In my opinion:

Having a more funneled method of gathering feedback from each side could be nice, but it isn't something that should be classified as a typical 'council'.

If anything, something like a 'VIP list' of players that are well known by staff and developers who are active in the community and give feedback/suggestions on gitlab, and give them a 'priority' on any feedback they want to make. They aren't elected by a popularity contest, they aren't voted in by the community, they are just added by the developers & general staff after a debate on slack or something.

Councils have the joint task of writing the new rules and policing reports, you don't really need a 'council' in that sense for each of the sides.

Or if we want, we could create a 'player representative' staff role, whose job is to basically be the first in line to recieve, process, and refine feedback/survey data for the devs and staff, which can make a more streamlined feedback system that isn't just people salting endlessly. It's not perfect, but I think it might be decent.
So... They are not elected by a "popularity contest", they are not voted by the community, they are elected by staff popularity contest.
There are five things in SS13 I don't trust:
- Xenomains
- MP mains
- Marines without nicknames
- People playing races that are basically a human/animal crossbread.
- CM Staff picks, decisions and statements uncorrected by whole community.

Otherwise we would still have xeno body dragging. "Man up and deal with it" once again in form of "non-typical council".

If that was a case as Dookysponut said, then conclusion expresses itself why instead of only marines complaining, now both sides complain.

This idea sounds nice...

But if it's based around players being the reps for their factions... I feel like it'll become a bit biased.
Everyone has different opinions, even people who supposedly are supporting the same group. Not to mention, similiarly, you'll end up having people who aren't thinking of balance, the group, or at times even their group...

Just look at politics... you get the mainstream and people in that, then the people not in the mainstream... the people in the mainstream but are outliers...etcetra.\

Alternatively:
Now, if I look just at the title of this discussion, which I didn't just do, and say the idea is gonna be a system of Devs taking positions for each side... that's a REALLY bad idea and will only increase factionalism and disunity in a team that should be focusing on balance and game design. It'll just fuck up the system.

In short. Sounds like a decent idea, but functionally I don't trust it at all. I'd rather have the prime decision making made by the Dev team with input coming in through discussions on the forums and on gitlab as it already is. As is, I like the system we have and changing it will probably do more harm then good.

When I said popularity contest, I mean people won't be getting the chance to go 'oh yeah I know X, he was hilarious with his lowrp memery that one time, I'll vote him just for the meme!' The development team can probably be allowed decide who'd they would want to give them feedback with the loudest voice, rather than just a horde of people saying shit like 'I don't like xeno mains, nerf xenos' 'I don't like marine mains, nerf marines' and so on with the vicious cycle.

Think of it like hiring a tester, that's basically what I was trying to get at.

Also who you don't trust isn't really relevant to this aside from hinting that you'd probably refuse to see the other side of arguments

In the end, people are just not realising that even if devs don't play and people shit on them for being so for some retarded reason.

Literally, 90% of the staff who aren't devs do play and we do talk about things when we test and do other things when we talk about concepts.
Also testing teams, pre-testing some of the concepts and ideas they come up with, sometimes devs do an internal 'public' testing that's not just the testing team.

And newer line of devs, and particularly the main ones right now sure as hell are more active and actually play too. Kinda ridiculous this whole don't play the game notion is.
(Dean, probably, neth and awan seems pretty active don't they?)

Also how many other devs who are listed right now have to be that more active or play as people think?
The spriters? The mappers? Do you people really care about what is being done out of 10 people who are helping to develop the server?

In the end, this is practically akin to just adding few people with extra ability to complain based on whatever people who are currently complaining are thinking, really unnecessary.
If there are rooms to say anything to this effect, just be proactive and be dev yourself.

Well Lesserline suggested it, make him your "advisor" if the idea goes through, seems fitting.Although this forum had a Suggestion thread for this already that got locked, people have asked for it to be made open again or something else to take its place and have been shot down...some even asked the appropriate admins at the time and got told "No" directly..

