Mitchs98 Trial Moderator/Mentor Application.

Post by Mitchs98 » 09 Oct 2015, 23:51

Byond ID: Mitchs98

Colonial Marines Character: Lucas 'Berserker' Anderson

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Timezone: CST.

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?

I'd say 20+

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?

I was staff on Cowed way back when for a month or two, and on Unbound Travels for over half a year, resigning when it died.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?

Yep, I was here pre-alpha.

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before?

Twice, both denied. The first due to reddit, the second due to much thought and deliberation due to the fact they needed more capable staff than myself right then and there.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?

Nope.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?

Nope.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.

I'd first check to see if any MP were en-route or already at the scene, if they were, I'd ask them to wait for a minute regardless of if they were there or not. As well as tell anyone involved to cease movement. I'd check the situation behind the marine firing their weapon, if it was a mis-fire or due to lag, I'd let them off with a warning to be more careful. If it was intentional and resulted in numerous dead/injured heavily, it'd be a more severe warning to a round ban. I'd also of course heal all those that got shot if they didn't want to handle the situation ICly, as well as let the MP carry on with what they were doing.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.

I'd inform those involved that breaching is no longer against the rules, and advise them to seal it if possible or advise the area. If it was bothering people too much, I'd see about getting it filled or ask the alien that is breaching, should they be able to seal it, seal it with resin and leave it at that.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.

I'd send a reply to them stating that they outnumbered the enemy greatly, and give a rough estimate of 1-10 aliens left alive. I'd also tell them to get their asses in gear and do what they were getting paid for, under threat of a court martial and summary execution should they decide to be further insubordinate. Keep things IC, ya know?

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.

I'd check the researchers notes and see if they had any past history of making illegal grenades, if not, give them a firm warning and tell them to read the rules. Because, it might not be an excuse, but some people actually haven't read them. If they show past history, a permanent job ban from researcher and a round ban. I'd then move to the marine, and ask him exactly why he did it. Lag happens, he could have pulled the pin and out of fear tossed the damned thing in a random direction. If it was found to be done for 'funsies' I'd summarily give him a 3 round ban after telling him such behaviour wasn't welcome on the server, I'd then heal all of those involved.

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.

I'd mute them, or talk with them. No point in banning someone over something so trivial unless they were being overly aggressive.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.

I'd direct them to our new naming rule, as it is semi-new they may or may not have read it yet. I'd then request a name to change it to, and ask they change it to the same next round.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

The same as above. I'd also tell them despite them having it for so long, it still applied to everyone.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.

I'd first warn the doctor that they aren't allowed to have a weapon, per the rules. I'd then warn them for not doing their job in favor of 1. Both breaking the rules for having a gun and 2. Shooting up aliens when he is quite clearly needed more urgently elsewhere.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

I'd first check to see if he had prior history breaking that rule or others like it, warn or ban him depending on history, and suggest next time to request a sulaco doctor to the FOB VIA his squad channel.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

I'd send out a announcement or some such stating there were only 1-8 targets left and around 30 marines registering on sensors and tell them to get their asses in gear, whoever killed the last alien gets a pay raise and a paid vacation.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.

Three hour ban, or higher, depending on prior history, as per the rules.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.

I'd ask their intentions as to why, if they were doing it just to troll or grief, I'd stick them with a warning. If they were doing it for IC tomfoolery and such, I'd tell them to not do it repeatedly and let them continue on their way. Who doesn't play tricks on friends/squaddies?

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

I'd tell them that wasn't a sensible reaction in the least to getting punched, unless the fight itself escalated from fists to knives properly via IC means. I'd also check his past history and go from there, depending on his notes and precisely what caused the death of the other marine.

Any additional information you'd like to add?

Your attitude honestly never changes and last time your previous APP was denied you reverted back to same old childish behavior.

Unfortunate, you know what you're doing and you've been around for awhile... but your attitude is just awful.

Cite how my attitude is just so god awful, I honestly don't see it. Are you referring to how Lucas is played? That's Lucas, if you're seriously judging me based on that then...honestly I don't know what to say. If you're referring to me being salty due to the stupidity of others or over dying in general, deadchat was made for a reason. Before it was updated on CM it literally said moan and whine. I don't cuss people out or anything of the sort, so I honestly don't see this 'childish and awful' behavior. If you're referring to the predator incident or your warning on me, I DO respect staff and their decisions and such, but I also respect myself enough to get my point of view across. I also understand it isn't a democracy, but there is a difference between it being a democracy and the player in question getting to give their say on a subject.

Now, I could see if I was being as toxic as humanly possible and cussing you out and outright disrespecting you while getting my point across, but I don't, and haven't. From what I've seen on some threads with staff posting, they've been a little less than friendly in their posts, some of them understandably so.

If you're going to start quoting my awful and childish behavior, please by all means post examples here and I'll comment on them. Otherwise, I'm honestly just not seeing it at this point. Lucas is a character, deadchat was made to vent, a very good portion of the player base uses it to do so as well.

And I also don't 'vent' nearly as much lately, I've learned to accept stupid shit can and will happen due to poor decisions of others on the server. That's just how things go.

Once again, cite my 'childish, toxic, and awful' behavior, by all means. I'm being 100% serious here, as I said before, I can't change if I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

+1 I like Mitch, think he's a great player and can only say good things when he staffed other servers. I got accepted with pretty much all -1s here, mainly because apop and rahl wanted to see that I changed, which i had. He's got prior experience and he's known [in good and bad ways] on the server. Trial moderator periods are meant to see how someone would actually act, so why not use it for it's purpose instead of an intermediary position with limited powers because time?

That is all.

