Reword Theft

Post by ExGame » 16 Mar 2017, 08:36

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Reword it from "To retain possession of items belonging to another marine." into "To retain possession of items belonging to any other personnel."

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): MPs don't use it as an excuse to not punish shit being stolen from non-Marines. One MP once told me that stealing from Civilians like Doctors is completely fine by that logic.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
William Frost - An old guard USCM Officer
- "The easy way generally gets you killed."

Wolf Anderson - Eccentric NCO
- "When it's clicking like that you need to reload!"

Rewording Marine Law to exempt yourself from consequences is neglect of duty, further worsened by Unbecoming Of An Officer. The subject in question knew what the law meant, but proceeded to bend it so he wouldn't be held accountable. +1 Shit like this is getting real annoying, and MPs need some discipline.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Actually, only Lieutenants+ (and Ensigns) are considered Officers. So a SSGT MP comitting crimes is not unbecoming of an officer.

MPs are held to a higher standard because of their role, and because of the gear they're being issued, abusing their role should be met with a more severe punishment.

Rule 0.1 RULES AS INTENDED. Just because you bend the wording of a rule into a pretzel and don't break the specific RAW (Rule As Written) does not mean you didn't break the RAI (Rule As Intended). Rules can be subject to interpretation and if a staff member that is a Mod or above believes you broke a rule as it is INTENDED to function, you can expect the same consequences.

He's talking about Marine Law, Feweh, not the Server Rules.

Same principle though.
This applies IRL laws as well generally.

Yes but people can use the finnicky wording to try to convince higher ups. Maybe put a "law as intended" law into marine law so MPs can't use it as an excuse? That way it'll cover all your bases.

Yeah but half the MPs pepperspray themselves, and tasing just doesn't feel as good as the skull-cracking law delivering goodness of a stunbaton to the temple.

Seriously, there's plenty of times people do technically ahelp for shit like this.
A very common one is "I only disarmed him, I'm being arrested for assault despite not harming the MP".

Listen motherfucker, you go up to a cop in-real life and start disarming him, grabbing his gear or pushing him. You bet your fucking ass you're going to be charged with assault.

I constantly tell these type of people to fuck off, as they're just trying to skate by the rules as written.

I was under the impression pushing was covered under assault de-facto.

It doesn't mention physical harm, and even threats of violence fall under it.

+1, honestly, writing things to be more clear never hurt anybody and it really helps keep *everyones* headaches and tumors down. Clarity is seeing shit for what it is, always good to have.

Also i thought this said reward theft, woo i was like wtf hehe.
Gaze upon me,
for I have wandered deep into the ancient tombs of knowledge to which lie madness and sorrow, cleansing a path for all those who walk behind me...

...

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!
