Local Bunny-Man Rants and Announces His Temporary Departing

Post by AmazinglyAmazing » 11 Dec 2018, 00:18

Hey everyone I'm gonna rant for a bit

So yeah, I'm gonna be taking a break from CM for a bit (even though I just got back into playing maybe a good week and a half ago). This is where I say the generic 'Things aren't the same' bull crap.

But lately the games have just been meh or flat out frustrating as hell, especially as Command. (My opinion) Command is a joke leadership-wise. And I don't mean there aren't good people playing the roles. It's just Command and how much they can do. I worked hard, and constantly rethought for weeks, maybe even a month or two for applying for CO. Figured I could make stuff interesting. But trying to make things even semi-interesting is nearly impossible when half of your marines wander off to do their own thing rather than follow orders given to them. Then later they complain how Command was horrible and didn't do anything when the marines gave them almost no chance to do anything cause they've already ran off.

The squad stereotypes are a big thing with this. I can understand them all: Alpha being the all around decent squad that usually has newer players, Bravo being the more competent FOB builders, Charlie being more RP Heavy and being fine with about anything, and Delta being the unga and muscle that is more than happy to charge into death, but aren't fans of FOB duty. These stereotypes affect what squads people roll for- so when they get FOB duty when they wanted to go and shoot xenos right after landed, they're disappointed and mad. It's one thing for maybe one or two marines in a squad (or in every squad) to wander off and do their own thing- doesn't hurt too much. But take an entire squad to do something else you feel like doing rather than listening to Command who ordered you there for a specific reason that can jeopardize an entire Op? That's an issue. And it's worse cause people can get away with it since it's considered an IC issue, so player reports are about near useless. MPs can't do squat on the ground half the time, and marines could care less if they're marked for insubordination. There's no penalty for them. Then when an Op goes to complete hell and Command makes one screw up, or says one thing wrong, suddenly it's their fault for not taking responsibility and trying to retain order when they barely have the power to do that in the first place.

I dunno how other Commanders do it. Maybe it's because they're not as sensitive, maybe because they're a hell of a lot more tolerant to crap like that and have a shit ton more experience than me (which is probably the big and main reason). Regardless, huge respect towards them and to anyone else who applies to become a Commander. I think it's just time for me to throw in the towel for a bit and enjoy myself. I'm just getting tired about being concerned about if I can be creative enough to make rounds interesting, or constantly checking Discord to see when the next announcement for a new map or test comes up so I can get used to it and have a general understanding so marines maybe don't get stomped when I roll Command. I need to be more worried about classes and extra-curricular stuff. Granted, I have decent grades and all but- it'll probably help me if I just left for a bit. Being called 'retarded', an 'idiot', 'bald', and being told to go fuck myself and to quit playing CO constantly is something I'd rather not listen to for a bit.

A big thank you to the many friends I've made, whether they're players or staff. I've been playing CM for about two years I believe, and It's pretty weird but amazing to see where we've gone from then to now. Many good moments and memories were made playing this game, a lot of hours and nights of just 2-D space men shooting xenos. It's funny to see how such a smaller game like this can be more enjoyable replayable than a AAA game. Honestly, this break will probably be a good month and a half, maybe two If I'm lucky and not bored as hell not playing this for such a while. I'll still be on the forums and happy to talk to anyone on Discord whether it's on CM's server or in DMs. Once again, thank you all so much, and cya soon!

Man, and I just got back after a 5+ month hiatus. Always sad to see someone go, especially a fellow charlie grunt like you. Best wishes my mans.
Phillip Driver, jack of all trades, reliable in some. Your typical jumpy flamer PFC or ammo fumbling CPL, always has a pair of ballistic goggles on him for unknown reasons. Will probably die mid sentence, because he talks (and gets bullied) too much for his own good. He has his moments though.

Jim, a Gen 2 Synthetic. Has a tendency to get melted to bits when planet side, and that's when he's behind barricades. Despite that, he's vigilant and always ready to drag you out of danger, even if it damages him in the process.

Command takes time to get right.

Everyone has their own playstyles to get the results, and they won't work all the time or at the very least it takes time to get a reputation.

Regarding squads failing to follow orders, SLs MUST follow the orders to the best of their ability (unless they have a really viable reason why they can't) or they risk being boinked.

Use MPs to enforce your will on the rest of the chaps who cause issues and reward those who do their job well.

If full squads go AWOL and put the whole mission at risk, withdraw all their support, supplies and mark the relevant people to be dealt with. Sometimes it's better to focus on making an example and the roleplay rather than an arbitrary higher chance of winning by letting them run amok in a selfish manner.

Regardless, Command role is still being fine tuned, sometimes it will be frustrating as hell. Sometimes it won't. You should try SL if you want a break from the tedious nature of constant overwatch command.
