Give Sniper Specs more Sniper ammo

Summary: Buff the Sniper Spec by giving them, in addition to their usual magazine spawn, three ammo boxes (that can fit in a backpack) that have a large supply of Sniper bullets (30 or so bullets) for each of the three sniper types. Also set it that Sniper ammo resupply crates have more magazines/bullets in them.

Benefits: The sniper is lackluster and the sniper meta is to ditch the sniper and get a three attachment M41A (RDS, Extended, foregrip) and combo that with your NVGs. The sniper suffers many issues but the one I would like to suggest be altered is to give Sniper Specs more ammunition for their Sniper rifle.

While I agree that the Sniper is a support weapon that is not meant to get kills, but when it becomes far superior for a Sniper Spec to just ditch their rifle and use a stock M41A over it then I think it becomes a major issue needing to be addressed.

I find it saddening that they ditch their sniper rifles for an M41A.

I don't know how to make the Sniper more valuable but I am seeing a common theme of Sniper Specs ditching the Sniper as its simply not as good as a M41A.

A M41A with a sniper scope can do the same job a Sniper can but better.

At least giving more ammo to both Sniper roles might slightly help things.

Play Requisitions for any length of time and you will realsie that snipers that want to stay snipers will ask you to restock their incendiary magazines a half-dozen times, taking out the bullets so that they can reload in the field.

The meta is to use a Red Dot Sight, Extended Barrel and Forward Grip. The idea is to use it in a very aggressive manner to chase fleeing xenos while coupling it with your NVG. Abusing the NVG lets you have fantastic visibility and lets you attack and chase xenos into areas that 99% of marines would never be able to do, either from lack of information or simple lack of light visibility.

If you need a sniper weapon then either replacing the RDS with a scope, or getting a revolver and slapping the scope on that, gives you long range power and a way to harass Boilers.

While it lacks the damage of the sniper but that hardly means anything when the sniper already has a very hard time actually killing anything at range to begin with. Long range sniping in CM is more about supression and the fear of damage, no actually harming or killing enemies.

I have not personally seen them ditch the sniper for an M41A, but that might've been because I wasn't paying attention. Having more ammo would definitely help though, since ROs often "forget" to order it unless someone wants a powerpack.

Actually last round I went with the quickfire, grip, and extended barrel. Far better than a sniper rifle. Flak on the sniper rifle is shit, caseless ammo is... eh, and incendiary is good but you only have fifteen bullets of it. Would you rather essentially play shitty long range flamethrower who gets to set an alien on fire fifteen times (never actually having any effect since at long distance they'll just take cover and put themselves out) or use the advantages of your NVG and recon armor, that is, running faster and seeing everything around you?

Plus you're not even losing the benefits of a sniper if you just give your ammo to the other sniper spec, now he gets to actually be aggressive with his bullets instead of just counting down the shots until he's a near useless spotter.

Something I'm gonna try next time I get sniper spec is gyro, red dot, extended barrel. Binos in one hand to find targets, rifle in the other to hunt them down.


Sniper spec would be equal in value to the other specs if they had infinite caseless and flak ammo, and cargo had to order incendiary ammo for them.

So basically, more sniper ammo in specialist crates? Having more incedinary rounds at the start is just pushing it. Either increase damage or increase the number of mags in the crates

Limiting the ammo supply for Sniper specialists is really the only thing blocking Snipers from rampaging for the entire round if they place themselves smartly

That's extremely unlikely to happen. Snipers are nowhere as weak as they used to be, and don't need more buffs, especially since rocket specs got taken down a big notch with the explosives fix

But nobody ever noticed the lack of ammo or thought it was a big deal before because snipers weren't good at all.

1) Ask your squad medic for their first aid kit
2) Go to medical and ask for another first aid kit
3) Go to Requisitions and ask to be let in the back
4) Click on incendiary ammo with empty hand, restock incendiary magazine and repeat
5) Put bullets into the first aid kits. Use your smock (bigger backpack) and webbing to store even more.
6) Deploy with 300 incendiary bullets secreted around your person
7) 360 no-scope T1's with incendiary bullets because you have a limitless supply

Then restrict how much special ammo Snipers can get, the biggest issue I had as a Sniper (granted this was before all the big changes to Specialists) was that I ran out of plain sniper bullets just by suppressing a boiler. So I had to resort to switching to special ammo, then just having to move on otherwise I'd run out completely. However I did go back to the ship to restock, but I believe the CT's had to hack the vendor to refill my mags.

That's considered powergaming, and you will get noted / banned for doing that.

Do snipers have to shoot so often? They really should be conserving that ammo for boilers to keep them a bay instead of shooting every alien they see.

Then again, I don't go sniper often enough to know the beef of it, but still... Shouldn't be spraying that so much.

Have to agree with Reno here, when I go sniper I typically only need one resupply an operation. You don't need to shoot at every Xeno you see, thing about being a sniper is conserving ammo, and knowing when its worth it to fire, and when its useless. There is no point in shooting that crusher way behind enemy lines, because it's going to heal, you aren't driving it back from attacking marines, and it isn't weak. The ammo can feel awfully low at times, but really, a single resupply + taking your empty mags back up. More than enough ammo.

this should be accomplished by separating sniper ammo supply buys from smartgun ammo supply buys and appropriate re-pricing, not more free ammo at the start

also, you guys seem to have a big problem with this whole "restock to replenish" function you have given vending machines. you should consider removing that if its so bad, you know? then you wont have to waste time policing people for doing it

Its all well and good to argue "shoot less" and "be more conservative" but when we are at a point where a three attachment M41A is better than a Sniper rifle, coupled with NVGs, then I think there is a serious issue.

that sounds more like the weapon itself needs buffs, rather than an ammo supply issue. what exactly does it do better than the sniper? is it the ammo capacity per mag? the accuracy? rate of fire?

maybe the magazines could be changed to hold more shots? then youre getting more shots per mag and a slight bump in starting ammo, plus any more purchased ammo will have more shots and more value

I could deploy with twice the ammo for zero cost, or I could hamstring myself and only deploy with three magazines out of some bizzare honour code. Retarded, but I don't play sniper so what do I care.