I don't use gitbal since I reported a bug and it wasn't fixed in -litterally- half a year, and the worst in that is the lack of feedbacks.
Similar results with me too, reported the Zoom macro issue months ago, made sure it was acknowledged by the appropriate admins at the time, several times and its still yet to be resolved.Got a copy of this code and decided to see how (F*&%ing) easy it surely would be to fix, even as someone with limited experience with ss13 code(or any code for that matter) and got it fixed pretty quickly so that the macro works again (wow, was that all it was) ...

the forums are barely ever used to make balance changes is the thing, you can post on the forums but at the end of the day whatever you post on the forums has absolutely zero bearing on what devs do
Myself and some others helped get the M39 and handgun boost changes to make them viable and more usable, but the energy it took to get it done was absurd compared to how easy/quickly the changes could be made once you removed the "Its hard to test/balance with a server of 50-200 population" excuse.

Sorry, can't quite understand what are your points here.

I fixed zoom bug as soon as I joined dev team and seen it, then Awan added macros.

Guns - whatever, we don't have right now a dedicated balancer because any balance change to any side may have a non-zero chance of that dev getting maximum assblasting on every media platform possible.

Elevator code for ships is awesome, keep doing whatcha doing, and maybe apply as coder. I'm using a different but close to it thing myself but I'm working on nightmare for prison right now and a bit bogged.

As for us ignoring the issues... Had you checked how many posts we have in this topic alone?
What about the activity in game?

Why I'm not responding on forums more often? Because every time I see shit like this I literally wanna say "fuck it. Is it even worth it?".

Yet still, I'm here

1. It is impossible to have a zoom macro that works the same as the old. I have made a completely new verb for this it is just there for rail attachments.
Just ahelp if you want the exact wording. There has been one for over a month. (It is one of the first things I did as a dev.)
A lot of minor things will always be left hanging for some time but the amount of bugs we have is decreasing.
2. Weapon changes are something we as dev's dislike to do. Small changes do not get noticed at all and big changes are bad. It is very hard to fight against the idea a weapon or item is bad.
It also is a very quick to lead to powercreep and situations where we as a dev team just keep "adjusting things for balance reasons" leading to a op item of the month.
3. We have our own decision-making process and there is a lot of disrespect towards the development team. Some people in this topic are quite insulting and should perhaps think a bit more before they post. (This is a general statement not about billy.)

Roger, i assumed that must of been the case after realizing the verbs in the plane were missing etc.Making a new verb is exactly what i did myself.Ive been gone for roughly a month so that explains why i havnt acknowledged it the couple rounds ive had recently, but i might just admin help and get the new verb as you suggest, cheers for that and thanks for restoring it.

I do have a few points to make regarding your 2nd point, but instead i actually would rather want to ask you this Awan, was the M39 rate of fire decreased within the last month?

Acknowledged about the zoom, cheers for that as well.Im fairly certain theres some railscope players out there that love you guys for getting it back finally.

The assblasting part,(not) sorry to say but you guys have called me toxic enough that i feel comfortable saying you should grow some balls in response to that.

The reason why im doing the elevator code is because im using it to emulate a aircraft carriers decks and also have the aircrafts still able to launch and go to another z level, had the idea for a while and its going well so far.

Ive seen the word nightmare a few times, but what exactly is it?

"Fuck it. Is it even worth it?" is exactly what normal players sometimes think as well.

If this is directed at me, the answer is its unlikely, but the simple fact is someone here atleast needs to be able to talk straight to these admins and tell them the hard facts and stick to their guns and not fall over every time they call you toxic or whether or not your apart of some "elite counsel" that "advises" the admins.Hammer down, and keep hammering.
The admins dont need more "elite buddies" that already hang around them on the discord advising them either, they just need people willing to speak their mind and take scrutiny when it comes.

Like i said ive been gone for a short break, but i mean are the townhall meetings getting the results you players want? Are you guys getting a good say in these things? Is anyone thats a normal player participating in these and are actually getting a chance to speak on a matter? You tell me, ive listened to just one "townhall" recording and im fairly certain i only heard the opinions and voices of the admins.

Am i wrong?

nightmare is an automatic thing that changes parts of the map on lv and will eventually be on all maps. It allows the maps to be kinda modular so they can make hosting events easier while making the maps quasi random to change the flow of the games and stuff.

I refrain from calling people toxic, especially in public. Some devs that people call "non-existent" on server technically cannot insult anyone since they are not here. I'm talking about JUST balancing in this case, and what I meant is any balance change right now may split the community.