Mitchs, you aren't objective, you get salty pretty quick and don't play enough the game.

You were my favourite mentor from UT, but I don't see you as mod on CM after that you proved yourself to not fit as moderator here.

What you're doing wrong is a general case of harassment on other users in character that exceeds the usual attitude of a person who has gone through the rigors and tests of marine training to be a somewhat diligent individual and it even goes on to border on how someone in OOC might speak. You're unnecessarily aggressive in multiple cases and most of your OOC posts are, believe it or not, not there, fail to make a positive contribution or simply avoid polite conversation outside of those you've meta-friended.

Your behavior, unlike my critical and condescending attitude and yet somewhat similar at concept, doesn't falter in situations and scenarios where it should and it makes you look like a rudeass. What you'll want to do, from troll to user, should go as follows:
  • - Design your character or make a new one to be less obnoxious and adamant on their correctness. It's not a fun experience for those in the game when a specialist main refuses to cooperate.

    - Avoid utilizing the many fathoms of information you've gathered to believe the marines are entirely incompetent. Many rounds I've witnessed or heard about your adventures ending in the loss of lives because you're too brave, and then you routinely shit on them for failure of duty.

    - Your OOC posting isn't of an enjoyable tier. I've rarely witnessed you contribute, but most of the time it's not really worth reading. If you want to apply for a role that helps the community, start appealing to the community. People enjoy having opinions, and making a bad one for yourself without understanding or having a way to utilize the repercussions doesn't amount to anything.

    - Your defense has flaws. What you provided to the accusing users is that you're 'reformed' but haven't provided evidence outside of your own word, which ironically, turns out as false when compared to your week's ingame chat history. There isn't much positive information to base your claims on, and really you've just baited people into checking in to see how rude you've been, and while I may have missed some interactions that perhaps look like they detail a proper conduct, I'm afraid my very active self has yet to notice it.
Of course, realistically, the people denying your application also consist of a marine whose IC behavior runs along the lines of aggressive and obnoxious and someone who I've rarely seen ever, but then it all rounds up to that your personality just isn't the one someone would typically enjoy seeking help with their problems with.

There's your problems list, good luck on your next application.

To prove my point that Lucas is just a character, I made Anya Allen, the completely polar opposite of Lucas. Have fun observing her, I plan on playing her instead of Lucas for quite a while.

Honestly, I don't really see him being all that bad in server. The answers are fine and generally follow what we'd probably do. The negative stigma of his past can't stick with him forever, I'd say +1 to being a trial at this point.

It's been a few weeks since his last application.

I'm one of the first people to consider giving people a second chance, which I DID in his second application. That blew up in my face with his awful attitude that has 0 relation to his character in-game. Numerous other staff have dealt with his negative and self-entitled attitude. Every-time we explain this to him he goes on about "not understanding" or "it's my characters attitude" only for him two seconds later ignore admin/mod orders in-game.

I don't think Mitch is a terrible person or he's incapable of changing. He's self-entitled which blocks his ability to comprehend situation's on the spot unless it's satisfies his view/logic.

I'm all for people changing and I believe it's possible, however no one changes within in a few weeks. What you do change however is how you hide that bad side of you enough to mask your true nature.

You're, once again, referring to instances spread far between each other and one general instance which was the incident about me as a predator. I also don't think I've been negative at all in PM's, nor have I ignored orders aside from that one point in time with the predator, in which I was trying to argue my side, which in the end I agreed that I was in the wrong.

Arguing ones side is not the same as self-entitlement, not in the least. I can also comprehend things just fine without it having to be all about me, thanks.

I'm going with +1
Anya is mai senpai ;~;
sorry but I really don't have much more to say than that...
wait no
+0.5 no nuke, plus how absolutely BORING it is 4v20 as either side, on the 4 side you don't have enough people to fight with, on the other side you don't have any kind of thermals to assist you finding them...

Final Verdict
+0.5

-1 from me. I was looking through the archives on my lunch break and found a complaint against Pink by him where no protocols were broken and he was outright disrespectful about it. I like second chances and people can certainly change, however I don't think that this disrespectful attitude towards authority can change in only two weeks. Someone so defensive shouldn't be in a position of power in my opinion.

viewtopic.php?f=71&t=4006&p=38956#p38956 - Found it just for everyone to see. Keep in mind this happened sept 25, 2015 which I constitute as recent.

I may not really have a word as I am not nearly as "experienced" or whatever, but I do like to read ban appeals and other mod applications and stuff.

viewtopic.php?f=68&t=3545 - This may change your position for either side.

Personally -1 from I've seen a lot of salt and I don't like salty people even though I can be at times. I know maybe giving chances are good maybe it's not; however, if you're hot headed and have issues with temper, a place in power wouldn't be the best of positions. You can say you've changed yes, but I'm one of the people that doesn't believe you waver far from who you are. You can try to change you can succeed to a point, but something will set you off and you can just as easily fall back to old habits.

But of course it's just my opinion.

I was going to stay netural on this, but seeing some of the stuff posted and seeing you in round a bit, going to be a -1 from me. I don't like to say no to someone and give them a chance, but staff need to be people that keep a cool head and people who show the example of behavior for the server.

You tried to stir up trouble with Crusher 624 on 8:15 PM Central Time Zone complaining you died whilst infected over LOOC instead of just adminhelping it. I'vand joined to conversation to try to calm you down, you've said "I am calm" and continued on ranting. You even made the Crusher 624 feel bad about himself, Westhybrid, Blackdragon, and Feweh was present when I informed to them. That's not how a future staff would act. Sorry, I don't think you're truly cut out for this kind of job.
