Hivelord: Communication

Post by DementedKitty » 15 Feb 2017, 14:10

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
The hivelord needs better communications and clarity with its tunnels. In it's current state, if it lets the hive know where it's made tunnels with ":a", it tends to just get caught up in the chat log. The tunnels are also hard to find if they're not just out in the open in the main nest.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
-It would make the Hivelord's role much easier to communicate and clarify things with the entire hive about the tunnels and its locations. This xeno is supposed to be the hive's lord after all.
-It makes more sense for him to have a bigger part in the role of making and expanding the hive while the mother lays eggs and continues with whatever she needs rather than have to continually worry about the defenses and expansion.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
I've thought up 3 different ways for communcations:
1. Would relay a message similar to when an alien dies, except when a tunnel is made in an area.
2. Could gain the reverberate ability similar to the queen so it could just instead tell the locations of the tunnels.
3. A quick color change to the hivelord name so it stands out more, it would have more presence in the hive.
Add them all to him, add the ones you think would work better, they all help in communicating with the hive for expansion and defenses better than the role currently is having trouble with.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
I think most of these are already implemented into the game, it would just have to be transferred over to the Hivelord role.

First off, this has already been suggested by someone else AND you can already tell where a tunnel leads by alt-clicking on one as an alien, doesn't work as a marine though.

I've looked around the forum and didn't see anything on it, so I tried my own.

It's just a few posts above this one, it wasn't that hard to find.

This is a different suggestion about giving hivelords a different channel voice style, not about naming tunnels.
Gaze upon me,
for I have wandered deep into the ancient tombs of knowledge to which lie madness and sorrow, cleansing a path for all those who walk behind me...

...

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!

~Furthermore, I consider that Floodlights should no longer be destroyed.~

that would actually be pretty neat
Janina 'Bullseye' Jardine- Never misses, but what she DOES hit is another thing

This place would be so much better if marines were replaced with cyborgs, atleast those would follow orders. assuming there was a rule forcing them to do so...
