Meta Rule regarding OB's and Alamo

Post by Boersgard » 26 Dec 2018, 21:49

This ruling - that you can't fire OB's at the alamo or landing zone - is dumb and it needs to go.

I am only seeing it cause constant issues IC. Situations where it makes total and complete sense to fire orbitals now have to be stopped by moderators because its "metagaming" while aliens now get metagame protections like nesting all their captures on the alamo knowing they can't get obliterated. To be honest I've never even seen OB's on the Alamo cause actual issues that would've prompted or warranted this ruling. The OB's themselves are so telegraphed you have to L I T E R A L L Y be AFK to die from it, and even IF you get hit, only the incendiary stands a chance of killing anything. Frankly if a bunch of dumb xenos die from it, they 1000% actually deserved it.

This ruling not only didn't solve any real problems, it's now causing them. I have yet to talk to a single person who thought this made sense or was a good idea.

This kind of exaggeration makes me ignore the rest of your post. Please quit doing it. Incendiary kills everything it hits that isnt immune to fire.

The rule should be removed soon. I'm fairly sure a mechanical measure is being added to prevent firing the orbital cannon at the dropship in some way.

The ruling was added because some XO blew up a dropship full of marines trying to fire the OB while the Alamo was taking off.

Holy shit that sounds more entertaining tbh, if it was accidental anyway. A shame such entertainment will leave us.

we'll have to wait and see how the mechanical restriction works.

Trust me, it wasn't fun to be CMO or doctor when all those dead marines on alamo arrived...

It does feel extremely forced and out-of-place, especially considering the Xenos are allowed to rush places like the Big Red medbay and destroy vendors before Marines can deploy.

Wish I was the doctor. Anything for a challenge.

Now that I think about it. My boink for this was over the so called 'Meta' that surrounds firing the OB on LZ1 when xeno's had captured it. It's apparently 'meta' due to the fact that the alamo capture is a forced event that xenos have to carry out and anything to interrupt this is detrimental to the xenos and the balance of the round. At this point I'm beginning to think that people are pulling rulings out of their arses at this point. Marines evacing then firing OBs has been a normal tactic for a long time and the telegraphing of such an attack is obvious now due to xenos complaining about the lack of it being telegraphed. During the PMs I had it was all decided in slack yet no real announcement was actually made regarding the rule, I avoided a note on the matter because next to no one in the player base actually knew about it until I lobbed a HE shell at LZ1 last night. The only reason we actually know about this new rule was OOC messages regarding that matter and then was told over OOC not to attempt to argue it as it was a settled matter.
Can I ask again, regarding the matter. 'What is the ruling?', 'When did this come about?' and 'What are the circumstances that lead to the rule being made?' Because I'm getting mixed messages at this point. It's either the XO managing to fuck up or a ruling of 'meta' against marines using the OB against xenos.

Edit: added a new question.

once blew up the FOB with a horribly placed OB beacon.
“Here is the wild Homo Sapien hunting its prey. The humanoids are pack hunters, using their shoddy armor as a pitiful defense against the towering Insecta. The human is quickly downed by the Insecta’s powerful slash. But, sheer numbers of humanoids rampage the abuser and Insecta is eventually burned to death, beaten, and dismembered.”

The best way for me to explain this is that a mechanical change is being put in place. It isn't that much of a secret that our endgame isn't in the best place. Someone brought up that there was a trend of people OBing the DS once it had been hijacked, and it was decided that this wasn't intended.

The ruling is only against OBing the dropship while Xenos are boarding it.

Also the ruling was made like two weeks ago ish.

Right understood. I just don't like mixed messages. Thankyou for the reply.
