending/headcanon lore on why the anti-air emplacement in Astronav is broken; there isn't a wiki page for reloading the nonfunctional gun, hence "Scheisse, who installed the cannon loading protocols in the synth?"

Haha, thats just from my personal experience of bald CMOs thinking they're Command staff. Of course, you'd ask the Engineering head if he'd like you to load it for him when applicable for the shift.

Synths don't really have feelings and just operate logically, their quirk is more or less a trait they just display programmed into them on top of that and I'm not sure how much it would factor into how you would operate as a synth.

How would you actually go about seeking and getting affirmation from humans, at what point would it be unreasonable for your synth to do so? I'm also uncertain about the japanese ethnic thing since it isn't on the app now.

The app is almost there overall and there isn't an issue with the quirk necessarily, but you have a low post count and some parts in the story make it questionable on whether you understand how synths operate as well as their protocols.

When I get the opportunity to interact with somebody, its not something done passively. I fix man, man get up, "You did well out there marine, stay safe." And if the marine would say thanks, I'd known I did my job well. I don't want to be offputting or standoffish, if I see somebody hobbling along, not in serious medical condition but still obviously injured, I'll ask them if they need any help; more often than not, there's usually always time to speak with someone inbetween, even if everyone else is demanding your attention, ya know?

The japanese ethnic thing was kind of blown out of proportion with my cyberpunk gushing. His name is just alluding to his place of origin, like how my marine is named "Jason Hakim," I don't go around saying "AS SALAAM ALAIKUM BROTHER," but instead just allude through roleplay to my origins on Luna, and how I was a typical American of the melting pot, of arab descent but having a southern US dialect(gotta get writing out my dossier!)

Sorry about the low post count on the forums, as of this post atleast half of all of my forum posts are in this very thread! I've always been a bit shy when it comes to official forums like this, preferring a relaxed environment like IRC or Discord. I'm still here, aware of the community, but I usually only speak up if I feel what I'm saying is important.

I would support this, all of my experiences with Hakim have been incredibly positive, even outside of roles that are normally expected/pressured to RP. They know their shit, and I think would do a fine job as synth.
