On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? Atleast 48. At the very least. At most, 96. This is for a normal week.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? I was a moderator for cit, quit because I became disinterested. I was also staff for some servers on Garry's Mod when I played that, highest I've gotten was game admin. Didn't wanna go further.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? Yes, the Sulaco period where smartgun was a spec kit, etc.

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM? Bay, Corporate Mercenary, and Halo.

Provide links to any previous Colonial Marines applications that you've made: None. I do have an accepted specialist job-ban appeal though, but it's gone.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for? No.

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)? No, but I can become accustomed to it.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.

1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.

Inquire as to why the player shot that person, see if it might be a breach of rule 7. Check note history. If it's for a rather dumb/nondescript reason, warning for first time, temp. ban for repeat offence. If it's for an actual reason, leave it at that. IC issue.


2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result.

Block off the breach, teleport back in and Aheal. There shouldn't be a breach to space at any time. Investigate how it occurred and report it. If it's player-caused, then I'd warn them about it if no note history. If note history, temp. ban.


3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.

Keep an eye on him, if he's still lost for a while then I'd ask if he's new here. If he is, I'd give him some basic steps and direct him to the wiki and direct them to ahelp if they have any further questions.

4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.

I'd direct them to the forums to make a staff complaint if they aren't happy, and I'd notify a superior. I'd also oblige to their request and find an admin willing to talk to them. Warn them before they talk to an admin though that being excessively and continuously rude to staff is a bannable offense.


5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

I'd explain that we have the rule for a reason and I'd direct them to the rules page. I'd personally go along with them, but also explain why they can't do that. Lastly, I'd suggest some alternate names.


6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.

This is an IC issue so I'd leave it to the military police to deal with. Although it's wrong, it's a marine law and not a server rule about that.


7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

I got noted for this myself. I'd sympathize with him, share about my story. I would still explain though that medics are generally for triage and first-aid, and they don't really know how to do surgery. Note.


8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

I'd SM the commander, something about High Command telling them to make their advance. For the aliens, SM the queen about how they need to hijack the 'metal bird' and how they'll be replaced with another hive if they fall.

9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile IRON BEAR and the IRON BEAR Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.

Tell them that hostile antagonists are a special exception to EORG, so rule that it's an IC issue.


10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.

I'd tell them to ease up a bit and let the military police deal with this as it seems like an IC issue. Add note. If repeated behavior, apply a day ban.


11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

Clear lowRP and improper escalation. Check their notes, apply 3 hour ban for them to calm down. If repeated behavior, larger ban. Aheal the dead marine.


12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.

Notify an admin via Slack if none are on, or let an admin know if there's one in-game.

13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.

I'd let the person telling the comments that it's fine to make minor racist comments, but tell them that an anonymous player has taken offense and I'd ask that for this time, tone it down a bit.


14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.

Blatant griefing, 3 hour ban for first case scenario after checking notes. If it's repeat, larger ban and file for perma.


15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die.

PM, ask why they did that. Apply note and heavy warning, and if it's a case of repeat offense then xenoban.


16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat.

Apply note for lowRP, PM them to stop. If repeat, xenoban.


17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".

Explain to the former player that xenos don't know human terminology and that xenomorphs call rifles metal spitters, dropships metal birds, etc.


18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.

PM the player that nobody knows what's going on for the planet and that it's impossible to know that there are xenomorphs on the planet. Apply note for first time offense with warning, or command ban and 3 hour ban if they have similar note history.


19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.

Check for how they roleplayed it out and what the situation was. If there were xenomorphs coming, I suppose it would be a moment of panic/self-preservation but I'd still get a second opinion on it. If it was for something else, warning and note. Ban for repeat behavior if it's for a stupid reason.


20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.

Quietly inform them via PM, try to provide the correct information/protocol.

20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.

PM them to stop while also getting evidence. Send to headmin.


21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.

If this is more of a personal thing rather than protocol, let it slide. If they keep going though, ask them to stop. If they still continue, most likely a note and an hour ban.

Your answers are not quite up to standard, in my opinion. You have some gaps in rules and procedure knowledge. How you address the feedback provided in the thread may change my mind further down the line but I cannot support this at the moment.

I'd recommend taking a look at some accepted applications, make sure to read all the policy threads in announcements as well as protocols and rereading the rules.

I understand, thank you for your feedback. Is it too late to make changes so I could rectify these errors? I'd also like for it to be known that I will be seeking confirmation of any actions I take to enforce the rules if I'm accepted, so any errors I make can be fixed.

Also, for number 11. Depends on their inflection and how they've reacted.

You recieve an ahelp saying that the XO just randomly shot this marine, when you look into it his variables are a mess of names. 4 players have been attacked by the XO during the timeframe of the ahelp. Theres a dead CL and a dead MP at the hands of the XO.

What would your procedure be on finding out what happened.

What would your procedure be on finding out what happened.

Well, firstly I would freeze them to prevent any more deaths. I'd then look into their note history while asking them what they were doing and why they killed multiple people. Already this sounds like a case of grief so I'd also notify an admin about possibly banning them for 3 hours as the standard, but longer if they have a note history. I'd also put down a note about it. Lastly, after they're dealt with, I'd aheal anyone injured or dead from them. Hope this is satisfactory!

Maybe you can go look at other applications and see the parts that you are missing.

Alot of the earlier answers are fine, But some issues pointed out by other staff alongside the later answers seem a bit lacking is all. Really i don't see any problems with you applying in another month with a little more research done, The way i researched for my moderator application was asking the at the time senior moderator SLC97 a buncha questions until he was outright sick of me and then proceeding to scour the archives of the accepted applications. Ban appeals is a fun place to browse too if you need rule clarifications and a good laugh!
