Allow the Machete to 'dig' Dense Jungle Wall tiles

Post by Gentlefood » 28 Mar 2016, 23:56

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):Title, replace them with regular jungle tiles.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Lets marines cut their way through the jungle if necessary.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Lets the machete be used for what machetes were actually used for and not a pseudo-sword.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Code.

I can see it now, a bald jungle with metal grilles everywhere, goes right along with marines rushing for mining tools and mining the caves. I'd rather not have that.

It would be interesting if aliens were allowed to dig into the jungle walls too. Perhaps the jungle might even "Spread" like vines. Although I expect that would just encourage people to skip briefing even more. Something like a "When cut, two come back in its place"? Who knows.

But yea, on its own, as a marine only ability (Or even if xenos got it too), it probably wouldn't work.
TLDR: Go back and read it. I spent time writing that, ya know.

Rarely.
And when it does,it usually ends with marines losing.

Honestly, I think it would be a good idea. The thought of hacking though dense vegiation right before something mauls me is appealing to me. Though if this is a thing, I'm of the opinon aliens should get to use the jungle as well somehow, perhaps letting runnings run through the dense vegitation, due to their sleek build?

In that case the jungle walls would need to randomly regrow throughout the round

I've tossed it around before to have xenos freely pass through jungle tiles and have them regrow after being hacked apart, but not much came of it. Unfortunately, our coder's pretty swamped at the moment.

Destructible terrain needs to be handled carefully. There will need to be different sorts of tile types to limit player movement in some way. Already I think there is too much benefit to the marine side if they concentrate on removing natural obstacles with mining picks.

+1 on the condition that some unremovable thick jungle tiles get added as well.

Heaven forbid my immersion is ruined and I see that the colony is actually just a small walled in platform floating in space.

I think this idea is a great one, however my only nick with it is (well my only nick for it is if the jungle walls keep growing gets added as well.) because if the jungle walls keep growing, how are marines going to be able to cut them down if say a pesky xeno snatches up the three marines with machetes?

Be a real man and rip that jungle apart with your bare hands and boot knife of course.

+1. I can dig it(hue). As stated simply add the ability to cut the walls down at a MUCH slower pace with a boot knife and we'd be good here. Maybe even add the ability to torch them down with a flamer/incindenary.

oh god, please don't start using fire, logically it would spread, and we'd ALL be fucked.

Just make regular knives able to hack down jungle walls, but give machetes a damage multiplier against them so it's more efficient to use the machetes.

Looks like something that should be added because thats what the machete is used for, but in reality, no jungle walls block any path to key points of the maps making it a mechanic that will be used by people when they are bored or just because they can, but not because they really need that jungle wall removed, so, -1, unless in the future jungle wall block key points of the map.
