Kyrac - Moderator Application

Post by Kyrac » 05 Apr 2016, 16:59

Byond ID: Kyrac

Colonial Marines Character: Marcus Ranchers

Age: 17, soon to be 18.

Gender: Male

Timezone: Mountain Standard Time

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?: About 20 hours.

Do you have a Skype account (Skype is REQUIRED)?: Yes.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?: Done it a long time while I was here, and done a lot on Gmod Serious RP.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?: Yeah, I remember when the Commander was a Green suit, and before the Alpha came out.

What other servers do you play on?: Archangel, and not many others like I used to.

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?: Don't play on any others really.

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before?: Yes, twice and I was accepted for both.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where: Running an Arma 3 Unit on weekends, and hosting a teamspeak server.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?: Nope.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)?: Early last year on Yog, I tossed a bomb at Security. Never went off fortunately, was permanently banned. I don't plan on ever doing that again, it was a bad move.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
There's nothing about anyone taking damage, although I'd check to make sure in his Vars that he'd not done damage to anyone. I'd warn him via PM to stop discharging his weapon and note where applicable.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
Ask an Admin to seal it, and if someone intentionally opened it, PM and note.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
I'd let them know that according to the scanners, they're more than capable of disposing of the threat.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
I'm pretty sure we can't even use Napalm grenades anymore due to badmos if I remember correctly, unless that was pre-alpha. But the researcher shouldn't be making napalm grenades, I'd message them and remind them it's harmful to atmos and not necessary. I'd then hit up the Marine, PM him, note him and then ban him for about a day.

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
He's toying with Ahelp and I'd mark it as unnecessary since I know you guys got that. If it was really consistent, I'd mute him from Ahelp for the duration of the round.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
PM him and ensure that he changes it, or I'll change it for him with Vars, although I don't believe Moderator has var perms so I'd ask an Admin if I was unable to do it.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
Ignorance is unacceptable, they'll change it come hell or high-water.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
Breaks weapon rules, I'd PM them, note them and make sure they set it down.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
Breaks job rules, it's either they stop or damage is done to the patient due to their ignorance. PM and note.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
Moderators aren't even meant to get involved with that stuff, and I'd probably just ask an Admin for consultation of what to do since I'm not in the place to do it myself.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
End of round grief, halt round startEDIT:end (My bad), note, and 3 hour ban.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
Not necessarily grief, but it's unnecessary, PM and note.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
Still, not justified to kill another Marine. I'd pm him, note him, check vars on how much damage the other marine actually did, then apply bans where necessary of at most a day.

Any additional information you'd like to add?:
Passing my classes, pretty satisfied and I feel capable again. Had my time off long enough and I think it's time to hop back into it.

Nothing personal and I've never had a issue with you at all so don't take this in a offensive way.

Just you've done this 3 times now? You come back, are active for about a week then just trickle along for a few months and end up "retiring" once we've all forgotten about you. It's kind of become a rinse and repeat thing of you, something always seems to come up and you disappear. Exactly how we treat all other applicants, you need to show a presence in-game and activity before applying or in your case re-applying.
We've added A LOT of Mods recently and have a few capable applications up currently so we aren't in dire need of moderation really (in my opinion). I just feel like you should actually play the game a bit before applying and if you're still around in a months time apply again.

I'm not going to give you a +1 or -1 because it's kind of silly, we all know you can Mod... I just personally think you need to actually play CM and stop coming back to apply for staff only to disappear 1 month later. I'd just see more opportunity in giving other applicants a chance instead given your history to disappear constantly from CM.

9. -- The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

Had you been active in-game recently, you'd know that Moderators have access to MOTHER announcements to push rounds a long if they get stuck in a stalemate. MOTHER was introduced specifically for situations like these to help lower-staff communicate basic issues to the Marines.

Anyways;
By all means, if you're active and around after some time I'd for sure be cool with you returning. Just seems silly to allow history to repeat itself so many times, especially when we aren't in dire need moderation.

I know I haven't been reliable with the duty in the past, and I can't promise that the same thing won't happen again. It's also a matter of motivation, although I'd like to give it another run.

Other applicants are definitely more promising, but the content to me on this server feels like it's getting dated. I appreciate it in all of it's glory, but sometimes I have new cravings. I literally set Space Station 13 as a game down for a few months because I play it religiously for a time.

I'd just... Like to give it another shot Feweh, and I'm sorry for my lack of reliability.

If the case is that there's an influx of Moderators, I'll hold off on this.

well i can tell you that I'ts a matter of discipline, if you rely on motivation to get things done you'll probably end leaving the server again when you get bored just like feweh said in his post.

I do the job in fun and in voluntary work, and it does take me motivation to want to pickup SS13 sometimes. The game is an off-and-on thing with me, like I'll play it a lot for a period of time and get sick of it. Whenever I actually moderated, I basically observed and did my job from there. It's really not difficult, and I can more than likely still do it, but not as a Marine on the field.

But y'know what, I suppose I'll just retract this application. Some others think I should as well.

I've been told that I've spread myself too thin and I got too much going on in games, which is true. But I did want to come back and do this.

I'll hold off for a while til I feel like I've become more prominent on the server, and in SS13.

As I said, for yourself especially... play the game for a bit then apply.

You might realize you arent that motivated yourself after a couple of weeks.

Feweh is kind of right on this one Kyrac. You've came back like 3 times and each time it's the same outcome I'm just not sure if you're really suited towards the moderation job.

I'm going to say Denied for now. Sort of what Feweh says. Your active, then you disappear with no warning or with a retirement. While we are looking for volunteers, we need volunteers who are willing to commit a bit more.