Yes that was adressed to you.
You're currently wielding the voice of the angry side if CM population. If you claim you can code a bit then why not joining the dev team?
You would be a link between the staff, devs, and the plebs. And you could as an example finish little code-related tasks.

That would be a huge benefit to everyone in this community and requires just a bit of work from you.

So why not?

But from what I know having someone that has a different point of view and especially different project, can be a huge asset through brain storming. The fact he thinks different can be a strength as long as you guys talk as grown up adults with a slice of professionalism.

At least we're having a discussion with the dev team on that thread and that is in 3 years a huge improvement if I may say. (Well, improvement done over a couple of months now imo).

Now another question. Do you think a QaA thread with the dev team could be possible? As I believe it would heavily profit the whoke community from balance to feedbacks and open questions and other confusions.
As you're a large team and not much of a talkative one you must understands that the CM population would appreciate something like that. Or at least a continuous effort.

Cheers for reading.

This sounds like a good idea.

Just... people... no meme questions please like 'royal jelly when', etc.
Commander Joseph 'Goliath' Clancy, occaisonal Charlie SL. Widowed father of three. Sufferer of PTSD and extremely Australian.
Corpswoman Judith 'Mèrci' Clancy, quiet, caring daughter looking out for her siblings.
Warrant Officer Emile Clancy, Strict ex-police chief, now a tired CMP.
Xenomorph Queen 'Pandinus' ruler of the Alpha Hive. "I want more children!"
'R'ka Us'Tribi' Serpent Trapper, hateful predator.

You're welcome!

And Awan, your topic is great really. But we have the red changelogs already to know what's recently new.

The main topic is to favorize a more direct contact between the players and the devs to smoother confusion-related hate AKA Why do they balance like this? Why no tank? Why no QF EB? Why no stalk/run verb hotkey etc...

Anyway. Glad I could help with something positive for once! :)

You're currently wielding the voice of the angry side if CM population.
That would be a huge benefit to everyone in this community and requires just a bit of work from you.
So why not?
I wouldnt go as far to say "angry side" but i am trying to be "real" as much as possible, fairly certain thats why it wouldnt work and probably more accurately, something they dont want.Just being honest.
Even though im here to try help make this game even more kick ass with a wicked community like alot are.

Sorry...
We are closely knit team, we want people who join dev team to first think of us at least neutrally then it's cool
At least for me, not that I'm in charge.
I trust in BillyBoBBizWorth, as I trust in every member of the community. But I fear that people can't change in an instant from thinking we are not doing stuff to doing stuff with us.
I hope you and BillyBoBBizWorth understand
Hes right, its highly unlikely, i know i wouldnt be bias for their ideas/opinions and vice versa(usually a good thing in some cases), their team does appear to be improving so thats a good sign.Besides, i can get the same effect of change without being on their team, ive already shown that, and so can everyone else if its something you REALLY want done and truly believe its for the better, and finally, as long as its not something that will instantly fuck with the "balance" of multiple factors(could call them "silly" ideas i guess) that they got to spend heaps of time readjusting just to accommodate one change.

I suggested this to donut and its something that i know would help me contribute to a certain part of the forum is if there was a main thread for Update/Changes/Feedback, you name it, but you see it as soon as you enter this forum and not having to go into sub-threads to find information that for alot of players is important information, important information we want to discuss freely.Youve got two archived threads (suggestions/bugs) just sitting there, i truly suggest either reopening them if possible.Or just create another one which would be even better, something along them lines and just let people talk about it more freely and drop this secrecy charade(which to be fair, you mostly have), the code is out there and theres not much to really be all that secretive anymore to be frankly honest with you.

Spooky wanted nothing to do with ideas like this and dismissed them, but what will you do?

Anyhow..
Max Dallas has been hit in the chest by the M40 HEDP grenade.

I will murder you Brittany Breeze

"It was a fantastic round. If the CO hadn't cryo'ed before the end I'd have bothered him to give at least two more medals. To PFC Max Dallas, who kept doing the path between the frontlines to FOB (the only place with medical aid) with a roller bed, and saved a lot of marines who'd have husked otherwise. And to Dr. Haley Altman, who after all medics were gone was fixing us time and again for hours straight. At the end there were over 10 patients around her either dead or in crit, and she just kept going."
