I'd like to know specifically in a situation where I'm completely alone. Thanks.

well bud. Hiding is the least robust way but most likely to succeed.

Alternatively you could try finding a corner, isolated spot, or both and start building.
Setting up in the map's equivalent of a armory could also be a method or part of this that helps.

If you weld doors, rip up pipes, bolt doors and setup cades you could have a fighting version of holding out. Still...like I said earlier this is if you want action. If you just want to live find a locker or refrigerator and hide in there. You might live.

Use medscanners/sleepers to hide from new/uncaring aliens. Be sure to blast them first because they will eventually find you

Walling off is raret good option, what I found more interesting is to be an active runner. Have shotty with slug/flame and shoot all of them

Get a body bag and hide in an obscure area. Never fails me.

All of my survival attempts I have been trying to make a fort and just work with what I have, but I never have enough. For example sometimes I have a lot of metal and a room without vents, but no guns at all. Sometime it's the opposite. Sometime I have a welder but no mask, it's just kind of a mess, I always end up very dead.

Only times where I make it are made up of me just following whoever I meet hoping they know what they're doing.

Most times I survive it's barricaded with a group of 4 or more, all with guns and ammo.

If you can't find lockers/bodybags to hide in, rip up five wooden crates with your crowbar and use the wood to make a coffin.

How could xenos miss a bodybag ? They have nightvision, a closed bodybag would be a glowing beacon to them or I'm missing something here.

Check "Changelog". Every bodybag is now "smart" and won't take you if you are alive, or revivable.

The guns I tend to see as a survivor tend to have a round in the chamber and that's it. Given that by the time I find another weapon an alien has seen me and possibly alerted its friends I don't quite understand how people get the firepower to suppress any advances on whatever rudimentary fort the survivor(s) make...

try to remember where useful tools and weapons spawn such as the flamethrower in bigred's store, consider grabbing a welding helmet if you can so you can weld doors to provide some delay time as the acid needs time to work, or familiarize yourself with how to bolt doors. remember to seal the vents in the room youre in too naturally.

look at the maps and spot places with a narrow approach 1 or 2 tiles wide to cade yourself into, hopefully with the walls of the room made of impassable rock or hull or at least r-walls because by the time a boiler evolves and waddles over to you the marines will hopefully be well on their way. the warden's office and the monorail thing on prison station are kind of famous. the... i guess its an execution room? on bigred? the little room in the security jail building, off to the upper left. its made of r-walls and has a 2 tile wide approach, you can make it work. the elevator room in the aerodrome on ice colony maybe, if you cade up the approach instead of bolting or welding the door. maybe some of the storage domes if you can figure a way into them. secure storage and the security booth vault on lv are good but i dont really know how to break in offhand
