Should the CMP be a whitelisted Character?

Post by Accinator50 » 12 Aug 2018, 10:01

Hey, I want to hear your opinions! Should the CMP be a whitlisted Character ?
I think that everybody knows such rounds: The CMP is completely incompetent ( of course also good CMP exists).
For example:
The round already started and all the marines were already planetside as I joined the round. As I went to the REQ line 3 delta marines just attacked me and the RO just said: I see nothing... I was able to escape and I ran into REQ and informed the MP. As the CMP came he arrested me and said that I'm arrested for trespassing. He won't believe me that I was attacked even as I showed him the Chat Logs. He just said: They are fake...

And that wasn't the only round the CMP was incompetent:
In another round I played as a researcher and a MP let me into Brig to watch an execution of an survivor.
After the execution the CMP arrested me for insub... only because I talked the whole execution with the survivor... I contacted the Staff and then they talked to the CMP and the CMP told them that I was arrested for trespassing but he never told me that I have to go or I'm arrested for that... I even told the Staff Member it but they hadn't answer me... I think they ignored me...

And I can give you thousands of other examples where the CMP was just a bad player....

I know that also good CMPs exists but those could be whitlisted and I also know that it is a lots of fun playing CMP but the CMP must be a competent player because he defends the server rules ( Marine Law).
Of course also some bad things could happen if the CMP would be whitlisted for example no one would play the role... but whitlisted characters are nearly never unplayed...
I want to hear some other opinions from other players...
What do you think about it ?
Am I just a mad guy or do you agree ?

No, because then it gives them even more license to softgrief. Whitelisting implies a sense of responsibility and that they can't really do wrong. Look at current commanders: You can't do anything to them in-game because their whitelist confers special treatment, if you want something done you need to make a player report because staff flat-out refuse to handle it via PMs, and even then they get preferential treatment because of their status, either as whitelisted or as staff.

Whitelisting CMPs will just result in this exact same problem.

I think Chaz has nailed it 100%, id like to say yes to the original question but i think what he mentioned is exactly what you would see happen.
Max Dallas has been hit in the chest by the M40 HEDP grenade.

I will murder you Brittany Breeze

"It was a fantastic round. If the CO hadn't cryo'ed before the end I'd have bothered him to give at least two more medals. To PFC Max Dallas, who kept doing the path between the frontlines to FOB (the only place with medical aid) with a roller bed, and saved a lot of marines who'd have husked otherwise. And to Dr. Haley Altman, who after all medics were gone was fixing us time and again for hours straight. At the end there were over 10 patients around her either dead or in crit, and she just kept going."

A Whitelist comes with perks. While I think Chaz doesn't quite understand that all whitelist roles have that protection, not just the CO whitelist. To answer your actual question. No it would not need it because its too much of a hassle. Not many MP players to begin with. And they are already pretty protected, they can't be BE'd and staff will usually respond to your faxes anways.

Of the few good CMP players we have, none of them seem to take the role seriously/often enough to actually go through the effort of a whitelist process. Accordingly, I think that a whitelist would and up concentrating shit players into that role rather than good ones.

As the occasional CMP, I am against it. If a CMP/MP does bad stuff IC, handle it IC and report it to HC. If a CMP/MP break rules, send an ahelp and let us do our jobs and investigate

A whitelist isnt something which would be terribly useful, unless we reworked the CMP role

You probably had a bad time, my faxes are usually answered and my Ahelps are for the most part responded to. But I can agree while I think staff should take a more proactive approach to it, some refuse to due to how stressful marine law can be to deal with. Thats just my opinion tho.
