Some RO quality of life

Post by Abbysynth » 02 Dec 2016, 16:34

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): I've been playing RO a lot and while I enjoy it, there's a lot of screaming involved. Here's a few ideas I think would help make things much less shitty;

* When a supply pad has an active associated beacon, the pad lights up brightly
* Some platinum sheets scattered around the map for cargo points. Plasma does not give points. There are 2 platinum sheets on map but that's only 10 cargo points, they are 5 each.
* WAY cheaper ammunition crates, they are twice as expensive as they need to be, especially the garbage standard ammo crate (should be 10, not 30)
* More costly, but less randomized black market crates -- black market SMG, black market shotgun, etc, each 40 points.
* 1 incendiary ammo box in the vendor. I don't even care about all the pages of empties that are never filled, just give me 1 box so I can stop screaming at the CO or get someone to bomb the armory
* DNA-Unlockable Ripley
* Remove the RO office or make it smaller and put it in the warehouse back room; use the extra space to make the initial line longer and a space for the cargo team to put equipment free for taking (I usually build racks/tables and dismantle the chairs)
* Toolbelt for RO
* Insulated gloves for CTs
* Wooden crates made with 5 sheets of wood, is super easy to break vs normal crates and gives 0 cargo points, but can be used in the launchers

Redshirts are planned.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

This is a slighty spread out post and i have mixed support on some of it:

+1 to having landing pads light up when a supply beacon is ready for deployment. You cant pick up landing beacons once their placed so we dont have to worry about disco pad lights

+1 to cheap ammo crates ( possibly 5 points per crate and just have it be made out of wood to reduce the cost dramatically?)

-1 on black market crates, i like that they are randomized.

+1 toolbelts for the RO

+1 for insulated gloves for the CT.

+1 wooden crate: it would be nice to have a choice

Here's how I'm leaning, but I'll sticky this for the moment:

* When a supply pad has an active associated beacon, the pad lights up brightly
* Some platinum sheets scattered around the map for cargo points. Plasma does not give points. There are 2 platinum sheets on map but that's only 10 cargo points, they are 5 each. Nothing gives cargo points except returning crates
* WAY cheaper ammunition crates, they are twice as expensive as they need to be, especially the garbage standard ammo crate (should be 10, not 30)
* More costly, but less randomized black market crates -- black market SMG, black market shotgun, etc, each 40 points. Nope
* 1 incendiary ammo box in the vendor. I don't even care about all the pages of empties that are never filled, just give me 1 box so I can stop screaming at the CO or get someone to bomb the armory Nope, this ammo is restricted
* DNA-Unlockable Ripley
* Remove the RO office or make it smaller and put it in the warehouse back room; use the extra space to make the initial line longer and a space for the cargo team to put equipment free for taking (I usually build racks/tables and dismantle the chairs) Irrelevent due to recent Cargo changes
* Toolbelt for RO I don't see a reason for an Officer to need tools, especially the 5th in command of the ship.
* Insulated gloves for CTs CTs are NOT engineers and this is not "Cargonia". They shouldn't be hacking or doing anything that puts them at electrical shock risk.
* Wooden crates made with 5 sheets of wood, is super easy to break vs normal crates and gives 0 cargo points, but can be used in the launchers

The issue with ammunition crates is that there never seems to be a good reason to order them, as opposed to telling the Marines to go pick up their empty magazines and refilling them in Prep.

In extreme cases, you may have to order an ammo crate because the Marines managed to squander every single last magazine on the entire ship, but if this happens you're probably fucked

So, wherever the ammo crate costs 10 points, 5 points or 1 point barely matters. 30 points however, is ridiculous. Ammo isn't that precious

Sentry also costs too much; 120 points with no crate rebate? The opportunity cost of that is way too high given what you can get in terms of explosives and plasteel otherwise with points to spare. The only time a sentry is worth its points is situationally when you're ladder/hangar camping on the Campaco. For example, after crate and supply manifest rebates 3x Explosive/Plasteel in any combination costs about as much as one sentry crate. 100 points would be much more suitable.

That said, I agree with pretty much all of these proposals.

Also please add a disposal pipe connecting the armory vendors and storage area with disposals so valuable things marines and doctors toss out all the time can be easily retrieved without having to build a custom supply line.

But isnt Ripley already unlockable? You just need to swipe your ct ID and then remove cargo access - Ripley is free to use by anyone. And then you also can set any other access.

Would you rather have a flankable sentry gun that runs on ammo and power or four boxes of grenades and mines, or four boxes of plasteel to just make an autismo fort out of briefing with? I still take the turret, but that's personal preference/idiocy. +1 to reducing the cost, especially considering some sentries aren't even retrieved from Engineer Vendors and few people go to the effort of hacking all the way to them to get them out.

Honestly, the amount of boom in 3x explosive crates probably kills far more aliens over its lifetime than a sentry ever will.

The plan was to make the explosive crates look more appealing but I forgot to mention you'll end up with 16 mines and roughly 24 grenades of varying types. Not to mention the mines engineers get from their vendors.

Explosive crates are probably fine; it's sentries that I feel are overpriced.

I'm going to +1:
Lighting up supply pads
Cheaper ammo crates
Less random black market crates(Not necessarily in the way he put it, but those things get really FUNNY for people working in cargo)

Thats some real nice stuff. +1
Janina 'Bullseye' Jardine- Never misses, but what she DOES hit is another thing

This place would be so much better if marines were replaced with cyborgs, atleast those would follow orders. assuming there was a rule forcing them to do so...

We gonna implement some of these yet?

Re-add the collectible hat crate at its 200 point cost. I'm serious. That thing is great for roleplay. Not the serious kind but still leads to great situations.

Can coffins be droppable until we get crates we can drop?
