Rework the buckshot spread a bit

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):Rework the buckshot spread to be tighter, more realistic, and less of a goddamn joke.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):You will be able to hit targets that are five tiles away and have them notice it, and cut down on the incredibly needless friendly fire that happens if someone goes diagonally in front of you when you fire.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):Currently, max buckshot range is five or six tiles away, and at that point it's barely a scratch for xenos. Change the range to be a bit longer, like two tiles more, and set the cone of fire to 30 degrees instead of 45, because there is no way in hell buckshot would have a ridiculous spread like that, not even from a rifled barrel. The only way to achieve that IRL would be a small explosive charge nestled amidst the shot, rigged to blow as soon as it exits the barrel.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):Coding. Just tweak a few values set for the buckshot and it will work.

Buckshot already is viewed as the better of slugs, so this just isn't needed. -1

Why are you trying to get this rejected by comparing the buckshot to slugs when I didn't mention them once?
It does not relate to my suggestion whatsoever.
And in fact, it would maybe even make it harder to use buckshot, since panicked fire in the general direction would no longer guarantee a hit on a diagonal xeno.

Because buckshot is incredibly powerfull, and if all additonal buckshot hits with the shotgun buckshot, you can kill or put something into crit very quickly, this essentially makes them even more powerfull

My best guess is CM shotguns have a rifled barrel AND a duckbill choke.
+1, buckshot needs to be more realistic (and less damaging), and slugs need to be somewhat stronger, on that note.

So you have a problem with buckshot being able to do the same damage a tile away when it could do the same point blank? I'm not asking to make it a one hit kill for long ranges, I'm asking to make it not hit diagonal entities, so you can't hit a marine next to you with it. It wouldn't change the damage, it would make it much less likely to kill your friend.

It doesn't do same point blank, if you shoot a xeno point blank, no additonal buckshot appears, and you probably shouldn't be standing next to somebody when shooting at things with a SHOTGUN, use a Rifle if you are a guy about being together

If this was implemented then literally there would be no reason to ever use slugs. Right now they have a range of about 5-6 tiles on a good shot and don't have any spread with moderate damage. With this implemented buckshot would become very overpowered compared to the other option causing us to probably have to remove most of it from the venders and make it like AP

Have you seen someone use slugs in the past month?
Nobody uses them, and at least this way you wouldn't get killed for standing next to someone.

That's my point! Already ALMOST no one uses slugs, so if anything we should be buffing them not the thing that's already really powerful if your good!

You can kill other marines with anything if you aim like shit, misclick, they run in front of you, switch places, using help intent... but no other weapon kills by hitting the tile northwest/southwest of you if you fire straight fucking west. No amount of quickfire-burst SMG spraying will ever achieve the same spread of the shotgun shell you fire. The only other analogy to that spread is a sawed off shotgun so short the shell peeks through the end of the barrel when it fires.

Missed this little gem, by point blank I don't mean UNGA DUNGA HARM INTENT ONLY INTENT, I mean you fire the gun at something three tiles away as something goes right in fucking front of you.
