Sorry to see you go man.

Even though our interaction over time was brief, you've been the biggest inspiration to me to get involved in the community and I've always enjoyed reading your feedback around the forums.

Have a good one, /N.

For a second I thought CJ was leaving the server because it put me on the second page, but this is even worse. While we may never have talked at all (I literally never remember talking to you), it's still sad af to see you go.

Best wishes,

I haven't talked to you personally, but I think you are a rational and sane person, and among other things one of the most important people to this server.

My lord.....your computer breaks for a bit, and you come back to noize going out for cigarettes. Well man....I'm sad, but I respect your decision. We ended up on the staff team around the same time, and you've been a great member to it. Now if only I could find his PO box, we could be pen pals.

Later Mr. Forwardslash , had aspirations on being in the Deb team with ya, but you have a life to live and there are the other guys too. It was pretty darn great to know you and it was rather awesome to have you as our coder, as your features and Lore have given us more insight to the next big thing. We'll be sure to make your dreams come true (did anyone tell you that you write what you intend on closed suggestions/bug reports A LOT?)
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

N is one of the most dedicated and hardworking individuals I have ever had the pleasure to work with.
He has set a standard with his work as both a developer and an administrator that all game devs should hope to achieve.
Under N's management, CM has become more than just an SS13 variant and almost a game in it's own right.

N, you've left some big boots to fill and I'll do my best to do so, but there's only one you.

Thank you for everything.

Hate to see you leave, but love to watch you go ;)

But in all seriousness you know you're going to be missed, the things you've done for this community will never be replicated or outdone. Good luck on whatever you decide to do and I hope you find as much success as you did here.

Adios /n, and hopefully you'll add another forward slash to your name.

Am gonna miss yah, I remember back in the day pre-alpha from start to now; how we looked and how funny we muhreens looked to badass graphics for a 2D, wew. Furthermore, fixing them bugs and making new updates; changing and making things a bit unique. /N, you'll be missed, yer coding and hard work; hope to see yah in future ventures or perhaps catch yah on the server a few.

We've had our differences before N, but I can say without a doubt that it has been an absolute pleasure working with you. Your dedication to this server has been second to none, and you almost single-handedly turned the dev team from a group of coders who just kinda did whatever whenever to a team with direction, aspirations, and a goal for what CM should and will become.

I have never met a more forward-thinking person in such a niche environment. While we operated different departments, I was always proud to call you a teammate. Your time here has been more than appreciated, and I hope we see you back in the future. Thank you.

Thank you for the kind words, everyone. To address something specifically:
TheMaskedMan2 wrote: I suppose in conclusion, if I wanted to join development. (As I actually thought about it before being a mod), where would I start? and I mean, really start?
I started by downloading the sourcecode to SS13 and making a map. Then I wanted to add things to the map. Then I wanted to change some things, and so on. You don't need to know much about coding before you begin, but having the motivation to constantly learn is probably the most important aspect. You have to be interested and motivated, everything else will come with practice. I have a fairly large list of resources for DM at this point, and if you do join the dev team, I have a primer written up explaining the various ins and outs of DM. It's somewhat outdated at this point, but as with most things about coding, you constantly improve and learn better ways of doing things. Here are some basics:

TG's Code Guide is a nice place to start.
DM Reference Document will come in handy when referencing just about anything DM.
DM Undocumented Reference Document will come in handy for some of the more esoteric functions, like to and step.
Guide to Runtime Errors will make your life a lot easier in the long run, as debugging is sometimes the most time consuming thing you will be doing.

There are a few other things you should know when working with DM that do not necessarily have much to do with DM itself. Specifically bitflags, html, and regex. Bitflags are used in manipulating certain variables faster and more efficiently, html is used to format text, and regex is used for a variety of things, though usually text string search and replacement. I would say mastering DM and getting into good programming habits is more important initially, so I wouldn't worry about that stuff until later. And if in doubt, ask.

This Is supportive for anyone who would like to begin messing with DM. Myself, as a mapper, find this valuable.

You were one of the most important aspects that made our game walk forth Instead of looking back. Without any doubts, you were and always will be one of the pedestals of the Community we've today. Thank you for everything you've done, have a good one, N.
