Medical job changes

Post by Jroinc1 » 28 May 2016, 13:04

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):Reduce the number of doctors. Add a new job, Intern, that can do all tasks, except surgery. Whitelist CMO and doctor jobs.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):Less bad medical, more chance to RP AND an ability to get some IC training ingame, fewer muhreen vets who didn't get the job they wanted, got reassigned to doctor because byond picked a job at random, have no clue how to do it, and kill like 7 injured via malpractice... less hate on me just cause I'm a doc :D

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):Whitelist CMO and doctors.

In order to get on this whitelist, ALL you have to do is adminhelp, and ask to be put on the whitelist. That's it.
It's meant to be a defense against accidental job selection/ people who pick the most complex job at random and don't know how to do it/ that guy who did 3 surgeries yesterday as CMO... without knowing how to use anesthetics, killing two of the 3 (I saved the third), or knowing how to treat infections (4 guys with 3/4 infections apiece, not being given antibiotics OR anti-tox... he was giving CPR... yeah).

So how will they learn? The intern job. Basically a squad medic that stays on the Sulaco medbay, these guys are the stabilizers of medbay. They get to learn to treat patients using normal doctoring tools, get to use the chemmaster to learn chemistry, and have the support of hopefully more experienced doctors for advice/when the shit hits the fan. So many docs jump straight into surgery without actually treating the patient first, which strikes me as badly wrong. As one of the most (possibly THE most robust... angelo pearsall) docs on this server, I don't like the amount of medical hate going around, OR the fact that most docs deserve it.
This can fix some of that.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):Remove 2 doc slots, whitelist doc and CMO, add 2 intern slots.

we only have like...2/3 Doc slots. If you get rid of two that's 2 people on the ENTIRE server that can do surgery ICly.-1

I've seen 5 doctors and a CMO, with 4 AFK. Not sure if that's an AFK thing, though. If that IS the case, though, I'd drop the reduce doctors part.

I think the lack of doctors stems from the initial round boredom they face, where the marine's haven't taken casualties yet. This server isn't like Aurora where the players are use to waiting for hours before something happens.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

Please don't whitelist doctor roles, I want to be able to play marine safely knowing there's at least one doctor who can do surgery. -1

Doctor is doing shit wrong? LOOC. He should know his duty and it's not META to inform him he's doing it wrong.

Doctors are AFKing? Put them in Cryo so others take the place.

Doctors are shit? Well report them after you tried to give them the CM wiki for surgery and know-how... Or just take the role?

Things like that, you know where I'm going. -1, doctors should never be whitelisted it'll just put more work on admins to code & handle it.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

Read the whitelist. ALL you have to do to get on it is ask a staff member. No quiz, no application.

I read, it's exactly the same reply you get, added with the fact most players will have to go through this and it'll just be an hindrance.

-1?

You say this is to prevent 'accidental selection', but we do not need to add something to whitelist and cause more trouble for staff when you can already do that in your job prefs by setting it to 'Never' and change that text at the bottom to 'Return to Lobby if Pref Unabailable. I have it set to that ALL THE TIME so I don't get shunted into jobs I dislike. It's also a much better way to get survivor or alien if you toggle EVERY job to never, but leave Survivor and Alien on in antag prefs. If you don't get them you can just observe or spawn in as a marine or something.

USCM would not send interns or non trained medical officers to a military vessel thats on action, they only send trained staff

I agree. I have that checked. It's NOT the default preference.

Well, the amount of doctors has been expanded on, so im giving this a bump back up to see what people have to say about interns and what not. Personally, i think we can now have the slot space to substitute a doctor/s for a nurse/doctor in training or two. As for whitelisting, i am definitly not a fan of giving the staff more stuff to look after for. timelocks and other stuff i would be for thats automatic.
